When the builders laid the
foundation of the temple of the
LORD, the priests in their
vestments and with trumpets,
and the Levites (the sons of
Asaph) with cymbals, took their
places to praise the LORD, as
prescribed by David king of
Israel. With praise and thanksgiv-
ing they sang to the LORD: "He is
good; his love to Israel endures
forever." And all the people
gave a great shout of praise to
the LORD, because the founda-
tion of the house of the LORD
was laid. But many of the older
priests and Levites and family
heads, who had seen the former
temple, wept aloud when they
saw the foundation of this
temple being laid, while many
others shouted for joy. No one
could distinguish the sound of
the shouts of joy from the sound
of weeping, because the
people made so much noise.
And the sound was heard far
away.

Crossroads is partnering with LifeTouch to produce a new print and online
pictorial directory of our church family. Sign ups are open now for photo
sessions Nov. 5th and 6th at the church. Dress as formally or casually as you
like and feel free to bring special mementos to personalize your photo, bring
your extended family, you can even bring the family pet! Sessions are no
cost and every family receives a free directory and an 8x10 print. LifeTouch
will offer packages for sale in time for Christmas delivery, but we guarantee
zero pressure will be put on your family to purchase. Our goal is to get every
member in the directory, because when you
participate, you enable our church family to
get to know one another better and you make
it easier for new people to engage in the
church. Help us get the "whole picture" of
Crossroads--sign up today and participate!
There will be sign-up sheets available at
church for the next few Sundays or you can set
up your session online from our website or visit
our sign-up site here: Crossroads Photos
Many of the Jews were forced into Exile after the Babylonian conquest. The
city of Jerusalem was destroyed along with the temple. It must have
looked like and felt like their faith, culture, and livelihoods had been totally
wiped out. They were in danger of being wiped out as a unique people.
Fortunately, the Babylonians, and later Medes and Persians, allowed the
Jews in Babylon to set up their own towns and political structures – as long
as they did not conflict with or interfere with the laws of the empire. This
allowed the Jews to retain their culture and faith, and even to prosper in
exile.
The Persians conquered the Babylonians, and Cyrus, king of the Persians,
allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem and Judea. Not all the Jews
returned to Jerusalem. Many stayed in Mesopotamia in the towns and
villages they had created. Eventually this community in Babylon had
extensive influence over the Jewish world. The fate of the Jews in Babylon
was very different from those in Palestine. The Jews in Babylon managed to
remain at peace with the ruling powers in their area, where as the Jews in
and around Jerusalem were in constant conflict with dominant powers of
the Mediterranean area. The community in Babylon continued to exist and
thrive for centuries, while Jerusalem, along with the temple, was wiped out
again in 70 CE by the Romans, and all the Jews were driven, once again,
from Judea.
Pastor Sid Robbins has begun a new

This week’s topic is our new worship
service “The Light” and describes the

“The Light” is Crossroads’ new worship
experience. Our aim is to mix extraordinary
creativity with sound biblical teaching to
express the gospel of Jesus Christ in a
meaningful, fresh, thought-provoking way.
It is an exploration of faith in the safe setting
of loving family and friends. We hope you
will join us. Bring your questions, bring your
poetry, paints and play dough. Let’s shine
the light of Christ on a hurting, broken
world.
Whether you choose to worship at 10:00 or
at the new 11:30 time, please pray that we
may all serve the Lord by reaching out to
tell others of God’s great love for all his
children.
Please email your meeting/event date & time to the office for inclusion in this calendar. [email protected]
Dress up the kids in costume and head out to Memorial Park for some
pre-trick or treating fun at the Pumpkin Palooza on Sat., Oct. 27, from 6-8pm,
in Memorial Park, 602 Maurer Parkway. The event will offer FREE “treats,”
music, games, hay ride, and more. Besides free fun for the family, the event
also provides a great opportunity for local businesses and organizations like
Crossroads to be part of the Trunk ‘r Treat. More than 2,000 are expected to
attend this year and that means lots of “treats” to handout.
We plan to distribute information about our worship services and Kids First
Preschool and Daycare and are requesting donations of candy from you.
Please place your donations on the table next to the book table this Sunday.
Thanks for your help with this community outreach event!
