FORMULA ONEGeneral Facts• Formula One racing began in

the year 1950

• Formula One is considered the highest class of single seater auto racing

• Formula One cars are considered the fastest circuit cars in the world because of being able to reach speeds like 340 km/h

FIA World Drivers Championship

• The Formula One World Drivers Championship has twenty four drivers divided into twelve teams

• This championship is an individual competition

• The driver with the most quantity of points gathered in all races is the champion

FIA Constructors Championship

• The Constructors Championship has the same punctuation system as the World Drivers Championship.

• In difference to the Drivers Championship, the Constructors is a team championship in which both of the racers in the team give points for their racing team.

Regulations (Flags)• Checkered flag: Indicates that the race or a qualifying session ended

• Red flag: Indicates that the race or qualification session must stop because of an accident or for meteorological reasons.

• Yellow flag: Indicates that there is danger on the track (in an edge of it, and completely or partially blocking it).

• Yellow flag and Safety Car signal: The safety car is intervening the track, which means that the drivers must slow down and evade overtakings.

• Black flag: Indicates that a driver has been disqualified from the race.

• Black and white flag: Indicated when a driver performs a dangerous maneuver, when repeated, the driver receives the black flag

Regulations (Penalties)• Drive through penalty: Requires the driver to enter the pit lane, and drive through

it obeying its speed without making a stop. Are imposed for minor offences.

• Ten second penalty: The driver must enter the pit lane and stop there for ten seconds. Imposed for more serious offences.

• A more extreme penalty may be imposed because of more severe infractions; adding ten places to the driver´s grid position

• The black flag is one of the most severe penalties that may be imposed, this means that the driver is disqualified of the race, and that the results from that race don´t count for the drivers championship. If the black flag is not considered sufficient, then the penalty of being excluded of a number of races may be imposed.

• The most severe penalty of all, which is imposed only when a driver´s life is threatened, is to be excluded for that year´s World Drivers Championship.

Best Formula 1 Races in 2012• At 2012 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the

Mexican Sergio Perez achieved the podium for the first time in his career, behind, Fernando Alonso and in front of Lewis Hamilton

• In 2012, at the Circuit de Catalunya, the venezolan Pastor Maldonado performed the best race in his career, and as a result, he claimed the pole position due to a penalty imposed to Lewis Hamilton, and the victory in the race, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.

• The European Grand Prix hosted in Valencia, was one of the best rated races of the season. Sebatian Vettel of Red Bull claimed the pole, but middle way through the race, his car tested problems and he retired from the race. Meanwhile, the Spaniard Fernando Alonso, who started eleventh won the race, and the Australian Mark Webber who started ninteenth finished fouth.
