FAITH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH “LOVING GOD, SERVING OUR NEIGHBORS”
Phone: 419-447-6748 Email: [email protected] Website: tiffinfaith.org
Dear Friends, “I thank my God
whenever I think of you, and every
time I pray for you all, I always
pray with joy for your partnership in the gospel
from the very first day up to the present.” Those
words from Philippians 1 capture my thoughts
today as I think about Faith Congregation.
We are partners in carrying the Word of God into
our Community – in living out God’s grace.
What a joy it was to celebrate World Wide
Communion last month, with scripture being read
in both Japanese, and Hindi – by members of our
congregation. Reminding us that we are connected
to brothers and sisters around the world through our
faith in Christ.
What joy to celebrate the new ministry of The
Landing that is now underway – reaching out to
teenagers in our community – sharing God’s love
and hope. What enthusiasm and sweet smiles the
Children’s Bell choir brought to us yesterday in
worship as Donna Perrine directed them. The adult
hand chime choir is practicing and soon will be
enhancing worship as well.
Beyond our walls – later in the newsletter you will
read an update from Meredith Glover – currently in
Germany preparing for her mission into India, and
an article from Megan Briggs sharing of her mission
trip to Africa in June, and her plans to enter into the
Peace Corps. How exciting! You have been a part
of preparing these young women to carry God’s
work into the far reaches of the world. Thanks be to
God for your faithfulness in caring for their spiritual
formation.
And the work goes on. We are a church blessed
with young families and the sounds of children in
worship must fall as a sweet offering upon God’s
ears! Praise God for those of you who tirelessly
give of your time and energy to have a positive
impact on our young people!
And the work goes on. We are a church blessed
with those in the second half of life who can offer
wisdom and encouragement as well as hands on
help to make a difference in our community of faith
and beyond! Faithful workers who have realized
that the only retirement plan God offers is when we
cross through those pearly gates.
And the work goes on as together, young and old,
experienced and novice we work together to
become the congregation God sees us as being.
I hope you will come and be a part of our serving
the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
Leaning into the Future with Hope,
Rev. Donna

Dear Congregation, thank you so much for the
Pastor Appreciation Brunch, all of the cards and
gifts, and especially for the trip to Valley View
Cabin near Salt Fork State Park. Karl and I will
truly cherish that get-a-way when it happens. What
a surprise blessing! Thank you so much!
Dear Faith UMC Members,
St. Paul’s UMC would like to
thank you for your recent donation of
children’s chairs to us from the former
Washington Street UMC Building.
We will certainly put them to good
use in our pre-Kindergarten

Blessings, St. Paul’s UMC
Dear Rev. Van Trees,
I would like to take this opportunity to
express my appreciation to you and the Faith
Methodist Church Congregation for affording me
the opportunity of being a part of the Washington
DC Honor Flight. Kudos to the
Honor Guard, the driver’s,
those who prepared the
breakfast, the people who bid
us farewell, and especially the
guides who took care of all our
needs, and the parting prayer.
Thanks again, John Gregory
Dear Friends:
Thank you for your gift of $200
to the Timothy Fund honoring
Bishop John Hopkins.
This fund will provide
scholarship support to
undergraduate students attending UM related
colleges.
With the Timothy Fund important financial support
will be available to students during their final 2
years of undergraduate studies.
Your support is truly affecting the life of the church
and society as a whole through the education and
training of individuals today who will lead
tomorrow.
Thank you for joining us in this worthy endeavor.
Sincerely,
Robert R. Fletcher, President/CEO
UM Higher Education Foundation
Dear Faith,
Thank you for giving me the bible. I will use
it at church and at Sunday School and camp.
From, Ryan Dietrich
Dear Ladies of the United Methodist Women;
On behalf of the staff of
Noble Elementary School, I want
to thank you for helping us this
year by providing us with some
sweatpants.
We occasionally have students
who spill their milk, slide down a
wet slide, or rip their pants. Sometimes we can’t get
hold of a parent to bring in a change of clothes and
it is nice to have clothing here. We appreciate your
donation and thank you for your kindness.
Sincerely, Mrs. Kontak,
Noble 4-5 Elementary School
Thank you!

The Connect Team will again sponsor
Thanksgiving Dinner on November 18, 2012. The
meal will be after the second service. We will cook
the turkeys and make dressing, gravy, and mashed
potatoes.
We are asking for the donation of four (4) fifteen
(15) pound turkeys to be at the church on November
12. Each family or individual is asked to bring their
own table service and a side dish or dessert.
We will be looking for some help. We will need
set-up help during the second service, servers
during the meal, and a clean-up crew. Please watch
the bulletin for opportunities to sign-up to help.
November 18th
after the
Thanksgiving
Dinner!
While some are cleaning
up after dinner, we invite others to help us decorate
the church for Advent and Christmas. With many
hands, the work will go quickly. If we have several
people, the tree will be up in no time and the
decorations around the church will be completed in
a timely fashion. Coordinated by the Celebrate
Team
Thanks to your generosity, over the past year
Sharon Richey has made and donated over 40 lap
robes to residents of nursing homes.
She’s running out of yarn! If you would like to donate
yarn to help her continue
her ministry of knitting,
please bring your
yarn donations to the church. There will be a box in
the Narthex.

The Serve Team would like to
thank everyone who participated
in the Christmas Child Shoe Box
Ministry. We have received over 100 Shoe Boxes
to date. Final totals will be in the December
Newsletter.
Our mission for November will be the Flat Rock
Wish List and the Mitten Tree. We will have tags
on a tree that will have an
item that has been
requested by the residents
at Flat Rock. We are
asking that if you are able
to take at least one and purchase it, we will
appreciate it. Please DO NOT WRAP your gift but
DO include the original tag with the gift so that we
know to whom it is going. As always, thank you
for your generosity.
Help send me to
Africa!
As I am well
into the start of a new
year at Kent State
University, I become
more anxious at what the future will bring. I
am studying to earn my Bachelor's degree in
Public Health with a concentration in
Education and Health Promotion. I will be
graduating next May (2014) and plan on
joining the Peace Corps shortly after. This has
been something I have researched and wanted
to complete for a few years now. I have a
passion for using my skills and abilities to help
others and I believe the Peace Corps will give
me the opportunity to do this. I've been on
several mission trips to Henderson Settlement,
but this is only the start of what I want to
achieve. My next mission: volunteering at an
orphanage in Africa. The organization I will be
traveling through is called International
Volunteer; an organization formed in early
2007 with the aim of making volunteering
possible for everyone through affordable, safe,
high quality projects in developing countries.
There are ample volunteering opportunities;
however, working for an orphanage for one
week was the one I was immediately drawn to.
This is where I could use your help!
With this being my second year in college, I
continue to try and keep up with the financial
burden that is tacked along with it. I put in
much effort to keep my grades up, while still
working two jobs, being on the committee for
my school's chapter of Habitat for Humanity,
as well as partaking in a few other campus
organizations. As I prepare to make a journey
half way around the world, I just ask for a small
amount of generosity to help get me there so I
can offer what I have to help children who may
not have anything. I hope this gives you a little
more information about my aspirations, my
passion for volunteering, and the journey I will
soon be embarking on. I will be speaking soon,
with more information to come on the trip
itself and answer any other questions you may
have!

Yingling Education
Unit at Faith UMC
When Faith Church came into
being, there was little debate on
what should be done with the
Yingling endowment money
that was part of Washington
Street UMC. It was proposed
that in honor of Charles
Yingling’s dedication to Sunday
school, that its interest be used only on the
education unit of Faith UMC. That proposal was
well received by both the Finance & Vision Teams.
Who was he? Charles J. Yingling was a well
known Superintendent of the Sunday School. He
was active in many ways in the former Methodist
Protestant Church on Market Street, which later
became Washington Street Church. In May 1896
he served as a page at the General Conference of the
M.P. Church in Kansas City, Kansas. There was an
article in the May 21, 1924 Methodist Protestant
paper that described him as: “One of the chief
influences in the up building of the Washington
Street church. He belonged to one of our great
Maryland Methodist Protestant families. Somehow
or other, down this way, we could never think of
Tiffin church without thinking of Brother Yingling.
A man most splendid in character, whom the Lord
blessed with means that he gave unstintedly to the
upbuilding of his church”.
For forty years he presided over the affairs of the
Sunday School as its superintendent. He delighted
in his work. He was ever faithful and loyal and due
to his loving interest in the same, the Sunday School
pursued a steady and progressive course through all
the years.
Not only in the Sunday School, but in the Church,
he played an important part and gave freely and
largely of his means that the church might have
success.
He was the first to give his pledge for the new
church, and this was given in his home when a few
members came together to launch the movement
and pledge themselves for its success.
After his pledge was given, he passed on to that
beautiful land where God had prepared for him a
home. Though departed, he lived – lived on in the
church where for so long he ministered. His
passion for the education of teaching the scriptures
lived on at Washington Street UMC, and now lives
on here at Faith as we honor his life and work by
naming the Education Unit after him.

The U.M.W. will be meeting Saturday morning,
November 10 at 10am. Pastor Tress Hodkinson,
Board member and Sami Reamer, Coordinator from
First Step, Fostoria will be special guests/speakers
at the Nov. 10 meeting. First Step is a Healthy
Family Resource Center that deals
with parenting issues, counseling, domestic abuse
and many other family issues.
We invite ALL women of the church to attend this
meeting to hear what great things they are doing in
Seneca (and other counties) to help families in need.
The Sweat Pants for Schools was very successful.
We collected 15 pairs of sweat pants and Krout and
Washington schools were very appreciative of
receiving the pants.
Three of our members went to the Firelands District
meeting at Lorain Lighthouse Church on Oct. 13.
We enjoyed the Sycamore Drama Team's
interpretation of the Old Testament and a
presentation by Cathy Liggett about "Beaded Hope"
program to help girls and women in poor countries
who are forced into prostitution. "Beaded Hope"
gives them the opportunity to make jewelry that is
then sold in the United States that provides them the
chance to break the chains of human slavery and
support themselves.
Pastor Greg Sellers conducted the Installation of
the Firelands District Officers and then told us
about the growth of Lorain Lighthouse Church
since the merger of three Methodist churches in
Lorain three years ago.
Our Thank Offering service will be included in
our meeting on November 10. All women are
invited

Advent Bible Study Tuesdays, Dec 4, 11, 18
The Art of Christmas Kay Hicks, Fine Arts Department, Terra State CC
A study of Scripture and art as it relates to the
storytelling of Christ’s Birth.
Storytelling through Art was extremely important
during the Middle Ages when the
majority of the population of Europe
was illiterate. We continue to see some
of the best images from that era and the
Renaissance on many of our Christmas
cards. Over time artworks adorned
private chapels and monastery walls.
But we have also been influenced by the tradition
and symbolism in those artworks. We will compare
Scripture to Art (painting, sculpture, and even
architecture) and also study the styles and changes
in art over those centuries through PowerPoint
images.

Bell in place in North lawn
– In looking for a place to create a
memorial garden around the
bell, the North Lawn
seemed the best spot.
There are currently two trees
placed in memory there, and
the vision is to create landscape
around the bell to include those trees,
possibly have a few benches for seating, and offer
pavers to be placed in memory of loved ones in that
area. A sign capturing the history of the 1871 bell
is also planned for that area.

This is where I belong!
Youth with a Mission
Report from Meredith Glover
training in Cologne Germany
Sword or Shoe? Sword or Shoe? On Monday our school leaders told us that they had
decided the outreach (missions trip) locations, but
that they wanted us to pray about where God
wanted to send US individually because now we
were OBVIOUSLY pros at hearing God's voice, we
would have two teams. We then had three options:
1. Go down to the basement and they would tell us
the two countries and we could pray that way.
2. Stay in the dining room and they would tell us the
different continents.
3. Go upstairs and they would give us two
symbols representing the countries and we could
pray that way.
Knowing myself, and how much I like to make
decisions, I chose the symbols that way I had to
totally rely on God for the answer.
It was frustrating.
The first night and part of the day I heard a big fat
nothing...
and I was like, "here's the thing God. I can't choose
between two ridiculous symbols on my own"
This went on and on...and then we were in lecture
and the speaker gave a verse from Zephaniah...I
honestly don't even know what the verse was now,
but the book wouldn't get out of my head. So
immediately I sat down in our little nook and read
Zephaniah. Where I came across this verse:
The Lord will be awesome to them when he
destroys all the gods of the earth.
Distant nations will bow down to him, all of them
in their own lands.
You Cushites too, will be slain by my sword.
BAM!! God had called me to the
sword.
I told the leaders, and then after a LONG day of
waiting, they revealed the teams and the country. I
am going to INDIA!!
For those of you who know me, you know this is
what I have been waiting for.
My heart has been heavy for the country of India for
years. Ever since I heard of human trafficking and
read the book Sold I have wanted to go there and
take action. Now I get to.
God is good.
This also means that the fundraising begins. I am
not sure the exact cost of the trip yet, but the cost
started with the visa for India.
A six month visa cost $103
A ten year visa cost $193
I am OBVIOUSLY getting the ten year one because
the job will not be done.
This cost has graciously been covered, and I would
like to thank God for that! I would also ask that you
would all put this trip in your heart and pray about
making a contribution.
