Archer Guys and Girls Qualify for State! The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare. Thats the quote that was on the back of

every Archer cross country shirt given out this year. The quote at the time didnt mean anything to any of the runners, at the beginning of the season, but as the summer days went on and the hard work went in the runners learned that the quote was perfect for their season. Without hard work, there was no way the boys or girls team could make it to state. Both boys and girls used the quote as a guide as the season wore on, and all their hard work came down to one race, Region.

In order to qualify for state, both teams had to place in the top four at region. The task was definitely doable, but it was not going to be easy; every runner had to give their best efforts in order to qualify for

state. The top two spots in region were pretty much already a lock with number one being Brookwood and number two being Parkview, so spots three through six were a tossup between Archer, Grayson, Central, and Dacula. Four teams and only two spots.

Both Coach Carlyle and Johnson were nervous right before the gun went off and the race began. They knew that their group of runners had worked really hard this summer and deserved to go to state. So the girls and boys races both passed and the coaches were not sure whether or not we had qualified for state.

All the runners were hanging around the team tent when Coach Carlyle and Coach Johnson ran towards them smiling, and Coach Carlyle was holding up the number three. Both girls and boys had done it; they both placed third and qualified for state. All the hard work, all the sweat and tears, all the sore legs, had paid off: Archer boys and girls cross country teams qualified for state!

Playoff BoundAs we know our Tigers have played a tough season so far and have fought to be in the spot they are in now. As weve all heard, Archer is the youngest school in its region to be in state playoffs this quickly. The school has shocked the county after coming off of a 2-8 season last year to a state run this year. The team has been by led by its senior quarterback Jarvis Holley, GA Southern-bound Jermaine Morris and many other key players. Weve done a great job. says head Coach Andy Dyer. Im extremely proud of my boys and we just have to take it one step at a time to achieve what weve been working for. The Tigers will be facing the North Gwinnett Bulldogs in hope of upsetting them to move closer to their state hopes.

We have close to 60 swimmers now. The teams first meet is on Saturday against North Gwinnett.

  • The Pride of Archer

    Archie The Tiger

Joey Peterka 13Editor-in-Chief Joey Peterka 13Editor-in-Chief

Archer Marching Band has come a long way since our inaugural year back in 2009. 2010-2011 Drum Major Brady Hammond left a solid foundation for the Pride of Archer, which showed as this years drum major Andrew Joyce was able to take Bradys legacy and make the Marching Band a success. Since the beginning of the summer our marching band has worked hard and it has paid off. This year they competed at the Southern Star Invitational at South Gwinnett High School and The Pride of Archer took first place as overall grand champions. Not only did they claim the highest title, but they were also award-ed first place for best drum major. We couldnt ask for more: we swept the rest of the competition off their feet by having a first place Color Guard.

Our marching band also competed in the Rockdale County Invitational. The Pride of Archer placed in the top 3 and was awarded 1st place percussion. According to Andrew Joyce, now that the football sea-son is coming to a close, our color guard is going to be competing in Winter Guard competitions. It has been proven that The Pride of Archer has not let the rest of their Tiger pack down.

Archie the Tiger, Archers adored mascot, has been on the prowl since 2009. You can find him on and off the field of Archer Community Stadium during football season and the Archer Coliseum during basketball season. The Eye of the Tiger newspaper staff had the opportunity to get an inside scoop with Archie as he answered some questions for us.

    What is your main diet?

Mostly Falcons, Rams, and especially Bulldogs this week, and every now and then I try and get some Black Knights in there, mainly so I can use their swords to pick out the leftover Bears in my teeth.

How does Archie the Tiger train?

I run 27 miles every day! Its pretty hard to keep up with our stellar cross country team. I do 600 push-

ups and I give out lots of hugs.

    What is your all-star specialty?

Taking pictures with people dancing, for sure.

What is your favorite thing about being Archie the Tiger?

I represent!!! I LOVE ARCHER!!! I get to show everyone how awesome Archer is and nobody can

touch me and my Tiger pride

What is something youve been able to get away with as Archie?

At a basketball game against West Forsyth I stuck my tail up at one of their cheerleaders and waved my hand like I had just released flatulence and all their cheerleaders ran off to the other side of the

    gym!

As the man behind Archie, do you have a future of being any other mascot after high school?

Ill always be a Tiger, but Ive gotten offers to be the mascot for Georgia Gwinnett College, Mississippi

    State, and Kennesaw.

There you have it Archer! As you can tell we have an awesome mascot -- enough said!

  • Clemson UniversityAs we know, Clemson University is one of the top Atlantic Coast colleges in the nation. Not only are they known for their excellent sports, but also for the number of graduates they have each year. Clemson is a school where people have gone in and come out extremely successful. Clemson University, located in Clemson, South Carolina, was founded by Thomas Green Clemson. The school was formally opened in July 1893 with only 446 students. It was originally called Clemson College up until 1964 when the legislature recognized the schools expansion. Clemson is a school where a student can major in just about anything, anywhere from accounting and computer science to forest resources and more. In order to be eligible for Clemson University, a student must have a 2.4 GPA or higher and obtain a certain amount of credits per hour. If requirements are not met by students, or players on scholarships, they could face academic suspension or probation. Outside of the classroom, Clemson has a lot of activities to be involved in or a part of. Of course, their sports range from football to rowing and everything in between. But if youre not into playing sports, there are other on-campus activities such as many organizations and clubs. For example, Market Wednesday is an organization that recruits new members to help get the word out about upcoming events, programs, and fundraisers on campus. Clemson is a great school to attend, especially if youre looking to get a great education, maybe play sports and have fun doing it. Darius Williams 13

  • Georgia And Georgia Tech Football Georgia: This year Georgia got off to a disappointing 0-2 start, with losses against Boise State and South Carolina. It didnt look too good for Georgia head coach, Mark Richt, who was already on the hot seat due to a sub-par season last year. Well, that was then, but now Georgia is on a seven game win streak and Richts position as the coach looks to be secure.

In the first two games of the season Georgia gave up 80 points, but since then the defense has locked down and played great compared to the first two games. While the defense is a big reason for the Bulldogs winning streak, the biggest thanks is to the quarterback, Andy Murray, and freshman running back, Isaiah Crowell, who both have played spectacularly this season. Georgia is currently atop of the standings in the SEC East. If they wish to play in Atlanta for the SEC championship, they will most likely have to win the rest of their games, due to the fact that South Carolina is right behind them in the standings. Georgias next game is against the Auburn Tigers (number twenty in the nation).

Georgia Tech: At the start of the year, no one saw the Yellow Jackets starting out the year 6-0, but the title hopes for Georgia Tech were short-lived after a shocking loss to a 3-2 football team, the Virginia Cavaliers. Followed by that upset was another shocker with a loss to the Miami Hurricanes. At that point the chances of winning the ACC were dim, especially because their next game was against the number five team in the nation, the Clemson Tigers. The Yellow Jackets were involved in another upset, but this time they were on the other side of the spectrum, pulling off a 31-17 win against Clemson. The Jackets (21) fell short though to the Virginia Tech Hokies (10) in a Thursday night battle between the Tech schools in an upsetting loss with a score of 26-37. They seek a victory against the Duke Blue Devils on the 19th of November.

    B a t t l e F o r G e o r g i a

Georgia vs. Georgia Tech Georgia and Georgia Techs rivalry has been dominated by Georgia the past ten years, with Georgia winning nine of the last ten matchups. Up to this point in the season Georgia has a 7-2 record while the Yellow Jackets have a 7-3 record. Both teams are ranked in the top twenty five, Georgia being number fifteen while Tech is ranked twenty-first. This game can definitely be the game of the week and should be a good watch for all you college football fans.

  • Technology:

Modern Warfare 3 is the newest edition to one of the most popular first-person shooter franchises in the world. Released on November 8, 2011 for Xbox, this rapidly selling Call of Duty game has been described as being a great gameyet very similar to its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2. Critics have generally been unimpressed, claiming that MW3 is nothing new. The vast majority of the maps and weapons are quite familiar to Call of Duty veterans, but this is perhaps the reason they seem to enjoy it so much. The if it aint broke, dont fix it approach to the creation of MW3 will likely be a success.
