Central Christian Academy teaches Bible because it is the inspired Word of God and the means to which the Holy Spirit can instruct us. Everything in the Bible is written to teach us. Through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we have hope. (Romans 15:4) Through studying the Bible, saints will believe that Jesus is the Son of God (John 20:31). While saints take a daily Bible course, the content of this book is woven into all areas of instruction and life at Central Christian Academy. The academic content objectives for fourth grade will focus on the fruit of the Spirit and its quality of faithfulness. The curriculum presents three strands of instruction: a survey or overview of the New Testament; an in-depth, personalized study of popular passages; and application of these Scriptures to important issues faced by fourth graders. This course is designed to challenge saints to think and become more Christ-like before entering their pre-teen years. The focus is personal Bible study and the understanding of principles which can guide all of life’s decisions. Students will have opportunities to consider the teachings of scripture in relation to the following: • Wanting to be accepted by others• Negativepeerinfluence• Self-esteem• Preparing for adolescent changes• Being honest• Disrespect to adults

mathAcademicContentObjectives

Central Christian Academy teaches Mathematics because God designed our world with precision. The study of Mathematics at Central Christian Academy is more than the study of numbers alone. It is the study ofhowmathreflectstheperfectionofGod’screation.Throughthiscourse, staintswilldiscoverarelationshipbetween creation and mathematics. It will help saints gain a greater understanding of who God is. Through daily calendar and literature unit activities, fourth grade saints will see that Math skills are essential to their every day lives. They will see that mathematical concepts are a part of God’s design and perfect plan for His creation. The fourth grade academic content objectives place emphasis on multiplication and division with whole numbers and solving problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions and decimals. Students willdevelopfluencywithmultiplicationthrough12x12andthecorrespondingdivisionfactsastheybecomeproficientinmultiplyinglargernumbers.Studentswillapplyknowledgeofplacevalueandthepropertiesofadditionandmultiplicationasstrategiesforsolvingproblems.Studentsalsowillrefinetheirestimationskills for computations and measurements. Students will describe and compare characteristicsofplaneandsolidfigures.Concretemodelsandpictorialrepresentationswillbeusedtosolveproblems involving perimeter and area, patterns, probability, and equivalence of fractions and decimals. The use of appropriate technology and the interpretation of the results from applying technology tools must be an integral part of teaching, learning, and assessment. While learning mathematics, students will be actively engaged, using concrete materials and appropriate technologies to facilitate problem solving. However, facility in the use of technology shall not be regarded as a substitute for a student’s understanding of quantitativeandalgebraicconceptsorforproficiencyinbasiccomputations. The acquisition of specialized mathematical vocabulary and language is crucial to a student’s understandingandappreciationofthesubjectandfostersconfidenceinmathematicscommunicationandproblem solving. Problem solving is integrated throughout the content strands. The development of problem-solving skills is a major goal of the mathematics program at every grade level. The development of skills and problem-solving strategies must be integrated early and continuously into each student’s mathematics education. The following objectives, while aligned with the Fourth Grade Mathematics Virginia Standards ofLearning, havebeenadjustedtoincludeBiblicalprinciplesandthespecificcurriculumusedatCentralChristian Academy.

social studiesAcademicContentObjectives

Central Christian Academy teaches Social Studies because it is important for saints to gain an understanding of their heritage as it relates to Biblical principles and the society in which we live. History is considered to be “His stories” and therefore, the main textbook for this course is the Holy Bible. The fourth grade saints will continue the study of history that began in second and third grade. They have already covered history spanning from Creation (4,000 B.C.) to The death and resurrection of Christ (33 A.D). This year, they will study the period of history from Pentecost to the Middle Ages (AD 30 - 1456).They will learn the history of the Early Church, the trials, persecution, and martyrdom that the spread the magnificentstoryofJesusChrist.TheirstudieswillexpandonthefalloftheRomanEmpireandtheDarkAgesthat followed. Saints will delve into the chivalry of knights and damsels, kings and queens, and the peasants who faithfully served them. They will visit Vikings and villains; castles and crusades; and the poetry of Dante and Chaucer. Beyond Europe, they will learn about the life of Mohammed and the spread of Islam along with the rise and fall of dynasties in Japan and China. In Africa, they will discover the Coptic (Egyptian) Church and Great Zimbabwe in the south. Saints will unveil the rituals of the Aztecs and the gold of the Incas in Peru. All along the way, students will pause to hear the voice of God as He speaks through missionaries like Columba, St. Patrick, and Cyril. They will see the struggles within the church as it grows, expands, and threatens the authority of emperors and kings. The year ends with the tragic death of Joan of Arc, the fall of Constantinople, and the invention of the printing press which spreads the Word of God across Europe. The saints will continue to develop map skills as they locate areas of study. They will demonstrate an understanding of economic concepts and emphasize that intellectual skills and bearing the fruit of the Spirit is required for responsible citizenship. The following material will be taught using The Mystery of History Volume II by Linda Lacour Hobar (2004), materials from Answers in Genesis, Abeka History books, and the ACSI Purposeful Design Bible Curriculum.

physical educationAcademicContentObjectives

Central Christian Academy believes that saints need to be physically active to grow properly. According to the National Association of Sports and Physical Education (NASPE), elementary classes should spend 150 minutes every week in physical education. Since God chooses our bodies for His temple and dwelling place, it is important that we take care of them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Therefore, CCA places a priority on children being active at school and emphasizes a strong physical education program. Saints in fourthgrademakecontinuousprogressacrossallfundamentalmotorpatterns.Proficientmovement patterns are possible as saints combine locomotor and manipulative skills in increasinglycomplex situations. Saints create sequences in educational exercise and gymnastics. They applymovement concepts and principles in individual movement, and tactical strategies in simplepartner activities. Fitness assessment is appropriate at this grade level, and saints make interpretationsof the results of their assessments and set personal goals based on the results.
