The #1 barrier to influencing our grandchildren is when our relationship with our adult children, their parents, is not harmonious. Two things you already know: 1. 2.

The Control/Influence Principle:

Parenting is the process of letting go of control. Therefore, as a grandparent, you have no control.

1. The effectiveness of our influence is directly proportional to the

depth of our relationships.

a. What is causing the breakdown of the relationship on your side?

2. Focus on constructive connections, not destructive differences.

Sometimes, our adult children are beyond just not cooperating, they are defiant against spiritual things, living a sinful life, or worse. What do we do in that instance? How about – do what Jesus did?

2. We may be the only “Jesus” our grandchildren ever see; so like Him, we want to be full of grace and full of truth.

with grace.


Talk about how this principle of leading with grace applies in your relationships as a grandparent.
