EXTERNAL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT WFP/07/13 (RE-OPENED) Job Title: Driver (2 Positions) Post Grade: Fixed Term G2 Duty Station: WFP Regional Bureau, Cairo Date of issue: 02 nd January 2014 Deadline for application: 09 th January 2014 Accountabilities : Under the direct supervision of the Administration Assistant and overall supervision of the Administration Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties: Major Duties and Responsibilities: Provide reliable driving services using the assigned transport means for the transport of authorized WFP staff members, officials and visitors in accordance with the authorized routing following UN safety and security rules and regulations; Deliver and collect goods, mail, documents and other items. Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required. Take care of the day-to-day efficient maintenance of the assigned means of transport, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc; Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition at all times; Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc; Produce weekly records of mileage travelled and tonnage moved; Negotiate, liaise and coordinate with local authorities to facilitate vehicle movements in designated areas. Check means of transport for mechanical fitness and the security of the cargo, ensuring that cargo is protected against all weather conditions. Identify any apparent problems during field deliveries and report them to the supervisor; Take the steps required in accordance with the rules and regulations in case of an accident; Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications: Successful completion of Primary School Education, Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license and clean driving records. Experience: At least two years’ proven & continuous work experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Experience in driving and maintaining different makes/models of diesel and petrol, saloon and 4-wheel drive vehicles. Desirable Skills: Experience in defensive driving and First Aid training. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, and other kinds of motorised vehicles. Some experience in the application of software technology (use of Ms Word and/or Excel). Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in difficult situations. Ability to use discretion and initiative. Should be able to work effectively with people of different cultural backgrounds within and outside WFP. Knowledge: Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs. Knowledge of radio, email and telephone. Language: Good oral and written communication in English and Arabic.
