What is a community school?A community school takes one of the largest and most under utilized public facilities, the public school, and increases the investment by mak-ing it open to the public on evenings, weekends, and during the holiday months for community activities.

The community school provides a vehicle for the participation of neigh-borhood residents (including those without children in the school sys-tem) in the activities and efforts of their neighborhood school. The West Abbotsford Community School Society, a non-profit and charitable organization, was founded in 1996. In 2009, the society expanded to include seven more west side schools. WACSS includes Bondar, Clear-brook, John Maclure, Ten-Broeck, Terry Fox, Howe, Chief Dan George, and Mouat schools.
