A brief summary of the camp:

A special eye awareness program was conducted at Malar Anganwadi on 03/09/19. A total

of 16 participants attended the program. Dr. Reshmi spoke on the importance of eye

Brief summary of the camp:

A special outreach health talk was conducted by the Razia Rural Health care and Training

Center, Harekala and Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College,

Mangaluru at The Government Primary School, Pavoor on 04/09/2019 with the help of health

staff of NirlombeAnganwadi. A total of 70 participants attended the event. The health talk

covered subjects like cleanliness in general and the impact it has on preventing diseases like

dengue, malaria, typhoid, hepatitis. On request of the participants, details about vitamin A rich

food and what its deficiency causes were also spoken about. No child attending the Anganwadi

was found to be malnourished. The school officials and the Anganwadi teacher and other health

staff present there were thanked for their cooperation.

Health talk on nutrition and easy nutritious recipes

vicinity of the anganwadi

During an anganwadi visit as a part of the regular field visit from UHTC, Bunder, the anganwadi

worker suggested that a health education be given to mothers of the children enrolled and also

pregnant women in Bunder. A date and time was decided and the health education was delivered

to the audience by Dr. SubhashreeNandy. The health talk consisted of the variation of healthy

diet with age and also what kinds of nutrients are present in different food items. The session was

concluded by mentioning certain easy nutritious food preparations. At the end of the session, the

anganwadiwoker and helper served 2 nutritious dishes to the audience, one was a juice made of

jiggery and green gram extracts and the other, boiled green gram sauté. The audience appreciated

the effort and the concept and was very receptive to the detailed information given.

Beneficiaries: 142 Canara bank Employees

We were welcomed and introduced by the General Manager of the Canara bank, Mangaluru. A

general health check up was conducted for all the Canara bank Employees woking at Canara

Bank, Mangaluru. Height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, GRBS was done to all Employees. Most

common illness which was noted among the Employees were low back ache, cervical pain, head

ache, Hypertension and Diabetes. A head to toe examination was done to all the patients. Some

patients who needed further were referred to Yenepoya medical College Hospital. We were

given the token of gratitude and the camp ended by 3:00pm.

event. The health talk was mainly on childcare. Topics like anemia, nutrition, breastfeeding were

also covered. Special emphasis was given on junk food and other unhealthy food habits. Queries

were cleared at the end of the session. The local Panchayat officials there were thanked for their

cooperation.

CHC Vittal Posting

Due to outbreak of Dengue fever in Dakshinakannada district, Community medicine

Postgraduate and interns from Yenepoya Medical college hospital were posted at Vittal CHC for

OPD services and IP as per the request from District health officer, Dakshinakannada district.

DrHabeenaShaira, Final year Community Medicine Postgraduate along with two Medical interns

DrShifar and DrFaraaz, and post graduates and interns from Pediatrics and General Medicine

Department were posted on daily rotations at Vittal CHC from 09/09/2019 to 14/09/2019. Two

Medical officers were posted there.

The services provided were daily OPD services, IP services and health education to patients

regarding “Dengue fever and How to prevent it”.

Majority of the cases were of fever followed by Non communicable diseases. All the cases of

fever were tested for Total count, Differential count and Platelet count, MPFT and smear

examination, Urine routine examination and treated symptomatically. Patients who needed

special care were referred to higher centers.

The total patients who were examined and attended by us at Vittal CHC everyday were around

150.

Brief summary of the camp:

A special outreach health checkup camp was conducted by the Rural health training center,

Harekala and Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore at

the Central Muslim School on 14/09/2019. A total of 41 students were examined. No child was

found to be malnourished. Most of the children had caries teeth about which the Principal was

informed about. References wherever necessary were given and their respective class teachers

were asked to talk to the parents about the same. The school officials and the Anganwadi teacher

were thanked for their cooperation.

Program report:

The session started at 10: 30 am.The sessions were conducted separately for boys and girls.

Health education session focused on adolescent health, changes during puberty, physiology of

reproduction, peer pressure and importance of life skills. Girls were also informed about

menstrual cycle and menstrual hygiene.

Dr Poonam R Naik, Professor, Department of Community Medicine,introduced the topic and

sensitized the students to adolescent health. Following this, DrHabeenaShairadelivered the

session focusing on various aspects of changes in puberty and adolescent health.

DrImaad Mohammed Ismail, Associate professor, Department of Community Medicine,

introduced the topic for boys group. Next Dr Kevin explained the topic in detail. This was

followed by a session by Dr.Imaad Mohammed Ismail.

Brief summary of the camp:

A general health check up camp was conducted by Unity Hospital and Department of

Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluru at Adani Wilmar industry,

Baikampady on 20/09/19 and 21/09/19. A total of 397 workers came for checkup and utilized the

services provided. General examination and vitals were checked. Audiometry was performed,

using audiometer and vision check up was also done. All workers blood and urine sample were

collected for routine investigations and pulmonary function test was also done. Medications were

prescribed wherever necessary. Typhoid vaccination was also given to all the workers. During

NCD screening, 50 new cases of systemic hypertension was diagnosed and appropriate

medication, healthy diet and regular exercise was advocated. 60 workers were noted to have

vision problem and 25 auditory problem and were referred to higher center. The staff present

there were thanked for their cooperation.

Yenepoya Medical College and Hospital along with Urban Primary Health Centre,

Yekkur conducted a specialist at JappinamogaruYuvaka mandala Anganwadi on

20/09/2019 Friday. Staff, PGs and interns from General Medicine, Paediatrics,

Obstetrics and Community medicine participated in the camp.DrHrushikeshUdupa

Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine coordinated the camp

The camp was organised from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. various services like multi-

speciality OPD, diabetic and hypertension screening and free medicine were given

in the camp. Around 50 people attended in the camp.

A mega health camp was conducted by Mangaluru Municipal Cooperation and Yenepoya

Medical College for self help group members at UPHC, Ladyhill on 24/09/19. The program was

inaugurated in the presence of MLA, Mangaluru Municipal cooperation commission, District

health and family welfare Officer (DK) and Malaria Officer. A total of 350 members came for

checkup and utilized the services provided. General examination done and vitals were checked.

Medications were prescribed wherever necessary.35 anemia cases were detected and medication

and diet advised. During NCD screening, 10 new cases of systemic hypertension and 12 new

cases of diabetes mellitus were diagnosed. Appropriate medication, healthy diet and regular

exercise were advocated. 8 dermatology cases and 2 ANC cases came for check up at the camp.

The staff present there were thanked for their cooperation.

were checked. Medications were prescribed wherever necessary. During NCD screening, 7 new

cases of systemic hypertension and 6 new cases of diabetes mellitus was diagnosed. Appropriate
