EUCHARISTIC ADORATION "Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the most tender of

friends with souls who seek to please Him. His goodness knows how to propor on itself to the smallest of His

creatures as to the greatest of them. Be not afraid then in your solitary conversa ons, to tell Him of your miser-ies, fears, worries, of those who are dear to you, of your projects, and of your hopes. Do so with confidence and

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 23, 2018

Dear Parishioners,

It’s always Christmas at Holy Infant! Our parish is named for the Holy Infant born in Bethlehem! The first Mass at Holy Infant was celebrated on Septem-ber 19, 1954 in temporary quarters in the Ellisville Ath-le c Building on Clarkson Road just north of Manches-ter Road. Our first parish roster consisted of just 111 families. In May of 1956, the first Mass was celebrated in the unfinished church basement on our current cam-pus.

We are invited throughout the Christmas season to look at where our God is laying: in a manger, or to be more precise, a feeding trough, a place animals come to feed themselves. It may sound crude, but our God is making Himself food for His people. Our humble Savior quite literally becomes the feed by which we gain our spiritu-al sustenance. And that is what we do at Mass. We nourish ourselves on Jesus who con nues to come to us in the Eucharist, under the form of bread and wine.

Everyone who a ends Mass regularly is aware of the fact that church a endance swells at Christmas then subsides a erwards. Imagine if the popula on at our holiday liturgies would be the norma ve for Sunday Masses throughout the year. There are many of our fel-low Catholics – in our families and among our friends in the parish – who have fallen out of regular a endance at Mass. I cannot help but think they have a spiritual malnourishment. Even though they may say they’re fine in their rela onship with God by not going to church, they are deprived of the grace that comes from experi-encing Christ through the community united in prayer. Without this Eucharis c food from heaven, they are starving themselves.

Why would we allow them to con nue going hungry? Shouldn’t we each do something about this? As a parish family, we try to cul vate a Catholic worship communi-

ty where parishioners and school families are invited to grow more deeply in their faith.

Might you be the angel that announces to these missing numbers the good news about worship at Holy Infant? Could you be the star that guides them to church next Sunday? We must evangelize and make the some mes difficult steps to coax our absent brothers and sisters gently back into the fold. Eventually, the first families of Holy Infant outgrew their small church because a bigger table was needed to seat everyone.

Today, as we reflect on the blessing of the Holy Infant, we are reminded of our community’s origins and the food that has kept us well fed all these years. Can you do your part to bring others to the table?

Come! Let us feast on our Lord, today and every day!

A blessed Christmas to you and yours!

“For behold, when the voice of your gree ng came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy.” LUKE 1:44

When you hear the scripture readings and Gospel reading each Sunday, do you “leap for joy?” If not, don’t blame the lecturer or priest, rather look inside yourself. Do you prepare for Mass each week or do you just show up and expect to be entertained? We are called to be ac ve par cipants, not pas-sive by-standers.

In this season of Advent, we are continuously preparing ourselves for the celebration of Christ's birth. Why not help our

own parish prepare for the coming new year by signing up with Faith Direct? By supporting Holy Infant, both you and our parish can save some time and peace of mind this holi-day season. Signing up is easy! Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code: MO31.

Already using Faith Direct? Log in to add your Christmas or End-of-Year contributions to your account. Thank you for your continued support of our parish family!

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 23, 2018

An Update from Deacon Stephen: Hello Holy Infant! I’ve been well over here in Rome. Very busy for a couple weeks right before Thanksgiving, but it's se ling downnow before Christmas. We don't have exams ll February, so the Christmas break is actually quite relaxing. I'll be home for Christmas, serving at Mary, Queen of Peace in Webster Groves.

Classes have been fine. I'm studying Biblical Theology at Gregorian University (the Jesuit school in Rome). The program will take two years, in which me I'll study Greek and Hebrew as well as the Old and New Testaments in closer detail. We have very good professors over here, and I'm also surrounded by a lot of very bright students, which makes the discussion quite engaging. I've also had the op-portunity in recent weeks to a end a couple conferences here in Rome, with lec-tures by some leading thinkers (like Dr. Edward Feser in Philosophy and Dr. Sam-uel Gregg in Poli cal Philosophy).

My classmates were ordained deacons in September (except for a couple of us who had already been ordained in the spring, like I was). Since I was already a deacon, I was one of the ones chosen to serve at the ordina on Mass in Saint

Peter's. I got to chant the Gospel at the Altar of the Chair! It was really neat, and a great honor to serve. (see photo)

We have our formal evalua ons coming up in the next couple weeks, which is one of the last things to be com-pleted before I am called to priestly orders in the spring. It's coming up fast! My an cipated date for ordina on would be the Archdiocese's usual date of the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (this year it's May 25th). I have-n't been called to orders yet, so it is not official, but that's the general meline.

I also got to meet with Father Stanger briefly while he was here in Rome. It sounds like everything is well at Ho-ly Infant! I hope you are all well. And I remain your de-voted brother, in Christ, Deacon Stephen

Fr. Foy is taking a pil-grimage to the Holy

Land from November 9-21, 2019. Please consider joining him to see where Christ was born, where He lived, where He died and where He rose from the dead. He will have an informa on mee ng on January 27th at 4 pm in the Upper Cafeteria. He’ll bring the olives and wine! Ques ons? Contact Father Foy at father [email protected] or (636) 583-2488. Thank you!

Seniors, let’s get 2019 off to a great start by coming to the first meeting of 2019 on Thursday, January 3rd at 10 a.m. in the Lower Cafeteria. A Community Op-tions Specialist is coming from Aging Ahead to give an overview of services offered by the non-for-profit agency. Come and learn of numerous resources available in the community!

It is not too late to join the Seniors if you are over 55 and a member of Holy Infant. There are still 6 months of fun activi-ties planned. So, bring a check, payable to HIS for $10 to the meeting. Plan to arrive early to get registered.

A Blessed Prayer Shawl is Perfect for Many Occasions Please consider giving a Blessed Prayer Shawl for the following occasions:

Giving a Prayer Shawl is all about sharing God's love with others. So how about giving a Prayer Shawl to someone who needs to feel wrapped in God's love? It can be for an adult, a child or even an infant. In this season of God's love, share His love by giving a blessed Prayer Shawl, which was prayerfully made by a caring parishioner! There is no fee, but yarn or dona ons are welcome! Prayer Shawls can be found in the Adora on Chapel 24/7; the usher's closet dur-ing the weekend Masses or at the parish office during office hours.
