Waitlists Students may be placed on a waitlist if a course is full. When a seat becomes available the student will be sent an email (using MyWestern or a personal email address) notifying them that a seat has become available. The student will typically have three days to add the course to their schedule through “Managing My Waitlist” in MyWestern or by calling Mustang Central. The waitlist add period will be shortened as the start of courses gets closer. Check your MyWestern email frequently. It is ultimately the responsibility of the student to know their position on any given waitlist. Being on a waitlist does not complete the registration process. Students are not automatically enrolled when a seat opens. If you have decided against the waitlisted course, please have your name deleted from the waitlist by using “Managing My Waitlist” in MyWestern or by calling Mustang Central at 382-1677.

Dropping Classes Students must officially drop courses, via MyWestern or Mustang Central, to avoid failing grades and/or responsibility for paying tuition and fees. It is the student’s responsibility to be familiar with the deadline dates. Please reference the drop deadlines (which vary by course duration) on the academic calendar. Refunds will only be effective after a drop of the course is completed. Contact Mustang Central or the Green River Center for more information.

High School Students Western offers tuition scholarships for qualified high school students. Sweetwater County BOCES pays for up to 10 credit hours in the Fall and Spring terms, and 3 credit hours in the Summer term, plus course fees, for approved high school juniors and seniors taking dual enrollment courses. Contact your high school counselor or Mustang Central with questions.

Individual Advising Appointments(for our NEW degree seeking students)

After you complete the application process, you will be sent a username and password. Once you receive it, contact Mustang Success at 307.382.1660 to schedule an Individual Advising appointment.

Advising and Registration appointments for our NEW degree seeking students, including dual and concurrent high school seniors who will graduate Spring 2020, are available starting Monday, April 13.

A student previously classified as a nonresident may be reclassified any time prior to the end of the published refund period of any term in which he/she qualifies.A student who is classified as a resident by one community college will be considered a resident at all colleges.

Students are responsible for adhering to all college regulations.Refer to the Catalog or Mustang Central for information on:

• Dropping classes• Withdrawing from college• Class attendance• Grades• Services for students with disabilities• Student conduct issues• Honor rolls• Graduation• Student’s Rights to Privacy

Wyoming Community College Residency Guidelines

STUDENT CLASSIFICATION FOR WYOMING RESIDENT TUITION PURPOSES

Residence classification shall be initiated for each student at the time the application for admission is accepted. Students may request a review whenever they have not been in attendance for at least one semester.

Individuals who qualify as Wyoming Residents shall pay the in-state tuition rate, as established by the Wyoming Community College Commission. All other individuals shall pay the out-of-state or Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition rates, as established by the Wyoming Community College Commission. For the purposes of determining whether a student qualifies for in-state or out of state tuition, the following guidelines apply:

A. Residing in Wyoming primarily as a student will not support a claim for resident status. The following students are considered Wyoming residents:

1. Individuals who are financial dependents or under the age of 24 with a parent, guardian or spouse who has lived in the State of Wyoming for 6 continuous months.

2. Graduates of a Wyoming high school. 3. Recipients of a high school equivalency in Wyoming who also

qualify for a Hathaway Scholarship.4. Active Wyoming National Guard members and U.S. Armed Forces

members stationed in Wyoming, and their dependents. 5. Wyoming residents temporarily absent from the State due to

military service, attendance at an educational institution, or other type of documented temporary absence.

6. Individuals who have been awarded resident tuition status at another Wyoming Community College or the University of Wyoming.

7. The spouse or financial dependent of an individual who is determined to be a Wyoming resident pursuant to these Guidelines.

8. A legal dependent under the age of 24 of a Wyoming community college graduate may be classified as a Wyoming resident for tuition purposes at any Wyoming community college.

9. Individuals with a permanent home in Wyoming. To determine if a permanent Wyoming home has been established, a variety of factors are considered. See full policy or Registrar for details.

10. An applicant for resident tuition who is a veteran or eligible individual, if the applicant enrolls at one of the Wyoming community colleges within three (3) years of his/her discharge and provides required evidence or documentation. See full policy or Registrar for details.

B. The following students are considered non-residents:

1. Individuals who do not qualify under Section A above; and 2. Individuals who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents

except as provided by Section A.2 or A.3 above. 3. Individuals holding a valid Nonimmigrant status in the following

categories: F-1 and F2, H-3 and H-4, J-1, K-1, and J-2, M-1 and M-2, Q-1, and R-2 visas except as provided by Section A.2 or A.3 above.

Students may appeal their classification as a resident or a non-resident by submitting an Application for Residency Reclassification to the Registrar. The student must submit the request and accompanying documentation on or before the first day of classes. A decision will be rendered within 20 days of the first day of classes. See full policy or Registrar for details. The Vice President of Student Services administers these Guidelines for each community college. Any questions or concerns about the residency policy should be addressed to the Registrar in Mustang Central.

FINANCIAL AIDGetting Financial Assistance Students enrolled in a minimum of six credits at Western Wyoming Community College are encouraged to apply for financial aid. Some students enrolled in less than 6 hours may also be eligible for financial aid. There are generally two types of aid available at Western: aid based on assessed financial need and aid awarded based on academic excellence or area of major. Students interested in Federal Aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications can be accessed from the Western Financial Aid webpage. Before financial aid awards are disbursed, students must have applied and been accepted for admission, and be degree or certificate seeking at Western. April 1 is the priority deadline for financial aid at Western. Applications received by this date will receive priority consideration for all available monies. Applications received after that date will be processed as the financial aid file is completed.

FAFSA Websitewww.fafsa.gov

MyWestern Capabilities: Students can access a variety of financial aid information via MyWestern.

• Students can view their award letter for the current academic year once their financial aid file is complete and the financial aid office has reviewed their eligibility and packaged their awards.

• Students can also accept or decline the aid that has been offered to them utilizing this medium.

• Students can print out their award letter.• Review My Finacial Aid will direct students to the Master Promissory Note (Legal promise to repay Student Loans borrowed).

• Students can view their financial aid status by year or specific term.

This information is accessed by using your MyWestern login and password.

Financial Aid Awards usually consist of a combination of the following:

Federal Aid Programs: Federal Pell Grant – Federal Grant money available to qualifying students attending approved post-secondary institutions. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) - Federal grants available to students with the lowest family contribution. Federal Work Study – Student employment available to a limited number of students with need who choose to earn part of their educational expenses.

Federal Direct Loans: Subsidized Loans – Need-based federally subsidized loans available to college students which are funded by the Federal Direct Loan Program. Interest rate information is available online at westernwyoming.edu. Repayment obligations begin six months after the student completes their education or stops attending at least on a half time basis. Student Loan interest does not accrue while the student is actively taking classes. Entrance and exit counseling is required in order to receive these funds. Unsubsidized Loans – Federal loans available to college students which are funded by the Federal Direct Loan Program. Entrance and exit counseling is required in order to receive these funds. Interest begins to accrue upon disbursement. Interest rate information is available online at westernwyoming.edu. Federal PLUS Loans – Federal loans available to parents whose children attend post-secondary institutions. Interest rate information is available online at westernwyoming.edu. Repayment begins 60 days after the last loan disbursement.

The Sweetwater County High School Graduate Scholarship is available for students who graduate from a Sweetwater County High School. Divisional Scholarships are available to sophomore students. Scholarships are also available to qualifying transfer, part-time and non-traditional students.

WWC Foundation Aid: Grants provided through donor participation, ranging in value from $250-$3,500 per academic year.

Veteran’s Benefits: Information and applications can be obtained from the Veteran's Representative in Mustang Central, and online on the College's webpage.

EPLACEMENT TESTING

All students who do not have current ACT/SAT score, or meet the score requirement to be placed in a course will be required to complete Placement Testing in order to confirm they meet course prerequisites, or have completed the prerequisite college-level course achieving an A, B, or C grade. The tests are designed to determine the student’s level of ability - they are not pass/fail exams. The College’s aim is to place the student in the course best suited to meet their particular skills. In some cases, developmental courses are required before students enter college-level courses. Tests are offered at various times; scores are valid for three years.
