Council introductionsWhat have you done to begin pursuing your two ideas from the last workshop?

4Review of the Year-Long Council ProgramUsing futures as an innovation toolWorkshops on one another will build over the year6WorkshopWorkshop objective1. Sustainability Megatrends Changing RetailDefine the most major changes occurring in retail and your function2. Innovation is RequiredIdentify innovations relevant to your function3. Making it WorkDevelop a plan to begin implementing4. Taking Innovation to Your DepartmentsProvide tools and action plans to promote this process in your departmentsOutcome: Capacity for our organizations to prepare and adapt to changes in the industryTODAYFacilitator notes: This year-long workshop program is a facilitated innovation process that leverages tools developed by RILA, our industry association. The objective is to open a space for innovation (Workshop 1), then provide a structured process to identify innovations (Workshop 2) and plan roll-outs for those innovations (Workshop 3). It will leverage your specific business expertise and will conclude with tools that can be brought to your teams.

There are two options for the focus of Workshops 2 and 3. Select the option most relevant to your objectives and the Councils interests:Option 1: Identify innovations relevant to your business function. Each Council member will generate two business ideas that are specifically targeted at their business function, or their area of expertise.Option 2: Identify enterprise-wide innovations. The Council will brainstorm two business ideas that leverage their collective expertise and influence. Examples include new services (e.g. product take-back, repair), new products (e.g. a line of health & wellness products), new brand marketing platforms, or more.6Review of Previous WorkshopsWe systematically generated new business innovations through a 3-step process123Discussion: Capacity for your organizations to prepare and adapt to changes in the industryFacilitator notes: (5 min) Review the previous three workshops objectives and outcomes. Explain that the workshops were facilitated processes for the Council to be more innovative, and that for the company to be successful into the future, it needs a culture of innovation. In this meeting, we will develop a process for each of the departments for which the Council members have oversight to become more innovative.8Discuss feedbackHow has the program helped you think differently about your role?

What did you like about the program? Dislike?

What would you do differently if you were to run this program with your own team?

Facilitator notes: (10 min) Discuss what worked and what did not in the past three sessions. Use this to strengthen your program for next year and to report learnings to RILA. This can also be an opportunity to build buy-in with Council members for them to host innovation programs with their own departments.9
