Welcome to St. Bernard’s Parish
Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 1, 2018
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Expressing our love of Jesus Christ through the Eucharist, enlightened by the Holy
Spirit, and by living the will of the Father, we gather as one family, rich in culture and
tradition, willing to share our gifts with all, and working together as we journey to the
kingdom of God.

Dear Parishioners,
On this day of our Lord’s glorious Resurrection,
may the Spirit of the Risen Christ always live with-
in you, and may you always have the gift of Love,
the blessing of Hope, and the promise of Peace.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. David Dutra, Priests, Dea-
cons,
Sisters, and Staff of St. Bernard’s
Parish
WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED
Question: What is the most important holiday on the Catholic calendar?
Answer: In our daily life, we often refer to "holidays." The word "holiday" ac-tually comes from the word "holy day." More than a simple celebration or family gathering, these days connect us to God in a unique way. We remember - and share in - the events in God's plan of salvation. Some feasts may be celebrated with more traditions and secular attention, like Christmas, but the most important holy day is Easter. When Jesus died and rose again, he destroyed the ultimate weapon of sin and made it possible for us to have eternal life with him in Heaven. Without the resurrection, St. Paul tells us, our faith is in vain. This past Holy Week, we walked through the Paschal Mystery, the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. Easter is commemorated each time we celebrate the Mass. As St. John Paul II said, "we are an Easter people and alle-luia is our song!" Jesus was born for Easter. Our joyful celebration of the resurrection is at the core of what it means to be a Christian!

God’s Word Calls Us to Pray
One key reason to pray is because God has command-ed us to pray. If we are to be obedient to HIS will, then prayer must be part of our life in HIM. All Children who are in Religious Education classes
are required to know their prayers. Please help your
child by praying the basic prayers every night:
The Sign of the Cross, The Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, Doxology, and the Act of Contrition.

SBYG Mission Statement
We are a family of young Catholics committed to the goal of living out the call of the Gospel through fellow-ship, prayer, and service in a constant effort to become the young men and women God created each one to be. Members of the group strive to know Christ more intimately, to understand His constant love for them, and to share it with those around them.
Help a Teen go to Retreat with your Sponsorship: Our Summer and Winter Retreats have been a crucial tool for the spiritual growth of our teens. Many of them would like to attend but are financially unable; but with your help, we can make these opportunities possible for them. Please consider giving a donation that would help students reach this goal. Whatever your possibilities are, help make a difference in our teens’ lives.
Warriors for Christ ~Young Adult Group~
Warriors for Christ is a group of young Catholics, 18 years & up, devoted to the work of God and His Church. We strive to lift each other up in our spiritual faith as Christians. Our focus is to provide charitable service to those in need in
our community & to petition God for His continual help and guidance. (We meet on Wednesdays at Holy Family Center at 7:30 p.m.)

when you see someone looking for a place to sit or invite
them into the pew…. they will be most grateful to have a
seat during Mass!

Safety in the Lord
Please Note: There are Religious Education Classes going on in the early evening on Tuesdays. As our Parish Community continues to grow, so do our activi-ties and therefore the parking lot fills up even more with cars from our participants. In order to ensure the safety of our students dur-ing drop off and dismissal, we aske everyone to please refrain from parking alongside the School. Cars parked there disrupt the dismissal process and endanger the safety of the students. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

LIVE THE LITURGY INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Christ is risen indeed! We have ar-rived at the penultimate feast on the Church's calendar, the cause of our joy and our hope. Life has defeated death. Sorrow and suffering do not have the last say. In the resurrection of Jesus we see many reasons to rejoice. Not only has Jesus conquered the specter of visible death, but he restores to us graced life. On Holy Saturday, Jesus descended to the dead and delivered the just souls into heavenly paradise. What are our own Saturday tombs? Jesus has the power to open them all. That is our invitation, this day most of all. May resurrection joy fill your heart, your family, your workplace, and your com-munity. Happy Easter!

CREATING A CULTURE OF PROTECTION
CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
APRIL 2018
Did you know? The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People was established by the USCCB in June 2002. It is a comprehensive set of procedures for addressing allega-tions of abuse of minors. The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People includes guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse.
We are Called
The Church is the Body of Christ. All members of the Church are linked to one another. We all have a responsibility to ensure the safety of children in our parishes, schools, families, and local communities.
HERE ARE FIVE WAYS YOU CAN
HELP KEEP CHILDREN SAFE:
1. Develop appropriate and loving relation-ships with your children.
2. Teach your children safety and healthy boundaries.
3. Know who had access to your children. 4. Learn the warning signs of abuse. 5. Report abuse to appropriate authorities.
