I n the lead up to the drop-in centre andworking directly on the streets to help

change the lives of some of the poorest peo-ple in Manila, Payatas FC and KasiglahanFC are football teams that have been found-ed through us as a way to help and get toknow some of these children. With threemonths training we have been invited totraining sessions with some of the bestcoaches and players in the country and haveseen donations for building football goals.

For me, though, most impressive has beenseeing the improvement of the kids eachweek and the passion they have for football -and how that can be translated into goodvalues and habits. As coach, I entered theminto the Football for Good tournament, or-ganised by Ed Formoso who once ran forPresident of the PFF (Philippine version of the FA) but lost by one vote. So invited to

join we fielded one boys team and a girlsteam, mixed of children from the Payatascommunity, Kasiglahan and Mango TreeHouse, the childrens home of our sister -organisation ASCF.

For the girls, the day was about the experi-ence and playing for the first time on anactual pitch. To see them draw one gameand lose six wasnt quite as disheartening asit might sound as they tried their hardest

and gave everything. The boys were alsoplaying their first competitive games, andagainst stronger, bigger players who havebeen playing together for years, everyonecelebrated as they won their first game 1-0going on to draw two more and win anothergame. We have something to build on and

with the speed theyve been improving Ithink we can prove a real challenge to theopposing teams next time.

The name and concept of Payatas FC hasbeen spreading round the fast-growing foot-ball community in the Philippines. A teamformed of players who live at the biggestdumpsite, whose parents and who them-selves often scavenge off for things to sell, recycle and even eat, Payatas FC have al-ready been filmed by national television fora short clip on their equivalent of Match of

the Day. In just a few months more we arehoping to have the drop-in centre for streetkids in full swing and with a growing repu-tation in the community and a name in thefootball world the charity is growing well.

Football is a game that can help transforma community; people discover themselvesthrough merit, skill and hard-work. Theseare also things that we look to take furthervia the education, nutrition and the socialwork with street kids in the coming months.Coaching teams in Payatas and Kasiglahan

and starting a number of teams in otherpoor areas momentum is buildingas we look to build on this success.Football is growing within thesecommunities not only as a sportbut in promoting a healthy life-styles and providing an accesspoint for the social work to takeplace, facilitating the main work of the charity.

With such a positive outlook eve-ryone involved is enthusiastic and

hopeful of the changes and oppor-tunities that the charity can pro-vide as we look to shift from Fair-play in football to Fairplay for all.

I realised a er the last newsle er that I

have been talking about Triple E doing this

and that and these people and that person,

but I have never actually introduced you to

our team of trustees and eld workers

both here and in the Philippines. Our

chairman of Triple E in the UK is Valerie

Pirie. She is a re red adolescent mentalhealth nurse and has also spent some me

in Uganda teaching English. Our secretary

is David Tomlinson who is a vicar at St

Johns church in the Shildon parish. The treasurer is Davina Tomlinson who is a foster carer

and has been for many years. Trevor Thomson comes from a managerial engineering back-

ground. The h trustee in the UK is Elaine Dixon who brings with her a wealth of experiencefrom the educa onal world.

In the Philippines there is Roy Moore. He is originally from Lancashire and is currently doing a

masters degree in Poli cs in the Philippines. He does a lot of the eld work in Manila and is a

huge asset to the work. Also in the Philippines is Craig Burrows MBE. Craig is the director of the ASCF charity in the Philippines and with over 25 years experience out there working with

chari es, he is a fantas c person to have guiding us. Then

theres me, Naomi Tomlinson. When in the Philippines I work

alongside Roy as a eld worker and in the UK I am the raising

awareness and funds and person! All of us work as volunteers

at present covering our own costs.

There are so many other people involved with the charity that I

cant introduce them all but I feel I have introduced the main

people for now. Of course I haven't forgo en you. You com-

plete our team although that sound s cheesy it is true, withoutyou, there would be no charity and for that we are all forever

grateful, and together we are all changing those lives, thank

    you so much for everything!

    The team!

One in a Hundred update As some of you may remember from the last news-le er, I wrote about our 1 in a 100 campaign. Thepurpose of our 1 in a 100 campaign is to nd 100 people happy to sponsor Triple E 5 a month. Thiswill allow the drop - in centre to run as a long termproject, con nue the football project, and employ asocial worker. We are up to 293 coming in permonth which is fantas c . Please dont feel underpressure but if you are able to support us monthly,no ma er how small the amount, there is a forma ached to this newsle er or you could visit ourwebsite and set up a monthly billing via paypal. It

would really make a world of di erence. Will you be 1 in a 100 ?

Thank you very much to everyone who already supports us, we are so gratefuland it is because of you, this work ispossible.
