Abstract:OntarioShoresisa325-bedTertiaryCareMentalHealthCentreinWhitbyOntario.In

September2008,webegantoprepareourorganizationfortheMEDITECH6.0implementation.

TheprocessofimplementingMEDITECH6.0requiredmanystepsinordertoensureincorporationof

bestpracticesandtherolloutofallmoduleswithintheEHR.Thefirstphaseoftheprojectfocusedon

theorganizationsreadinessandbeganwithprocessmappingandrevisionofclinicaldocumentations

andincorporationofadocumentationmethodology.Theprojectwasthendividedintotwophasesto

ensureforsmoothertransition.

Phase1ofMEDITECH6.0wentliveinOctober2009,whichincludedpharmacy,HIMandbackoffice

suiteofapplications.Thisalsoincluded,thenewpaperMARandorderprocesswhichwastomimicthe

futurestateofMEDITECH6.0.

InMarch2010therolloutofallthenewclinicaldocumentationformsoccurred.Theseformsreflected

thechangesthatweretobeincorporatedinMEDITECH6.0,aswellas,bestpracticestoensure

enhancementofcarewithintheorganization.

October2010wastheimplementationoftheMEDITECH6.0advancedclinicalstoincludeCPOE,

EMAR/BMV,PCS,ITS,lab,andPCMI,II.Thisrequiredintensetrainingofalldisciplines,including

physicians,aswellas,significantsupportduringgo-livetoensuresmoothtransitionfrompapertoEHR.

experiencetoincludeOncology,InpatientMedicineandover10yearsofInformaticsexperience.

Abstract:InSeptemberof2008,OverlakeHospitalbeganthejourneyto6.0.Thejourneywasdivided

upintothreephases.TheinitialphasewasanupgradeofthecurrentFinancial,Administrative,

Pharmacy,andImagingapplications.OrderManagement,Laboratory,EMR,andesignatureofPCM

wereincludedinthisphase,andtheseapplicationswereacompletebuild.WithasuccessfulAugust1,

2010Go-Live,itwasalottocelebrate.TheBARconversionwasanoverwhelmingsuccess.Therewas

betterintegrationbetweenapplications,andtheadditionalbenefitsofimprovedworkflowand

processescontributedtotheorganizationmovingforwardinanticipationofthenextphase,clinical

documentation.But,witheveryimplementation,thereareopportunitiesandlessonslearned.Overlake

Hospitalhasbenefitedgreatlyfromtheselessons,andthispresentationwillprovidesuggestionsandah

registerednursefor25years.After16yearsasaTraumaIntensiveCareRN,Keridecidedtoventureinto

thefieldofInformatics.In1994,shebeganaparttimeInformaticsposition,supportinganelectronic

documentationsystemintheCriticalCare.Shewasunsureifshewouldbeabletoworkwithcomputers,
