COURSESCHEDULE

FALL 2013

PPCC.EDU© 2013 Pikes Peak Community College

Welcome to eLearning/Distance Education at Pikes Peak Community College! PPCC’s class schedule includes a wide

variety of online and televised classes that meet the same high academic standards as their traditional counterparts.

Like the rest of PPCC, everyone in eLearning is committed to helping you meet your academic goals, whether you are

seeking a career and technical degree, the first half of a bachelor’s degree, or just a few classes to help you brush up

your skills. And we know that you are busy! The flexibility of online and televised course means that you can combine

classes with work and family commitments into a schedule that works for you. Some degrees are available fully online,

or you can combine online, televised and traditional sections as you like.

A couple of notes to help you use this schedule:

Interactive Television courses (identified as ITV sections) are broadcast over Comcast Channel 21 and Falcon Broadband Channel 78, and you must have one of those cable systems to access them. You may either watch them live and call in with questions or record and view them later.

PPCC offers two kinds of online courses. PPCC-based classes are identified by an N in the section number (ENG 121-1N1, for instance). Since they are fully online, students access classes at their convenience within the due dates and other guidelines established by their instructors. You should plan to log in about three times a week for each class, and be sure to allow ample time for the online discussions and other activities that our courses require. CCC Online courses (identified by a C in the section number) are also fully online, but for these sections PPCC joins forces with her twelve sister colleges in Colorado. Students and faculty may come from any of those schools.

Whether you choose online or televised courses, you can be confident that you will be accessing the same quality

classes that we offer in a traditional format. Every course meets the same state-approved course outcomes as the

face-to-face sections do. Also, our faculty are trained in the teaching and learning dynamics of nontraditional education,

and their course designs reflect that knowledge.

Finally, our eLearning Office at Centennial Campus (A-209) can answer your questions about how online and televised

courses can work for you. Just stop by, email ([email protected]), or call (502-3555).

All the best,

Julie Witherow, Director

Office of eLearning/Distance Education

Course Delivery Methods

PPCC Internet-based Classes / ppccConnect Classes

Students can access these classes from any computer connected to the Internet, including computers on campus.

Students will receive assignments, participate in threaded discussions, turn in assignments, and take examinations

online.

In most cases, no trips to campus are required. Most instructors establish due dates for assignments and

examinations, but within those time frames students work at their own pace, with no specific times to be online. For

more information, check "Distance Learning" on the PPCC website or call 719-502-3555.

NOTE: PPCC Internet-based classes follow the same schedule as regular classes regarding start, end, drop and

Schedule Preface

withdrawal dates.

Important Facts About ppccConnect

1. Textbooks are usually the same books used for on-campus classes. All textbooks are available at the Centennial

Campus bookstore or online at www.ppccbookstore.com.

2. Classes are accessed through the PPCC Portal. Click on ppccConnect in the Online Course access box.

3. PPCC Online classes are NOT self-paced. You are responsible for logging into your online class within the first

three days of the semester. Most instructors will have assignments due within the first week.

Interactive Television Classes

Interactive Television classes are broadcast from PPCC at the same time the class is being taught on campus. 1TV

students watch the class on television and call the instructor with questions or comments. The instructor will answer

the question on TV. Classes are broadcast on Comcast (Channel 21). Students should be sure that they receive this

channel before enrolling. For more information, call 719-502-3555 or 1-800-456-6847, ext. 3555.

All 1TV students must have Comcast Cable to view 1TV classes.

CCCOnline Classes

CCCOnline combines the efforts of most community colleges in Colorado to provide classes and in some cases full

degrees for students who want to pursue their education online. All students must choose a home school, and grades

earned by students who choose PPCC will go directly to their PPCC transcripts. Students can access these classes

from any computer connected to the Internet, including computers on campus when PPCC classes are in session.

Students will receive assignments, participate in threaded discussions, turn in assignments, and take examinations

online. Campus visits are not required. Most instructors establish due dates for assignments and examinations, but

within those time frames students work at their own pace, with no specific times to be online. On the first day of

classes CCC Online students should go to the PPCC Portal and click on CCC Online in the Online Course access

box.

CCC Online students may purchase textbooks at the Centennial or Rampart Range Campus Bookstore, the PPCC

Online bookstore at www.ppccbookstore.com, or through the CCC Online website, www.ccconline.org.

MATH 502-3600 Please note that the remedial math classes have been restructured. The current Developmental Math sequence is MAT 045, MAT 090 and MAT 099. (MAT 045 should be taken in place of MAT 030 and060. MAT 077 will no longer be offered effective Summer2012, so students needing Intermediate Algebra should take MAT 099.) MAT078-MAT088: These are 1-credit hour modules that span the content of MAT45, MAT090 and MAT099. On the first day of class students will take an ALEKS assessment and moved (if necessary) to the appropriate module. Enrolled students will be notified through their student email of a REQUIRED orientation the week before classes begin. Please see your advisor for more information.
