FAG Railway Bearings from Ningxia
With approx. 63,000 employees at more than 180 locations worldwide and consolidated
sales of 8.3 billion euros (2006), the Schaeffler Group with its brands INA, LuK and FAG is
a leading global bearing manufacturer and automotive supplier. Its Industrial Division
provides bearing solutions to some 60 different industrial segments via its Production
Machinery, Heavy Industries, Consumer Products and Power Transmission & Railway
business sectors.
An important Schaeffler Group location is FAG Railway Bearing (Ningxia) Co., Ltd.,
located in Yinchuan in the province of Ningxia/China. Here about 500 highly qualified
employees manufacture metric and inch dimension railway axlebox bearings (TAROL units)
of supreme international quality in more than 13,000 square meters of production space.
TAROL bearings are mainly used in locomotives and freight cars. FAG Railway Bearing
(Ningxia) Co., Ltd. also supplies these products to renowned railway system manufac-
turers outside China.
Moreover, the company reconditions used axlebox bearing units, also from various other
manufacturers, which is carried out in a workshop separate from the new bearing pro-
duction. The company’s most important customer is the Chinese Ministry of Railways.

Tapered Roller Bearing Units TAROL
T A R O L U n i t s
TAROL units (Tapered Roller Bearing) are
double row tapered roller bearings that are
supplied with factory-set clearance, greased
and sealed. The TAROL units are thus
supplied ready-to-fit and are pressed onto
the axle journal by means of a hydraulic
device. Individual parts, replacement
parts and housing adapters are available
by agreement.
TAROL units are used for axlebox bearing
arrangements on rail vehicles such as
goods wagons and passenger carriages.
They can be mounted quickly and easily:
The bearing is pressed onto the axle jour-
nal in a single operation and is secured
by means of additional parts and bolts.
Due to the press fit of the unit on an axle
journal of a diameter within the specified
tolerances, the bearing arrangement
achieves the necessary axial clearance.
TAROL units are filled as standard with
greases proven in practice. The greases
in the bearing units of metric dimensions
are certified in accordance with EN 12081.
A relubrication facility can be provided.
Upon request, we can supply TAROL units
with relubrication holes in the end cap or
outer ring. The relubrication holes in the
end caps have a screw plug or a lubrica-
tion nipple. The relubrication intervals are
defined in accordance with the application.
We supply TAROL units in inch dimensions
and metric dimensions for all standardised
axle journals on rail vehicles.

Quality Management and Quality Assurance
All products are manufactured to the highest quality standards and are suitable for the
world market.
Stringent quality standards
The high product quality is assured by strictly following the regulations of the Schaeffler
quality management system. Compliance with all industrial and quality standards in
accordance with ISO 9001 : 2000 has been certified by the German TÜV institute.
Similarly, the AAR (Association of American Railroads) has issued the QS certificate
after auditing the company in 2005. Re-certification was accomplished in 2007.
Full process quality inspections
Quality inspection is performed at each production stage. In addition, sample tests
are carried out before final assembly. The quality assurance equipment and processes
used all conform to Schaeffler Group standards.
Frequent internal and external audits
Regular internal system audits and external audits by certification authorities, as well
as customer audits constantly monitor the quality assurance system.
Well-trained employees
All employees are regularly trained by internal coaches and external institutes.
Reconditioning of Railway Bearings
FAG Railway Bearing (Ningxia) Co., Ltd. has been supplying fully-reconditioned tapered
roller bearing units to the Ministry of Railways (China) for many years. From 2006, the
company also started reconditioning services for imported tapered roller bearing units
at Yinchuan.
The reconditioning process is controlled in accordance with the Schaeffler quality
management system, involving disassembly, cleaning, regrinding of components,
inspection and re-assembly. With well controlled processes, we assure that all products
leaving FAG Railway Bearing (Ningxia) Co., Ltd. are in full accordance with the product
specifications.
