    INTRODUCTION

IMPORTANT OWNER INFORMATIONRead this manual before attempting to assemble, install, operate, or maintain your Peragon cover. Failure to fol-low instructions may result in personal injury, death and/or property damage.

Your Peragon cover is for inanimate cargo only. Never transport any person or animal in the pickup bed. No one should sit, stand, or lie on or under the cover. Never haul anything on the cover. Do not set any object that could damage the finish or weighing more than 50 pounds on the cover.

Secure cargo to prevent shifting, or it may damage your Peragon cover and/or the cargo. Never use any part of your Peragon cover to secure cargo.

Your Peragon cover is not waterproof. Remove items that may be damaged by water before a car wash or inclem-ent weather. Peragon is not responsible for water dam-age to cargo.

Your Peragon cover may deter theft. However, it is not a guarantee against theft.

If the cover does not operate smoothly, NEVER force it. During the one to two-week break-in period, it is normal for the operation of the cover to be a little stiff. Use spray silicone lubricant on the hinge points for smoother, qui-eter operation. Wipe off excess. NEVER lubricate the rails. If the operation is excessively stiff, contact cus-tomer support.

If your cover is frozen, gently tap around the edges to break up the ice and allow the cover to open.

Routine Care & MaintenanceVibration from transport may loosen bolts. Every month inspect and tighten all bolts on the cover and mounting brackets.

Finish damage caused by chemicals or other environ-mental conditions is not covered by warranty. Clean your cover with a mild soap and water solution. Use care to avoid getting wax on the seals. Wax will discolor the seals.

Scratch RepairIf your cover is scratched, use touch-up paint to prevent flaking around the scratch. • For Classic Black: Dupli-Color Universal Black All-in-1. • For Arctic White: Dupli-Color Universal White All-in-1. • For Paint Match: check with your local dealer or auto

    parts store.

Contact Customer Support• (877) 473-7246 ext. 2• [email protected] peragon.com/support for current phone support hours.

SAFETYWe have designed your Peragon truck bed cover to be user-friendly and safe. Use the cover only as intended. Unintended use may result in personal injury or death.

IMPORTANT: These instructions describe safe operating proce-dures. If you install this cover for another person, make sure the new owner reads these instructionsbefore using the cover.

IMPORTANT: Some automotive waxes, polishing compounds, andcleaners contain solvents that are designed to softenand remove small amounts of clear coat finish, inorder to remove scratches. These solvents mayremove the powder coat from your Peragon cover. Besure to use only solvent-free products.

    WARNING

Never stand, sit, or lie on yourtruck bed cover.

BEFORE YOU BEGINPlan Your InstallationReview the entire manual before starting. Follow all steps exactly or the cover will not work properly.

Feel free to call customer support to discuss the installa-tion before you begin. We can review the instructions with you in around 30 minutes.

    Tools Required

VideosBefore starting the installation, review our installation videos at peragon.com/support/installation-videos.

Each section of this installation manual lists a corre-sponding video, if applicable. The installation videos are NOT intended to replace this manual.

Inspect Your ShipmentYour cover ships in two boxes that may arrive a day or two apart. Inspect all parts for damage. Contact Peragon immediately if you find damage. We will ship a replace-ment part at no cost to you.

    Packaging Materials

We recommend folding down the sides of the box to expose the panel assembly, rather than sliding it from the box. Leave the panel assembly as it arrived in the box.

Bed Liners & Rail Protectors Spray-in liners and Bed Rugs are fully compatible. Over-the-rail plastic liners that wrap over the sides of the truck bed may not be compatible or may require extensive modification. Most under-the-rail bed liners DO NOT require modification. In rare occasions, if a liner does not fit snugly, a lot of space exists between the liner and the truck bed, or liners in compact trucks may require modi-fication in front of the wheel wells to allow adequate clearance for parts of the Peragon system.

Factory Installed or aftermarket plastic bed rail protec-tors are compatible with the Peragon cover. Do not remove them. In most cases you will not need to cut them. The Peragon rails will sit on top of your bed rail protectors.

If you believe you must alter the bed rail protectors in any way, please contact us. We can help determine if there’s a way around it.

    WARNING

Unsecured objects may fly fromyour vehicle and injure or kill othermotorists.

Make sure your truck bed cover and all items in yourtruck bed are secured before driving. Secure allcargo to proper tie-down points with appropriatehardware. Do not secure cargo to your truck bedcover.

    INTRODUCTIONHOW IT WORKS

    Figure 1: How it works

Short and Long BearingsThe retractable cover panels (A) rest on the rails (B) with two types of bearings: Long bearings (C) & Short bearings (D).

When the cover is closed, both the long and short bearings rest on the rails. When the cover is open, the short bearings hang down in the bed and the long bearings support the panel assembly.

    INTRODUCTIONCover RetractionFigure 2: Cover closed

When the cover is fully closed, the first panel behind the cab (E) is held in the up position by two gas springs. To begin the retraction process, push down on the hinge between the first and second panel (F). The panels will fold together as you compress the gas springs. Gently guide the remaining panels forward. The long bearings will ride forward along the rails.

    Figure 3: Cover open

The short bearings (G) will descend through the rail notch (H). The short bearings will then ride down the ramp (I) until each panel is folded. When fully retracted, the panels will all hang from the rails on the long bearings (J).

Cover ExtensionTo extend the cover to the closed position, pull on the strap slowly toward the tailgate. The short bearings will ride up the ramp until they are on the rails. To complete the extension process, the gas springs will push the first panel behind the cab into the up position.

    TESTING OPERATION

Before attaching the gas springs, make sure the cover is operating well. Pull on the nylon strap to see if the cover extends properly. Make sure the cover moves in the rails with no metal-on-metal binding.

Slide the cover back and forth to ensure proper installa-tion and movement. If excessive force is required, check to make sure that:• Rails are centered.• Rails are level. Rails must be parallel to the tailgate.• Rails are pulled in to contact the bearings near the

    tailgate.

The cover will not extend completely flat until the gas springs are installed. If everything is installed correctly, the cover should move smoothly. If there is binding or if the cover is catching on something, check your work.

Keep in mind that the rubber seals cause some resistance for the first week or so. These seals may make the cover more difficult to move at first. After the cover is broken in, it should operate smoothly, with no binding.

If it does not operate well, contact customer support or follow the troubleshooting steps found here: peragon.com/support/rough-operation

    GAS SPRING INSTALLATION

    Figure 33: Gas spring installation

    1. Compress each spring several times before installa-tion to loosen its movement.

    2. Position each gas spring with the rod end (A) toward the tailgate.

    3. Snap the springs onto the ball studs on the ramps (B).

    4. Then snap the gas springs onto the ball studs on the panels (C).

    OWNERSHIP & OPERATION

    Figure 36: Cover operation

CLOSING AND OPENING THE COVERTo close the cover, pull the strap toward the tailgate. Locking the cover is optional because the gas springs will hold the cover closed.

To open the cover, push down on the seam between the first and second panels behind the cab (A). Push down a few inches past the lock. Grasp the last panel with your hand and guide the cover into the folded position.

At first, the operation will be tight while the various parts break in.

NOTE: The gas springs may not push the first two panels up all the way until the seals have been compressed for a while. At first, the seal pressure may also cause the panels to be slightly uneven when closing.

NOTE: A car wash dryer may push an unlocked cover open. Lock the cover before a car wash.

NOTICE: A snow load bouncing on the cover can cause damage. Brush off snow before driving.

TRAVELING WITH THE COVER OPENTo travel with the cover secured in the open position, simply loop the pull strap around the folded panels and tie it off. Leave some slack so the panels do not press against each other, which could damage the finish. Secure the end of the strap before driving. Secure your cargo clear of your Peragon cover.

    COVER QUICK RELEASE

The panels can be removed to use the full length of your truck bed.1. Fold the cover open.2. Remove the gas springs by flipping the silver levers on the end fittings to the center position and pulling the spring

off the ball studs. See “Gas Spring Installation” on page 21.3. Depress the quick release spring clip on the passenger side front corner to detach the cover from the frame.4. Swing the passenger side of the folded cover toward the tailgate until driver side also swings out of the rails.

See “Installing Panels into Rails” on page 16.

ROUTINE CAREAfter installing your cover, check all bolts and nuts regularly to ensure that they remain secure. For the first month, per-form a weekly check. After the first month, perform monthly inspections for as long as the cover is on the truck.

    THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING PERAGON!

    Dear Customer:

Congratulations on your purchase of a Peragon cover! This product has been engineered to provide

you with years of reliable use and convenience. While we have made every effort to ensure that your

ownership experience will be trouble free, we encourage you to let us know if you experience any diffi-

culty. Your satisfaction is our priority, and your feedback allows us to improve our products and ser-

    vice.

As an owner of a Peragon cover you have become part of a dream that began in 1999 when we sat

down with a blank sheet of paper and started to sketch out a design for what is now the best truck bed

cover available. Bringing Peragon from a dream to reality has been a challenge, but we haven’t worked

    alone.

From the very beginning, we have been determined to make God our Senior Partner. In a crisis, the

problem is turned over to Him, and He has never failed to help us with the answer. Each bed cover that

we produce must reflect the integrity of management, including our Senior Partner. If sometimes we

fail because we are human, we find it imperative to do our utmost to make it right. In addition to being

Senior Partner, He is also our Heavenly Father and it is a great blessing to us to have this security in

these troubled times. If you are troubled or perplexed and looking for answers, may we invite you to

look to Him, for God loves you. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that who-

soever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

We take great pride in every Peragon cover that leaves our plant. Thank you for being a part of our

    dream!

    Sincerely,

    Heath Copp

Use a tape measure to center the front ends of the rails from side to side (D). Measure from the inside lip of the truck bed to the inside edge of the t-slot (E) on each side.6. Check to make sure the rails are 3/16” from the tailgate and centered side to side in the bed.7. Tighten the nuts on the two cab-side Quick Clamps only. Do not overtighten.Preparing the Panel AssemblyInstalling Gas Spring Brackets1. Position the gas spring bracket as shown. The ball stud should face outward (B).2. Tighten the lower screw before inserting the upper screw. Tighten until snug. Do NOT over-tighten.3. Repeat on opposite side.Installing Rubber Bumpers

    1. Insert rubber bumpers (C) into the top of the panels. There are two holes in every other panel. Twist bumpers back and forth while pressing down to make sure the tips mushroom out completely on the undersides of the panels.2. Remove the protective packaging between the panels.

    Installing Panels into Rails

Figure 19: Installing panel assembly, driver side1. Wrap the pull strap around the panels to hold them together while you move them into place. Tie off the strap so it is snug but not so tight that the panels bow and rub together.2. Position the folded panel assembly in the bed of the truck. The lock should be toward the cab. The long bearings should be up.3. Place the long bearings into the driver side rail (A).4. Insert the pin on the first panel (B) into corner bracket (C).5. Verify the pin is in the bracket (D).CONTINUED ON THE NEXT PAGE...

Figure 22: Installing panel assembly, passenger side6. Swing the passenger side of the panel assembly toward the cab. Place the long bearings into the passenger side rail (E).7. Push the panel assembly toward the cab until the pin on the first panel (F) clicks into the corner bracket (G). You may need to push fairly hard to get the pin into the bracket.8. Look closely to make sure the pin is in the hole (H).Adjusting Ramp Assemblies1. Make sure the rails are the same width at the cab and the tailgate. Measure between the inside edge of each rail by the cab (B) and by the tailgate (C). Do not tighten rails to the tailgate clamps as this will be done in a later step.2. Turn the ramp adjustment bolts (D) until the ramps are approximately perpendicular to the truck bed floor.3. Gently slide the panels toward the tailgate until the short bearings (G) contact the ramps (H).4. Turn the ramp adjustment bolts to adjust the ramps inward or outward.5. Make sure the bearings make full contact with the ramps. Make sure the ramps are not set so far inward that they contact the panels as the bearings move up the ramp.6. Move the bearings slowly up and down the ramps to make sure the ramps are properly adjusted.7. Leave the jam nuts lose. They will be tightened to secure the adjustment bolts in a later step.

Rail Alignment1. If quick clamps must be adjusted to achieve proper vertical spacing, loosen mounting bolts and move up or down as needed. Tighten the bolts when spacing is correct. Make sure the center mounting point does not cause a bow in the rail.2. Slowly pull the cover closed.

Figure 30:4. Use a tape measure to center the rails from side to side (D) at the tailgate end. Measure from the inside lip of the truck bed to the inside edge of the t-slot (E) on each side. Make sure the measurement is the same on each side.5. When the spacing is correct, partially tighten the nuts to allow only limited movement. You should be able to feel resistance when moving the rails.

Figure 31: Level rails6. Make sure the rails are parallel to the tailgate (F). Rails must be level.7. When all adjustments are complete, tighten rails to Quick Clamps.NOTE: The top of the rails should overhang the tailgate.

    8. Inspect both rail seals. The seals should rest gently on top of bed rails. Make sure the seals are flared outward. If a seal is curled under itself, slide a credit card or other thin, non-abrasive item under the seal to work it outward.Final Ramp AdjustmentTesting OperationGas Spring Installation1. Compress each spring several times before installation to loosen its movement.2. Position each gas spring with the rod end (A) toward the tailgate.3. Snap the springs onto the ball studs on the ramps (B).4. Then snap the gas springs onto the ball studs on the panels (C).CONTINUED ON THE NEXT PAGE...NOTE: If you need to remove the gas springs, move the silver lever to the center position (D) and pull the spring from the ball stud.
