1. Problem/Project Guide:
Power Transmission System
- The students have to study Power Grid.- Understand the parameters of Power Transmission system.- Understand the load power factor.- Simulate the distribution system using suitable software and justify your answer with experimental results.
The student have to accomplish their task within three weeks time. As guide, students may follow the problem solving time-line as given in table below.
(a) Problem-solving Time-line
Activities Week 1 Week 2 Week 31. Understand/Identify/ Brainstorming
(Prepare group proposal, list materials, allocate tasks).
2. Submit individual report / Experiments and collect data.
3. Analyse and interpret data.
Assessment criteria are standardized for all laboratories and will generally be the same for all laboratories. For further understanding about the assessment criteria, please refer to PBL Third-year Laboratory Assessment document.
(b) Report WritingOther than the general guide specified by the Laboratory Coordinator, the report must include:
Photographs of the actual circuit construction Circuit diagram Photographs of your group members
Part of the student assessment will include reporting of their weekly activities and the log book.
(c) Questions That Can Help You Tackle The Problem
1. Model of Power Transmission system.2. What is performance of Power Transmission system?3. When this types of Power Transmission system is important and why?4. The effect of the load power factor.
2. Equipments list:
(a) The Distribution Trainer NE9080 which is located in Basic Power Laboratory. Manual for the Distribution Trainer is available at the laboratory.
(b) Load banks, consisting of resistor, inductor and capacitor, are also provided in the laboratory.
