JoshFeldmanistheHeadofFeatureFilmforwriter/producerKenyaBarris’KhalaboInkSociety(“BLACK-ISH”;“GROWN-ISH”;GIRL’STRIP;LITTLE).HerunsfeaturefilmdevelopmentandproductionforallofKhalabo’smovies,workingonbothlove-actionandanimatedfeatures.ThisincludesasequeltoCOMINGTOAMERICA;ananimatedfilmbasedonthemusicofBobMarley;amongothers.PriortojoiningKhalabo,hewastheVPofHasbroStudios,whereheoversawallaspectsofdevelopmentandproductiontotelevisionandmoviesbasedonHasbro’svastIPlibrary.Whilethere,hedevelopedthefilms:OUIJA:ORIGINS;TRANSFORMERS:THELASTNIGHT;andTRRANSFORMERSBUMBLEBEE,amongothers.Healsooversawthedevelopmentofthe‘HasbroUniverse’atParamountwhichwillbringtogetherHasbro’sactionpropertiesinonecollectiveUniverse.In2017,JoshindependentlyproducedthefeatureanimatedadaptationofHasbro’sbiggestgirl’sproperty,MYLITTLEPONY,whichLionsgatereleasedworldwideinOctober2017.Intelevision,JoshproducedaseriesbasedonHasbro’s“STRETCHARMSTRONG”(debutedonNetflixinthefallof2017),Hasbro’s“MICRONAUTS”,aswellasthreeseriesbasedonHasbro’sbiggestboy’sproperty,“TRANSFORMERS”.In2016,hisworkatHasbroleadhimtobenamedbyVarietyMagazineasoneofthe‘NewLeadersinHollywood’.OutsidehisworkatHasbro,Joshhasfoundsuccessasascreenwriter,havingco-writtenonescriptthatappearedonthe2013HollywoodBlacklist,andanotherthatsoldtoCBSFilms.FeldmanalsoteachesfilmdevelopmentinboththeundergraduateandgraduatefilmschoolsatUniversityofCalifornia,LosAngeles,whereheearnedanMFAinProducingin2008.DuringhistimeintheProducingProgramheproducedanEmmy-winningshortfilm,“Lucy:APeriodPiece”,andheisalsoaCumLaudegraduatefromUniversityofCalifornia,SanDiego.Sundayat9:30aminIris:FromIdeatoScreen:FeatureFilmDevelopment101Wheredomoviescomefrom?Howdoideasbecomefilms?Howdobadfilmscomefromgoodideas?Inthislecture,we’lldiscussthenutsandboltsoffeaturefilmdevelopment,examiningthehiddenprocessemployedbyHollywoodstudiostobringideastolife.Mondayat9:30inIris:TheTimesTheyAreaChangin’:TheHistoryofHollywood’sFutureOverthelastdecade,theentertainmentindustryhasundergoneseismicchanges.Adomesticbusinesshasgoneglobal;thebig-screenhasenteredthehome;andsuperheroeshavereplacedmoviestars.ThislecturewilltakealookatthelastdecadeofHollywoodhistoryasalaunchingpadfortalkingaboutHollywood’sfuture.Mondayat2:00pminIris:FacultyLecturerDiscussionTuesdayat9:30aminIris:TheSameButDifferent:TheHiddenStructureofStoriesEverystoryhasabeginning,middle,andanend.Thesethreecomponents,reshuffledendlessly,formthebasisofeverygreatstorytold.Butwhenwetakeacloserlook,webegintodiscovermostgreatstoriesshareevenmoreDNA.Thislecturewillexaminethestorystructureunderlyingmovies,deconstructsomeoftheworld’smostbelovedfilms,anddiscussthebasicelementsneededtousethissimpleformulatocreatesomethingnew.
