MEET DR. PETER BARR GSC’S NEW PRESIDENT He says strengthening the College and encouraging students to give back to their communities are two of his many goals. “We must train students for jobs, but, at the same time, educate them to make the world a better place to live.” Dr. Barr comes to Glenville State College from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina where he was the Provost and Senior Vice President serving as the school’s Chief Academic Officer. Barr not only contributed greatly to CCU but also to the entire Grand Stand area. He was recognized as the 2005 Myrtle Beach Volunteer of the Year. President Barr is a native of Huntington, West Virginia and a Marshall University graduate. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Marshall and a Doctor of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University. Barr and his wife, Betsy, have three grown children. He was among more than 70 candidates for the position and replaces former Glenville State College President, Robert Freeman, who retired the end of June. We are looking forward to meeting you under the blue and white tent at Morris Stadium at all home football games, an hour before kickoff. There will be light refreshments and a chance to see old friends. By Annette Barnette Director of Public Relations, GSC Glenville State College’s newest leader is enjoying his job as the 2006-2007 school year gets underway. Dr. Peter Barr officially began serving as President of GSC on July 1, 2006, but he arrived on campus June 15 th to get a jump start on the transition into his new job. In addition, we are hoping to return much of the pictorial history of GSC Athletics to the Jack Woodyard Room, giving you an opportunity to enjoy our rich history. Looking forward to a successful season, HOMECOMING 2006 October 7, 2006 Homecoming 2006 promises to be a special time of renewing old acquaintances when alums from far and near return to campus. Plans are currently underway to recognize all of our alums who have served as a cheerleader through the years. You’ll want to visit with them and other friends and alumni of GSC during what promises to be an exciting weekend at your alma mater. Kicking off Homecoming weekend and back by popular demand, GSC’s Pioneer Athletic Club will return their popular fundraiser, the pig roast, to Friday evening. The traditional pork barbeque, with potato salad, baked beans and more will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Morris Stadium on Friday evening, October 6 th . You won’t want to miss this social event where you’ll have an opportunity to meet all of our coaches and others active in Athletics at GSC. Additionally, alums are encouraged to stop by the Alumni Center from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon for a meet and greet social and an opportunity to enjoy your brick
