Fairhope Alabama Beach Restoration Lots of activity this week on the beaches of Fairhope, AL. Two massive front-end loaders have been feverishly moving tons of sand on the beaches of Fairhope to protect the roads from washing out during future tropical storms. This also keeps renegade wind-blown sand from collecting on nearby roads. "There has been much sand blown up into the park in the last several years," said Jenifer Fidler, director of public works. "We are removing the sand from the park and placing it back along the beach in dunes. These dunes are designed to catch the blown sand". The construction crews will continue to move as much sand as possible while the tourism season is at its slowest. When things pick up for Spring break, a decrease in work will take place due to heavier traffic. According to Fidler, the berm along the North beach on Front road is also being replaced. Funding for these efforts comes from the "beach fund" which could finance the repair and updating of the bathrooms at the park and other updates that need be made. How will this effect us? The duck pond in the rear of the park will be closed Monday through Friday until the project is completed, but will remain open on the weekends according to staff members. The boat ramp near the gate going in to the North Beach Front Park will be removed once the proper permits are obtained.
