It is an honor to be appointed as Elders to the Session of Faith Community Church, especially at this important time in the life of our church. We realize that to be effective leaders for our church family, we must be totally committed to the responsibili-ties that come with being on Session.

Therefore, we gladly accepted the responsibility of leading the Interpretation & Stewardship Ministry for this year. After a re-view of the financial reports and a briefing on our current finan-cial status, this responsibility has taken on an even higher degree of importance than anticipated.

In short, our church is facing a critical shortfall in income through the first 9 months of 2016, which will require increased belt-tightening and expense control for the balance of the year. However, these measures will only maintain the basic church functions and programs as we head into our most active time in the church year. Like you, we asked “Why?” we are faced with this situation and here’s what we found when we looked at our financials through September 30, 2016:

Pledge envelope offerings are <7.9%> below budget. Plate offerings are <16.2%> below budget. Overall income is <8.1%> below budget. Major repairs to the roof of Faith Center required utilizing re-

serve funds until the special pledges are paid.

What can we do now? We are not asking for a special offering. We only ask that you review your planned giving for this year to date and if you are not up to date with your commitment, please make an effort to do so. If we just bring our planned giving up to date, this will alleviate our current shortfall and financial crisis.

As we look forward to our needs for 2017, we are optimistic about the future of our church and its plans to meet the needs of our members and community. We’ll bring you more news about the stewardship campaign later. In the meantime, we thank you for your continued support and prayers.

returns

Wednesday, November 9

Beginning Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m., Pastor Bruce Reynolds will be leading a 6-week series enti-tled:

STORM SEASON Weathering the Storms of Life

Regardless of the calendar the Chris-tian often encounters storms of vary-ing intensity. Our faith has been tested by high winds and waves along with prolonged precipitation. How does the believer not only sur-vive, but be revived by these intense encounters?

Join us for five Wednesday evenings beginning on November 9 to dis-cover not only how those in Scripture dealt with their storms, but what we can learn about weathering our storms today.

November 9 – The Eye of the Storm

 November 16 – Storm Surge

 November 30 – Storm Survival

December 7 – The Perfect Storm

December 14 – The Calm in the Storm

It was the middle of the night, my son, Daniel, once woke me up with the words, “Dad, I just heard a really scary noise!” Half-awake, I said to him, “Daniel, can you explain to me what it sounded like?” He thought for a moment and then gave a truly creative an-swer. He said, “Well, you know the TV show the Jet-

sons?” Half awake, I nodded, “Yes.” He continued, “They have a robot named Rosie who makes a funny noise when she walks. It sounded like that!” I still had no idea what he was talking about, but I was convinced he at least thought he heard some-thing. I stumbled back with him to his bedroom and I said, “Okay, I’ll lie down with you a few minutes to see if we hear the noise again.”

A few minutes went by and sure enough, we heard the sound. Daniel grabbed his flashlight and within a few seconds time we had solved the mystery. You see the noise was coming from the family’s hermit crab that had vanished three weeks earlier. I don’t know what you would call that, but Daniel called it a miracle, a resurrection had taken place in the middle of the night!

Like Daniel, is not easy for us to handle crazy noises in the darkness. Such noises come in ways that we may not expect.

It may be a strange sound in the middle of the night.

It may be the possibility of losing your health.

It may be losing a loved one.

You’ve been laid off from your job.

You may find you that you love someone who does not love you back.

There are many in our coun-try hearing dark and crazy noises as we seek a new president for our country!

That night long ago Daniel was able to find some comfort from his dad. Yes, there is something reassuring about a loving hug and shining a light in the darkness. But ultimately our real comfort comes from a God who calls out to us: Re-

joice in the Lord always. I will

say it again: Rejoice! (Philip-pians 4:4)

I love this verse, yet I also have to admit that this verse might be the hardest verse in the Bible to actually live out in everyday living.

Sometimes we can’t go for more than one minute without losing some of our joy.

It doesn’t have to be some-thing big. It may just be a red light or a flat tire. It might even be a hermit crab, making a scary noise.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

—Philippians 4:4

Thanks be to God that there is no darkness that cannot be overcome by the light of God’s loving plan for our life.

We can rejoice in the Lord always because our God is able to work all things to-gether for the good. Yes, even the pain and tragedy of life can be “worked to-gether;” as God works out his inextricable purpose and God’s pre-ordained good for all who have been called according to his loving and good purpose.

“It Will Be Fine”

I’ve heard that girls dream about their wedding day throughout their lives, but did you know that men also think about their daughter’s wedding day? I’m not just talking about the bills. I’m talking about that moment. I have thought about that moment so many times when I will walk her down that aisle, say those 4 words, “her mother and I,” and hand her over. Well it just hap-pened and it was everything I ever dreamed about.

Surrounded by a flurry of activ-ity, I, the Father of the Bride, will have one last moment with the daughter I have enjoyed and protected all these years. Sarah Lawhead’s last moments before becoming Mrs. Sarah Cotton will be spent walking with her dad. I thought, “I have to make this good, tell her how beautiful she looks and how proud I am of her.”

It was a beautiful outdoor wed-ding in Long Island, NY, where the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and we enjoyed comfort-able fall temperatures. As we stepped onto the makeshift aisle placed carefully in the sand, I noticed it was made out of wooden grates. I could tell that Sarah was nervous about her high heels and the spaces of the grates. She grabbed a little tighter to my arm as she looked

down at the grates. I said, “It will be fine. I’ve got you. Just keep looking up.” We walked with our heads held high and never tripped once. The best part about that is that we could see the faces of family and friends who came to witness the occasion and then focus on her beloved whose eyes were completely welled up with tears by the time we reached the altar.

As I reflected on that day, I started to wish that I could have said what I had planned while walking down that aisle. But then it occurred to me that the words I spoke that day are the same words that I’ve been saying to her all her life. Like when she learned to ride a two wheeler and rollerblades and the first time she jumped off a diving board—“It will be fine. I’ve got you. Just keep looking up.”

I feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the role I have been allowed to play as fa-ther. And grateful for a Heavenly Father who under-stands me, protects me, and loves me. Even when I doubt Him, I can imagine His reas-suring words, “It will be fine. I’ve got you. Just keep look-ing up.”

Thanksgiving is always a special time for all of us at Faith Café. Often we all seem to take for granted the wonderful meals and family times that the holidays bring. Unfortunately, the guests of the Café don’t always get to share these blessings. Helping with Faith Café gives us an opportunity to share with others that aren’t as fortunate. This month we will again celebrate Thanksgiving at Faith Café. For the fourth year in a row, the wonderful folks at La

Fleur’s Gymnastics Club are sponsoring our Thanksgiving Dinner. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving we will have a great Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings for over 100 guests. All this is provided for by the gener-osity of the Club’s owners and members. What a blessing! Please consider joining our Café regulars and our friends from La Fleur’s in volunteering to help with this great family dinner.

In this special time of giving, we hope you will use the holidays as a chance to further support the Café. Each week, now, we serve about 80 meals and the cost of our meals continues to climb. Please

consider a special holiday finan-

cial gift so that this ministry can

continue. Always we send a spe-cial thanks to the so many people that volunteer each week making each meal possible.

Thank you from all of us

Pioneer Clubs Pioneer Clubs began its 77th year of training up children around the world to follow Christ in every aspect of life this Fall. We began our 15th year of Pioneer Clubs on Au-gust 17 and have welcomed 64 children so far this year. We are amazed at all that God has accomplished through us in the past and are excited about what He has in store for us in the weeks ahead.

Exciting new experiences await children who attend Pio-neer Clubs. Children, age 2 through grades 5, have an op-portunity to participate in Pio-neer Clubs during our mid-week ministry Faith Connec-tion. The purpose of Pioneer Clubs is to help children put Christ in every aspect of life by recognizing him as Savior and Lord and developing a lifestyle based on biblical val-ues. The biblical lessons for kids help them learn about God, the Bible and themselves, as they explore fun activities and make new friends.

Did you miss registering at the beginning of the new school year? NO PROBLEM! Each unit is four weeks long so you

are welcome to join us at any time throughout the 2016/17 school year. It is never too late. You can obtain an application in the Church or Preschool office or online at our website. Scholarships are always available by request.

Pioneer Clubs’ theme and verse for the year is…Made for this…I

raised you up that My Name may

be declared in all the earth!” —Romans 9:17

grade begin Sunday School at 9:20 a.m. in their classroom. Children in third through fifth grade attend with their family during Praising God

in Song time in worship and then are dismissed to their Sunday School class. We continue to use Disciple-

Land during our Sunday School time.

We honored Mission Sunday in Octo-ber with a large class presentation highlighting the Thornwell Home for Children. Morgan Butler Ednie was our guest speaker. The children enjoyed learning more about the home and even made “welcome” cards for the back packs that each new child receives upon entering Thornwell Home for Children.

Children, in Kindergarten through 5th grade, attend Children’s Church

during the 11:00 a.m. service.

What a great start at Orange Grove Elementary as we began our 6th year in October on WEDNESDAYS! It was so ex-citing to see our returning stu-dents and begin to build rela-tionships with many new stu-dents. Right now we have a wonderful team of nine volun-teers; they are truly a blessing as well as being blessed themselves each week at club. We continue to look for additional grade shepherds, prayer partners along with financial supporters. We are looking for volunteers on and off the school campus: Grade shepherds – People who build wonderful relationships directly with the children at club each week

Prayer partners - folks who are willing to pray for the club, volun-teers and the children’s requests we receive each week

Supporters - We are in need of donations o The cost to rent the classroom is $38 per week

o The cost per Bible is $6 o Gummies o Special Goodies & Incentives

THORNWELL HOME FOR CHILDREN…

Informational Meeting

Sunday, November 13 10:45 AM Faith Center

Thornwell Home for Children is located in Clinton, South Carolina. We have supported the home for many years with an annual offering through the Thornwell Turkeys and mostly recently our Mission Sunday. There is a lot of interest in doing more! We would like to schedule a mission trip during Spring Break, March 13-17, 2017. This trip can be an all adult trip, an intergenerational one or all of our 5th grade students. The dynamics of our group will guide us to the needed projects.

We will stay right on campus at the Safay Cottage which has a full kitchen, 7 bedrooms along with bath-rooms. The cottage can easily house 20 individuals.

There is much more to share with you. If you are in-terested in this trip, please come to the Informational

Meeting on Sunday, November 13 at 10:45 a.m. in Faith Center. If you cannot make the meeting, but are

interested in the trip, please call the Church Office.

Finally, the weather is changing and the temperature is slowly dropping. This is my favorite time of year! What a great month to give thanks to our Heavenly Father who always has and who always will provide and meet our needs. We have an abundance of things to give thanks for. One thing in particu-lar that I would like to give thanks for is this church. We come to such a loving, caring, generous, God-honoring and beautiful church. I am so thank-ful for each and every one of you because it takes everyone to make Faith Community Church what it has come to be today. So, I want to say thank you!

In this beautiful month of No-vember, on Wednesday nights we will be finishing our series called Re-Three and talking about Reformed, Renewed, and Refreshed. We will enjoy fel-lowship, food, fun and most im-portantly God’s Word.

Sunday Morning

On Sunday mornings, we will be starting a series through the book of Exodus. We will be dis-cussing certain topics like our

story in Exodus, more numerous than the stars, days of darkness, drawn out, sojourner, God sees and knows and God speaks. This will be a great series to dive deeper into God’s Word and learn more about the book of Exodus. You will not want to miss out on this compelling new series. Come out on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. and enjoy digging into God’s Word, fellow-ship, friends, games and bagels with cream cheese.

REVERB!

On November 11, we will be at-tending Reverb. It is a Word of Life event that is an all-night

event in Orlando. We will be at-tending the Orlando Magic game that night followed by many ac-tivities throughout the night. This is something to get excited about and will be the highlight of our students’ year! (Because I know it will be the highlight of my year!!) It will be a great time to get to know each other and to have a lot of fun!

Remember, the need for non-perishable food items is criti-cal at this time of year for the Food Pantry we support. With the holidays coming, we need to keep restocking our pantry as often as we can. Shop for BOGOs (buy one get one free) and help those who need extra help feeding their families.

Jelly Cereal Canned meat Spaghetti sauce Canned fruit Beans Soup Crackers

These are just some of the items you can bring. Even though Food Pantry Sunday is the first Sunday of the month, hunger is every day, so bring your items any Sunday or dur-ing the week for our Food Bar-rel.

The Preschool is a busy place this month. Our children have adjusted and are thor-oughly enjoying school. We have many children regis-tered in our program plus younger children attending Mother’s Morning Out (MMO) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We have a couple openings in our 3 year old MWF 3 day class, and a few openings in our VPK 4’s classes.

November activities for preschool include:

 November 18 - Thanksgiv-ing celebrations.

November 21 – 25 - School closed for Thanksgiving Holidays!

The preschool has many bless-ings to count: caring parents, a supportive church congrega-tion and eager preschool learners.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and count your many bless-ings.

Perhaps you have prayed that someone would come along-side your loved one and lead them to the Lord. Perhaps the Lord is providing that oppor-tunity for you to be that someone for others by host-ing a Christmas Gathering in your home this December.

We don't have to go to a foreign mission field to share the love of Christ; we can be effective missionaries in our neighborhoods and work-places right here in Pinellas County. Join us for the Christmas Gathering training on Saturday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church Li-brary. Come and see what hosting a Christmas

Gathering is all about, and if showing hospital-ity is what the Lord may be calling you to do this Christmas.

Give your neighbors, co-workers, bridge club or golf league the GREATEST GIFT this Christ-mas season. Call Nancy Davis for more infor-mation (727.392.5262) or just show up for the training class. You can also check out www.ChristmasGatherings.org for a more in-depth look at the program. Host a Christmas

Gathering, and allow a trained speaker to share the real "Reason for the Season" with your guests.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the following who have lost loved ones

recently: the family and friends of Betty Adams who died September 11, 2016 in Massachusetts; Jim and Lynn Fitzpatrick—their son-in-law, Justin Henson, died recently in Illinois.

We believe that Jesus died and rose again; and so it will be for those who died in Christ. God will raise them to be with the Lord forever. —1 Thessalonians 4:14, 17
