Design Technology at the Falcons
has never before seen such amazing
creations!
The boys have embraced their inner
design and creative abilities to really take
on the challenge of DT this term. From
pop up books in Year 3, to making tuned
and percussion instruments in Year 5,
we have had a glimpse of some of our
product designers of the
future.

Last week’s U10 matches were played on
Thursday afternoon against Wetherby with some
very tight and competitive matches. 3 draws and a
narrow loss separated the two sides with plenty to
work on in the coming weeks.
Sports News
It has been another week full of exciting and nail-
biting fixtures. On Monday our 1st XI went out of the
ISFA Cup 1st round after a 6-3 loss to Brighton
College. The side had a number of chances in this
match and should hold their heads high. Monday
also saw the U11’s visiting Fulham Prep, where 4
wins from 5 matches shows the strength in depth we
have in this year group. There were 25 goals scored
by the Falcons across the five matches which was
pleasing to see. On Tuesday the U9’s put in some
memorable performances against Fulham Prep,
coming away with 2 wins and a narrow loss. This
was a huge improvement from last week with all the
boys performing well. They have clearly worked hard
on the games field which really showed during their
matches.
Wednesday was a great day for our senior boys
against Fulham Prep. The 1st XI ran out 3-0
winners, with the team working hard to eradicate
Monday’s mistakes. The 2nd IX managed a 2-2
draw with huge improvements in their attacking
play, creating a number of chances to clinch the
game. Our 3rd IX for the
second week in a row
had arguably the most
exciting game, narrowly
losing 1-0 but a fine
team performance and
some real positives
from the afternoon.
On Thursday our U10
boys played five very
tough and competitive
matches against
Fulham Prep. It was a tough lesson in finishing
off games and taking your chances. Something
for our boys to work on in next week’s games
lessons. Well done to the boys for their efforts
this week!

On Saturday 16 September, we proudly attended
the Young People’s Poetry Competition
Prize Giving. Our winners were Callum S in Year
8, Sean D in Year 6, Tristan D in Year 5
and ex-pupil Alex W in Year 7.
Father Kevin Morris, the vicar of St Michael & All
Angels presented the prizes for the Chiswick Book
Festival Young People’s Poetry
Competition. James Priestman, the chair of judges
introduced the winners and commented on all of
their poems.
Now in its 7th year, the competition attracts entries
from many local schools and is supported
by ChiswickW4.com and Trotters.
The Falcons boys’ poems were all displayed in the
ceremony marquee and it was a delightful
occasion to see such talent celebrated. Each of
our prize winners received a certificate and a
goodie bag from Trotters.
The winners were also awarded in last Friday’s
assembly their ‘Poetry Award’ badge to wear all
year as our poet laureates.

The hard work in Geography progresses in all are-as and across all year groups although there are few examples of homework where the understanding that both time and effort are required for best results, is not fully employed. Also, as the week’s homework is written on the board in the classroom all week, absence from a lesson is no excuse for it not being in homework diaries or not done!
That aside, the ‘Geography Club’ noticeboard is up and running in the classroom with two photos of locations in the world that the boys need to identify. This is an introduction to what will become a competition in the coming weeks.
But I thought that parents may also like to join in with some trickier ones. Can you identify these places?

This week we learnt about Heracles and his tortured heroic life. Nevertheless, he never gave up and he never stopped struggling to survive and
go against the odds. “NON DESISTAS

House Captain
Each week we will be profiling the House Captain
of the four boy’s houses.
Name: Sam Owen
House: Molesey
Hobbies / interests: Velodrome cycling,
football, cricket and treking.
About me: I am quite an adventurous person.
Three of my best qualities include being creative,
loyal and helpful.
What I will do to lead Molesey house to
success: I would like to think I would
encourage the younger students in different as-
pects of school to try to do their very best. I would
like to be an inspiring captain, a role model in not
just sports but all around the school. I aim to help
anyone who might need help and be the best
house Captain I can be to help Molesey be
successful.
House President’s thoughts from Mr Leighton
-Bond: I am sure Sam will be a strong and confi-
dent leader to all the boys in Molesey House.
Sam is not just a sportsman but also a good role
model to others in terms of his hard work, helpful-
ness and resilience. I look forward to seeing Sam
lead his house to success in all competitions this
year, good luck!

Favourite sports Football and Gaelic Football
Sporting highlights Football has always been my main passion. Up until I was 15 years old I played for Brentford FC. Since then I have been in a few different teams such as Hillingdon Borough however my most recent achievement would have been competing at varsity level for St Mary’s University 1st team. Aside from football, my next sporting highlight would come from Gaelic Football, which is actually the highest level of sport I have competed at. Coming from an Irish background my parents were always keen to see me involved with our heritage. Playing for my local club I was chosen to go on and represent London as a county, where a squad of 20 boys were chosen out of the UK to contest with the likes of Dublin, New York and many more teams on a national scale.
Hobbies outside of sport My biggest hobby outside of the sporting field would have to be my love for Art, I am an avid painter and drawer, and visit exhibitions in my spare time. The artists that first grew my passion are Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein.
Coaching profile With my keen interest in sport and teaching I embarked on a Physical and Sport Education degree at the University of St. Marys. I have always been interested in coaching football so after graduating, I was offered a chance to work within Queens Park Rangers FC Academy which has been fantastic for my cognitive learning and dealing with elite level players.
Favourite sporting quote “Champions behave like champions before they are champions” Bill Walsh

Richmond F.C. Update

Thought of the Week
Every child has….
…the right to be respected
…the right to dream
…the right to be loved and cared for
…gifts that should be recognised and valued
…the right to achieve their God-given potential
…the need for unconditional love.
In the words of Nelson Mandela:
‘Our children are our future and one of the basic
responsibilities is to care for them in the best and
most compassionate manner possible…
There can be no keener revelation of a society’s
soul than the way in which it treats its children.’
