It then stood on Belle Isle for more than a century before The Henry Ford acquired, dismantled and stored the structure in 2003. Join Curator of Historic Structures and Landscapes Jim Johnson and Curator of Agriculture and the Environment Debra Reid as they share photographs, historic publications and research findings on the market.

Traditional FallCOOKING DEMONSTRATIONSSEPTEMBER 28-29 & OCTOBER 5-6Each home is harvest-inspired, so pop in and see what’s cooking!Demonstrations run from 9:30-4:30.

Firestone Farm – Columbiana County, Ohio, c. 1885. Coal stove cooking and baking with Midwestern recipes and a Pennsylvania German influence. Recipes include: sauerkraut, apple butter, boiled cod with caper sauce, Dutch red wine cabbage and apple custard.

Ford Home – Dearborn, Michigan, c. 1876. Wood-fired stove cooking and baking with recipes inspired by Michigan’s fall harvest. Recipes include: roast pork, summer squash a la fried oysters, soda biscuits and apple dowdy.

Mattox Family Home – Bryan County, Georgia, c. 1930. Cooking and baking on a wood stove using African-American recipes based on the Mattox family’s oral histories and local/regional foodways and cookbooks. Recipes include: oxtails, crackling bread, fried apples and bacon, and peach cobbler.

Edison Homestead – Vienna, Ontario, Canada, c. 1915. Coal stove cooking and baking with recipes influenced by sweeping changes in culture and technology of the early 20th century. Recipes include: ham cooked in beer, spinach croquettes, white grape salad and Woodford pudding.

Susquehanna Plantation – Tidewater Maryland, c. 1860. Hearth cooking and baking with Southern-inspired antebellum recipes. Recipes include: meat puffs, ochra, dressed macaroni and carolas.

Daggett Farmhouse – Coventry, Connecticut, c. 1760. Hearth cooking and baking based on a variety of Colonial-era English and American cookbooks. Recipes include: cabbage pudding, hashed mutton, fried celery and snowballs.

Giddings Family Home – Exeter, New Hampshire, c. 1760. Hearth cooking and baking in an urban 18th-century setting. Recipes include: sweet meatballs, kickshaws, pink-coloured pancakes and milk chocolate.

McGuffey Birthplace – Washington County, Pennsylvania, c. 1800. Open-hearth cooking and food preservation on the early 19th-century frontier. Recipe include: roast rabbit, stewed pears, oat cakes and Tunbridge pudding.
