1. GENERAL ADMISSIONS OUTLINE FOR FALL 2015

PROCESS DATES AND DETAILS

1 APPLICATION

(ONLINE)

April 27, 2015, at 9 a.m. – May 8, 2015, at 5 p.m.

▪ All prospective students should apply online. The link to on-line application is www.jinhakapply.com

(JINHAK APPLY), and the step-by-step application guide will be provided on the website of KU

Graduate School (http://grad.konkuk.ac.kr).

2 APPLICANT’S E-MAIL VERIFICATION

(IMPORTANT)

May 8, 2015, at 6 p.m. and onwards

▪ Once you complete the online application, we will send a verification message to the applicant’s e-

mail in the application system.

▪ If you DO NOT receive an e-mail from us, please send your correct e-mail address to

[email protected]. (If you received the verification e-mail, you do not have to e-mail us.)

3 APPLICATION MATERIALS

(DOCUMENTS) SUBMISSION

April 27, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. – May 12, 2015, at 5 p.m.

▪ After completing the online application, all applicants should submit the required documents along

with a hard copy of the application (i.e., printout) to the Administrative Office of the Graduate School.

▪ You may submit the documents to the office in person or via postal services

▪ Only for short documents, we will give the chance to make supplementation by no later than May

22, 2015, at 5 p.m.. (However, all other documents should arrive before May 12, 2015, at 5 p.m.)

4 DOCUMENTS REVIEW

▪ All departments will assess the applicants based on their submitted documents and select

accordingly.

▪ Some programs, such as art-related majors, may require an additional interview and/or a

performance assessment.

5 INTERVIEWS AND

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

May 30, 2015, starting at 10 a.m.

▪ Applicants of physical education, art, and music programs should attend an interview and/or

performance assessment on May 30, 2015.

▪ These programs will require you to bring additional materials or portfolios on the day of the

interview and performance assessment.

▪ Please refer to the KU Graduate School website for further details.

6 ANNOUNCEMENT OF

ADMITTED STUDENTS

June 17, 2015, at 4 p.m.

▪ A list of admitted students will be announced online on the KU Graduate School website.

▪ Please note that individual notifications will not be made.

7 REGISTRATION

Full Tuition Payment Period: June 29, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. – July 3, 2015, at 4 p.m.

▪ Make partial tuition payment (\300,000) as a deposit, through Shinhan Bank (Korea)

▪ Basically, overseas remittance is not possible, but it may be possible for certain Shinhan Bank

branches overseas. Please consult with the branch near you to find out if this option is available.

8 ADMISSON LETTER

DISTRIBUTION

July 13, 2015 (the arrival date may vary depending on the applicant’s residence)

▪ Admission Letter will be distributed by the KU Graduate School Administration Office.

▪ For applicants residing overseas(including China), the Admission Letter will be sent via DHL.

9 ON-CAMPUS HOUSING

10 COURSE REGISTRATION ▪ Course registration will start from mid-August (Detailed schedule will be uploaded on the Website.)

11 ENTRANCE REPORT

(For students arriving in Korea from foreign countries)

▪ Once you arrive in Korea, please visit the Graduate School Administration Office within one week to

report your entrance.

12 DOCUMENT SUPPLEMENTATION

(For Graduate-to-be)

until Aug. 28, 2015

▪ If you are an admitted student who was a graduate-to-be at the application stage, you should

submit your “notarized” final transcript & final certificate of degree which has been officially

“certified” by the Korean Consul or “apostilled.” (At the latest, you may bring it to the Orientation

Session.)

2. QUOTA & ELIGIBILITY

QUOTA

▶ A limited number of students are admitted to each department and program.

ELIGIBILITY

NATIONALITY

▪ The applicant must meet one of the following nationality requirements.

- A foreign national whose parents are both foreign nationals

- A person who has completed all levels of education equivalent to elementary,

junior high, high school, and undergraduate school in a foreign country

LANGUAGE

PROFICIENCY

▪ The applicant must meet one of the following language proficiency requirements.

- TOPIK (Korean language proficiency test) Level 3 or higher

- A certain level of official test of English language proficiency (required)

(Minimum of TOEFL PBT 550, CBT 210, iBT 80 / IELTS 5.5 / TEPS 550)

* Students admitted with S-TOPIK Level 3 need to supplement with S-TOPIK Level 4 or above one

semester before the final (graduating) semester.

* If the student can speak only English and no Korean, he/she must consult with the department before

the application is processed to see whether the department will accept the application or not.

EXCEPTIONS

▪ The Department of Korean Language & Literature recommends applicants to submit

TOPIK level 5 or higher in order to successfully complete the program.

▪ In case applicant does not hold language certificate (applicable to all divisions):

with the study permit and recommendation by a KU professor of the respective

department or program, the applicant can be exempted from the language proficiency

abovementioned requirement for a certain period at the entrance stage.

(KUGRD-P5 standard form should be filled out, signed by KU Professor & Head Professor)

▪ With the study permit and a KU professor’s recommendation, an applicant can apply for and become a

successful candidate for Fall 2015 KU Graduate School Admissions. However, please note that without a

regular English proficiency test result, foreign student scholarship may not be granted during the first

semester.

* Students admitted with study permit and recommendation need to supplement with S-TOPIK level 4

or higher or an acceptable English language proficiency test score abovementioned one semester

before the start of the graduating (final) semester.

▶ Every department selects students by thoroughly reviewing the application documents submitted by each

applicant. In case of arts and physical education, an additional interview and/or a performance assessment will

take place.

5. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS - PRECAUTIONS

NOTARIZATION & LEGALIZATION

▶ Every required original document should be issued in Korean or English, and all documents issued in a language other than Korean or English should be translated and certified (notarized) before submission.

▶ Academic Degree Certificate needs to be officially “certified” by the Korean Consul and should be sealed by the Korean Embassy (Consulate General) or “apostilled” in ‘the country where the graduated university is located. Students of Chinese universities should submit a “Credential Report” (www.cdgdc.edu.cn) instead of the confirmed documents from the Korean Consul. (As for the academic transcript, it should be “notarized,” even if it is written in English.)

▶ For more detailed information on apostille application procedures and its requirements, please refer to the HCCH website’s “Apostille Section” (http://www.hcch.net/index_en.php?act=text.display&tid=37).

APPLICANT EXPECTED TO GRADUATE

▶ An applicant who is expected to graduate between July and August 2015 should send a certified (Notarized) copy of expected graduation certificate and a copy of academic transcript issued at the time of application.

▶ After the admission decision has been made, a student admitted with expected graduation certificate needs to supplement his/her final graduation certificate (apostilled or Korean consul certified) and a final academic transcript (notarized) to the Graduate School Administration Office by Aug. 28, 2015, which is before the new semester starts, or admission will be revoked.

▶ If the documents are not issued in Korean or English, translation and notarization should be obtained and submitted thereafter.

▶ Please be noted that failing to comply with the supplementation of such documents within the given timeframe will result in the cancellation of admission of the respective candidate.

▶ After successfully completing the online application, every applicant should submit all required documents to the Graduate School Administration Office on time, within the scheduled deadline. The documents can via postal services (e.g., DHL, UPS, FEDEX, or EMS). It is also acceptable to hand in the documents in person to the admissions officer at the Graduate School Administration Office.

7. IMPORTANT REMINDERS

APPLICATION RELATED

▶ The applicant should register, apply, make necessary payments online at the application webpage before

the deadline. After the deadline, it is not possible to modify application information, cancel application, nor

receive refund for fees paid.

▶ After applying online, the applicant should submit the required documents to the Graduate School

Administration Office within the given timeline. Failing to comply with given dates will result in exclusion from

the admissions process.

▶ All information on application materials such as telephone number, e-mail address, etc., must be written

accurately and fully, and the applicant is solely responsible for any disadvantages resulting from incorrect

information.

ADMISSIONS-RELATED NOTES

▶ All arts and physical division applicants need to take an interview and/or performance assessment; thus, it

is necessary to check the details through the Graduate School website.

▶ If an interview and/or performance assessment are/is scheduled, the applicant must arrive at the

announced waiting spot 10 mins before the designated interview and/or performance assessment schedules.

Also, the applicant must bring his/her ID (passport or alien registration card) and portfolios and/or other

documents stated on p. 8 for the interview and/or performance assessment.

▶ For all other division (department) applicants, an additional phone interview can take place and depending

on the department.

ENROLLMENT AND CANCELLATION OF ENROLLMENT

▶ If any required documents are found to be false or counterfeit, admission to Konkuk University Graduate

School will be revoked.

▶ If an admitted student is found unqualified and does not meet the basic academic eligibility for application

(e.g., graduated from non-accredited university), admission will also be revoked.

WITHDRAWING FROM REGISTRATION

▶ If an admitted student wants to withdraw from registration, the student needs to fill out a form named

『Tuition Refund Request Form』 and submit to the Graduate School Administration Office by no later than

Aug. 21, 2015, to get a full refund.

SOJOURN-RELATED MATTERS

▶ Every student staying in Korea for 90 days or more for study abroad purposes must report to the nearby

local immigration office and get registered for the issuance of 『Alien Registration Card』.

GRADUATION-RELATED MATTERS

▶ Every admitted student needs to acquire and submit the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) level 4 or

higher, or a certain level of regular English proficiency test result to the Graduate School Administration

Office for graduation.

VISA ISSUANCE

▶ After registration, all new students should take the necessary steps to apply for visa issuance, ASAP (as

soon as possible).

▶ All visa issuance-related matters are dealt in accordance with the ROK immigration policy. Please note

that in case the immigration office refuses to issue a visa to an admitted student, KU Graduate School

cannot accept him/her.

For New VISA Issuance

(Overseas Residence)

1. The Graduate School Administration Office verifies the registration of each student and takes the

required steps for VISA issuance.

2. After registration is complete with full tuition payment, the Graduate School Administration Office

issues and sends the “Certificate of Admission” via postal service to registered students in all

foreign countries (including China) on July 13, 2015.

3. Admitted students should apply for ROK VISA 『D-2』in the Korean Embassy or Consulate in their

country.

For VISA Status

Alteration

(From D-4 to D-2)

1. After registration is complete with full tuition payment, an admitted student should visit the

Graduate School Administration Office to obtain the Certificate of Admission starting from July 13,

2015.

2. For VISA extension, the student is required to visit the immigration office with the Certificate of

Admission.

3. In case of D-4 students, please note that the Certificate of Admission can be issued after June 30,

2015 (only available to registered students, if necessary). The 2015 fall semester begins on Aug. 31,

2015, thus, your current D-4 VISA should be in effect considering the time given for altering D-4 to D-

2.

PURCHASING HEALTH INSURANCE

▶ According to the regulations of the Korean Ministry of Education, all international students are required to

purchase health insurance. If you do not follow this regulation, you will get a penalty.

▶ You will be notified of detailed information on insurance via e-mail at the end of August 2015. You can

purchase insurance at the Orientation Session held on Aug. 28, 2015; thus, please prepare the cash amount

(\130,000~\140,000/1year) for purchasing insurance.

▶ If you already have insurance, please bring a copy of the insurance policy to the Orientation Session.

OTHERS

▶ You CANNOT apply for a Leave of Absence during the first semester. (However, Leave of Absence due to

Sickness is possible.)

▶ You CANNOT change your “Department” after enrollment.
