Prescription Drugs
Prescription Drugs can be found as a tablet or a pill. It can also be found as a liquid form. Sometimes it can be multi-coloured, which is why it can be called, ‘Candies’.
Types of Prescription Drugs:• Depressants• Opioids & morphine derivatives• Stimulants• Antidepressants
Drug abuse• Abusing prescription drugs can be
worse than using illegal drugs. • It gives a higher chance of getting
an overdose. • Potential abuse of prescription
drugs can be categorized with using cocaine.
• Most of the street drugs today used to be prescription drugs (like heroin and cocaine), but was taken away because of the addictive and harmful results.
• Especially lethal if mixed with alcohol.
• Is legal.• Sometimes cough syrup can be
addictive as well.• Over-counter drugs can also be
abused.
How’s it’s taken
• Usually, it’s taken as a pill, but it can be crushed and snorted.
• Sometimes can be injected by a needle.
• Different sizes/shapes.
• Most think because it’s from a doctor, it’s safe.
Effects
Short term: (i.e. depressants)
• Slow brain function• Confusion• Bad coordination • Slurred speech• Fever• Addiction
Long term: (i.e. depressants)
• Withdrawal • Sleep problems• Breathing problems• Anxiety• Pain
Abusing prescription drugs is dangerous and can be worse than using illegal drugs.
Access
• Majority of teens get prescription drugs from their parents.
• Most steal from medicine cabinet.• Suggested by friends.• 14% of youth on antidepressants are
violent/aggressive.
Why you shouldn’t use this drug
• Prescription drug aren’t safe.• Body chemistry is different.• Specially made for prescribed patient.• Once you get used to certain pills, you’ll want
stronger ones. Hence, the start of addiction.
