Dear Sisters, What an amazing 2013-2014 the Los Angeles Area

Alumnae Chapter has experienced! In one year, we

participated in 2 recolonizations, 2 re-installation ban-

quets, 2 senior rededications, assisted with 2 chapter

house remodels and 2 chapter house grand re-

openings, attended multiple initiations and alumnae/

collegiate events, participated in planning the largest

Los Angeles/Orange County IRD ever, attended Inter-

national Convention 2014, witnessed our Delta Alpha

and Delta Epsilon chapter banners being carried by

collegians in the opening ceremonies for the very first

time, received 2 awards at International Convention,

and have now supported 2 very successful 2014 formal

Fall recruitments, one at USC and one at UCLA. Most

of these events were in addition to the Alumnae Chap-

ters’ other scheduled alumnae events, such as the Fall

Tailgate, JDRF Walk, Gingerbread Tea, House of Ruth,

Junior Circle events, Officer Installation, Poker Night,

Del Mar Horse Races and Lighting of the Tapers/

Memorial Service. All of the above events and activities have taken your

time, support, commitment, and dedication. In recog-

nition of your commitment and dedication to Alpha

Gamma Delta, the Alumnae Chapter received an

award at the International Convention 2014 for

From the Foundation

From the Foundation — Being There for One Another

July’s International Convention in Indianapolis was a great reminder of all the things that make Alpha Gamma Delta such

an amazing organization:

We are multi-generational – encouraging women of all generations to come together as sisters and work for the better-

ment of women

We are global – alumnae from all over the world coming together to share perspectives and insight

We are progressive – taking the lead on women’s education and advocacy

We are there for one another!

The Foundation takes great pride in supporting the values,

goals and philanthropic work of Alpha Gamma Delta. With the

help of our alumnae, during the past year, we were able to

award more than $581,000 in scholarships, grants, philan-

thropic support, leadership training and educational program-

ming, all examples of Alpha Gams being there for one another

in so many powerful ways.

The need we see in our scholarship, SIS grant and Diabetes Education & Awareness grant applications increases every year. We hope you’ll join us in being there for our sisters this year. For more information or to make a donation please visit www.alphagammadeltafoundation.org.

Indianapolis, Indiana was the setting for

the 2014 International Convention. A

large contingent from the Southern

California area was in attendance, in-

cluding collegiate members from our

newly reinstalled chapters. One of the

highlights of Convention was the

chance to visit our new International

Headquarters building and see the

amazing archives room and see the

Emily Butterfield gallery. There were many opportunities to meet with sisters

from other chapters to exchange ideas, meet with International Officers and VST

team members to work through issues, and to learn and be inspired through

guest speakers and presentations. The LAAAC, Orange County Junior Circle, and

the Palm Springs Club all received recognition for their achievements over the

last biennium. We cheered with pride as Delta Alpha Teri McKeever was recog-

nized as a Distinguished Citizen. Initiation at Convention is always a special time

to reconnect with our ritual as three women were welcomed into our sister-

hood. We celebrated as many of our local alumnae were recognized for their

service with Honors of Epsilon Pi. On the last day of Convention, our newly in-

stalled President Rie Gerah Hoehner challenged us all to look “Onward and Up-

ward” as we go through the next biennium before meeting again in Orlando, Flor-

ida for Convention 2016.

Teri was named the head coach of the U.S. women's team for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in December of 2010. Regarded as one of the best swimming mentors in

the United States, Teri completed her 22nd year as head coach of the University of California's

women's swimming and diving program in 2013-14. In addition to her other historical mile-

stones, Teri is above all proud to have helped guide Natalie Coughlin to 11 Olympic medals,

including three gold, and the entire U.S. swimming team to 28 medals, including 12 gold.

The Distinguished Citizen Award was established in 1959 to recognize alumnae members of

the Fraternity for outstanding professional and community achievement. This award is present-

ed to women who are outstanding in their professions or in civic, organizational, cultural or charitable work in ways that demonstrate the

Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose.

Prior to making her mark on Cal women's swimming, Teri had strong ties to the Pac-10 Conference, both as an athlete and as a coach. A

former USC All-American herself, she competed in the NCAA Championships meet all four years while at USC and helped the Trojans to

four consecutive NCAA top-10 finishes. She earned All-America honors in both 1980 and 1981. As a senior in 1983, Teri was named USC's

Outstanding Student-Athlete. She worked as an assistant coach at USC from 1984-87, helping develop several All-Americans.

Teri graduated from USC in 1983 with a B.S. in Education with two teaching credentials (multiple subject, secondary life science) and also

earned a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration in 1987. Teri’s father, Mike, was an All-American lineman for the Trojans' football team

in 1959. Teri comes from a family of 10 children (she is the oldest), all with varied athletic backgrounds. Teri married Jerry Romani in the

spring of 2007. They live in Valley Center in Northern California.

Paula Behrhorst Garnsey’s (DA) son Blake attends Chapman University and has a radio show on Chapman

Radio.

Each year, Pimlico Race Course awards the Old Hilltop Award to selected members of the sports media who

have served Thoroughbred racing with excellence and distinction. This year, HRTV's Executive Producer and

Senior Vice President, Amy Zimmerman (DA) was given an Old Hilltop Award and joins the ranks of Red

Smith, the first honoree in 1976, Howard Cosell and Tom Hammond, among many others. A member of Santa

Anita's staff since 1986, Amy serves as that track's VP- Business Coordination & Director of Broadcasting, con-

current with her position at HRTV, which is headquartered at the Arcadia, California track.

Delta Alphas Christine Ofiesh and Jana Waring Greer were recognized with Alumni Service Awards at the 81st Annual USC

Alumni Awards Banquet. Jana chairs the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences Board of Councilors. Christine is

involved extensively with organizations at USC and has either been an officer or served on committees that include the USC Alum-

completed by yearend. The kitchen is getting a significant upgrade which

in turn is requiring some structural and mechanical upgrades as well. The

house is completed enough to allow the collegiate members to move in

and to use the house for Recruitment.

During the Open House, the fountain was dedicated to the Delta Epsilon

alumnae with a plaque unveiled by Stephannie Bailey (see picture below).

Alumnae Carol Reed and Eileen Lyon were honored for their years of

service maintaining the Delta Epsilon chapter house while the chapter

was off campus. They were each given framed tiles matching the original

tiles on the front staircase.

Delta Epsilon Chapter House Update

Alpha Gamma Delta Executive Director Pursuing New Opportunity Stephannie Sack Bailey (ZO), has left her role as Executive Director of Alpha Gamma Delta to pursue a

new professional opportunity. She has accepted a position as Executive Vice President for Matrix

Achievement, a global sales force effectiveness consulting firm that provides a platform of solutions

including training, coaching and technology.

In her six-year tenure at Alpha Gamma Delta, Stephannie has partnered with International Council to

make significant strides for our Fraternity. She has helped lead the Fraternity’s focus on financial stabil-

ity, membership growth, the member experience and organizational culture. During this time our Fra-

ternity has grown its assets to the highest level in organizational history, 14 new collegiate chapters

have been established and our overall membership has increased significantly. The Alpha Gamma Delta

Experience member development program was established, providing a framework for our collegiate

members to grow and develop as women. A new Fraternity brand was created, which encouraged all sisters to Live with Purpose

and feel proud of their membership in Alpha Gamma Delta. Additionally, the Fraternity Housing Corporation was established, and

under Stephannie’s leadership, has grown to 24 chapter facilities and over $24 million in assets.

During this transition period, International Council has appointed Dan Duncan as Interim Executive Director to continue work

on the Fraternity and FHC’s key priorities and to lead the staff throughout the transition. Dan is a member of Alpha Sigma Phi

Fraternity and has been part of the Alpha Gamma Delta staff leadership team for five years. Dan continues to serve as the Manag-

ing Director for Alpha Gamma Delta Property Management, LLC.

We have been fortunate in the Los Angeles Area to work with Stephannie extensively as our chapters have returned to campus

and our chapter houses have been renovated. Please join the LAAAC in wishing Stephannie all the best in her future career pur-

suits. The great news is that Stephannie is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and therefore we look forward to crossing paths

again in the future!

in Alpha Gamma Delta to support 2 collegiate chapters. Alumnae, you are AWESOME!

The Alumnae Chapter Board has been working hard to plan a variety of alumnae events and activities for 2014- 2015,

to help provide support and coordinate activities with our two collegiate chapters, and to promote our philanthropy

and Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation involvement. If you haven’t joined in or been able to attend an alumnae event

yet, don’t hesitate to join the fun! If you have an idea for a future event or activity, please contact us with your idea(s) .

If you want to get involved, in a big way or a small way, let me know. Even if you can’t attend an event, there are plen-

ty of ways to help or get involved. Contact information for your Board members is included in this newsletter.

At Convention 2014, the Alumnae Chapter, through the wonderful work of our Editor, Marijayne Wallace Stegman,

was recognized with the alumnae chapter award for Outstanding Communications. Please take a look at our website

at www.laaacalphagam.com and our Facebook page at AGD Los Angeles Area Alumnae Chapter for the latest and

greatest on current and upcoming events. We would love to hear news from you about what you are doing and/or

any new accomplishments or milestones in your life. Your news can be submitted via the Rosevines form in this news-

letter or through the Contact form on our website. Finally, don’t forget to pay your annual support fee to the Alum-

nae Chapter. Your support fees are what helps the Alumnae Chapter fund our activities and support our collegiate

chapters.

At Convention, new International President, Rie Gerah Hoehner, stated “our goals should be to seek the best, to be

our best, to reach for perfection and to achieve excellence,” and she challenged “each of us to set our sights at the

highest standards and reach for those goals of excellence and to become the inspiration to those around us to do the

same.” Sisters, thank you for all

your hard work that contributed

to the Alumnae Chapter’s suc-

cess over the last biennium and

for being an example for those

who will follow us in the years to

come. We look forward to the

challenges of the 2014-2015

unless you adjust this privacy setting.

If you would like to adjust your privacy settings:

1. Log in to myAlphaGam on www.alphagammadelta.org.

2. Click Edit My Profile near the top left hand corner.

At this time, you are unable to select which information you

would like to share.
