It is that time of year again when the warm weather comes and signs of new, growing, vibrant life begins to emerge! This year it seems to have arrived a bit earlier than usual. We have had some warm sunny beautiful days! In some places I saw spring cleanup began almost on the first day of spring as planting beds were being raked and cleaned as the old life signs were cleared away. Before some areas were even raked, signs of new life pushed through in the form of daffodils, crocus and tulips. It’s been quite some time it seems, since flowers and trees have bloomed and lawns were ready cut so early. I have enjoyed these unexpected and unseasonably warm sunny early days of spring. There is something about this time of year as the gray, brown, dark lifelessness of winter gives way to spring that is encouraging. I find more energy, and that energy is often needed as the physical cleanup work begins and muscles that have slumbered are awakened for work! preparing for the warm growing season that reminds me of the work of God in our life. During the season of Lent, a season of preparation for Easter, I give thanks that God is gracious and merciful and is gentle in helping us clear away the debris that collects and settles on our hearts and minds and clouds our vision and direction and purpose in life. I give thanks that God’s is ever intent in providing place and space for new and vibrant life to emerge within and through us; shining his glory. I give thanks for the unexpected ways God breaks forth in my life reminding me of his ever-presence. As we continue on through the season of Easter may we each continue to seek God’s help in recognizing the unexpected unanticipated ways our lives are being cleared and touched by his grace and celebrate the

Some camps offer weekly themes, while others have different studies available. The activities are unending: horseback riding, canoeing,

The Easter Season begins at sunset on Easter eve and continues through the Day of Pentecost. It is also known as the Great Fifty Days. The date for celebrating Easter Sunday varies each year. Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or after March 21, the spring equinox. Easter was originally an Anglo-Saxon pagan goddess holiday. Over time the faithful “Christianized” the day to shift the focus to the risen Christ. The fifty days, from Easter to Pentecost, mirror in many ways the

Jewish festivals celebrated between the Passover and Pentecost. In both cases, the story of salvation is central. For the Jewish people their story is centered in their deliverance from captivity in Egypt to fifty days later being given the Torah (the Law/the Word of God) at Sinai. For Christians the story centers on the Risen Christ as deliverer from sin and death to the unique outpouring of the Holy Spirit 50 days later. The first forty days of Easter often focus on the resurrection appearances of Christ and conclude with his Ascension. The remaining ten days are filled with anticipation of the arrival of the promised Holy Spirit. Ascension Sunday this year is May 8. Pentecost Sunday is May 15.

He is risen! He is risen indeed! For that, O God, we give you thanks!

Easter

fishing, sports camps, night owl camp, fashion camp— the list goes on! The camps go by the grade your child will be going into in the fall. The church will once again help with the camp fee. If you have any questions or need more info, contact Jane Schubert at (419) 448-8267.

Camp Fund Once again some of our youth will be going to church camp. The Administrative Board has decided to help with the camper fees—the church will pay $205 per camper. You may donate to this fund by putting your donation in an envelope during the offering and marking it “Camp Fund.” Our youth are changed through their camp experiences— be a part of that! At this time, two youth are signed up. Thank you for your help!

UMW Spring District Meeting will be April 9 at Birmingham U.M.C., Wakeman. We will be car pooling. If anyone would like to attend, please call Linda Lonsbury at (419) 447-2811.

United Methodist Women's Sunday will be April 10 during the three worship services. U.M.W. District President, Alice Luhring will be our guest speaker at the 1st and 2nd services. We will recognize the effect that our United Methodist Women have in our community and in our world. United Methodist Women will be hosting our annual All Daughters Banquet May 7 at noon in the church's Fellowship Hall. We will have a potluck and we are asking you to please bring your favorite salad to share. Desserts and beverages will be furnished. Our program will be presented by the Hot Flashes—twelve ladies from Pemberville whose attire consists of pedal pushers, saddle shoes and hot pink jackets will entertain us with songs of the 50's and 60's. Reservation slips will be passed out after services in mid April. Mark it on your calendar and come and enjoy the fellowship and good fun.

Our mission for April will be the annual fund raiser for the Race for the Rock for Flat Rock. Mark April 24 on your calendar and plan to have lunch for a donation following both the 2nd and 3rd services. There will also be a silent auction. Come and enjoy the fellowship and good food as we help others. Hot dogs, bratwurst, and chicken sandwiches, and other assorted salads and desserts prepared by our church members are to be provided. The team would also like to thank all who purchased peanut butter in March that was sent to feed the hungry in Haiti, Honduras, El Savador, Cuba and the United States.

United Veterans of Seneca County are inviting all veterans to participate in the Tiffin Memorial Day Parade on May 30. Form up is at St. Joseph’s Church at 9 a.m. and the parade begins at 10 a.m. Wagons to ride in are to be provided. The fellowship hall at St. Joseph’s will be open before the parade for refreshments. Adult Study Beginning in April, an adult study will discuss “The Beautiful Work of Learning to Pray” by James Howell from 9:15 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sundays in the Pilgrim Room.

Provisions will be made in the summer for children if needed. Materials are furnished. Come any Sunday, time and inclination permitting.

One tribe in North America has told this story for centuries: when people “pale as birch” crossed the great water in large canoes, they brought with them “The Black Book.” However, the bringers of the physical Book could not have known what it would mean and look like

Supporting the Ministry of Christ Among Native People Most Americans today recognize that the history following the arrival of the large canoes bore little resemblance to the one all Christians identify as Creator. That’s why the people of The United Methodist Church, Native and non-Native, are creating a new history. Through Native American Ministries Sunday, we’re able to equip and empower Native American pastors, congregations and seminary students to do what only they can do: authentically worship and serve Jesus. As a member of The United Methodist Church, your gift, on this day, equips Native congregations—like New York’s Onondaga Nation UMC and Nebraska’s Native American Sacred Winds congregation—to worship and serve as only they can.
