MEC for Social Development, to Motla-lepule Lephoto (26) from Ficksburg whohas joined the newly formed EconomicFreedom Fighters (EFF).Ntombela has urged Lephoto to come

back to the ANC, stating that the partyneeded him. She said Lephoto’s mother, aformer provincial executive committeemember, would turn in her grave if hewore the red colours of the EFF.Lephoto’s mother, Mafusi Lehalehale,

was also a speaker of the Sesotho Munici-pality. She died in 2004.“This child joined the EFF with a false

hope that he will be employed. I calledhim back because the ANC is where hebelongs,” Ntombela said.She was in tears as she pleaded with

Tjhetane Mofokeng, the executive mayorof the Dihlabeng Municipality, to giveLephoto a job. She spoke during therecent election campaign of the ANCWomen’s League held at the newBohlokong Hall in Bethlehem.“Tjhetane, please do something for this

child. His mother was a true warrior ofthis party. We have talked to the SetsotoMunicipality on several occasions butthey did not listen. Even if he has tosweep the street, let it be. We want thischild. Please, my mayor: Save the onlychild of Mafusi,” she said in tears.Ntombela gave R6 702 that she had

collected from the members of the

ANCWL as a donation. Lephoto said he hadjoined the EFF last year with the hope to geta job.“I thought the EFF will be the answer to

my problem. Yes, my mother was a die-hardmember of the ANC, but I was left inno-man’s land after she passed away,” hesaid. He said since he had joined the EFF hehad never been hungry like he has been withthe ANC. “I was always with them on

campaigns and they were doing everythingfor me,” he said.Lephoto said the MEC had called him and

asked to meet with him in Bethlehem. Hesaid he had thought the reason why Ntombe-la called him was because maybe she hadbeen realised that he was not happy wherehe was at.“I joined the EFF with a broken heart, not

because I wanted to. I loved the ANC, but I

was developing something for the newparty,” he pointed out. Lephoto said hewas happy with what the MEC had donefor him, adding that this gesture showedthat they still remembered his mother.“I am coming back to the ANC and I

THABANG MPHOMELA (25) andMatlere Morabe (36) from Lesothowere sentenced to 15 years’imprisonment by the FicksburgMagistrate’s Court after they hadbeen found guilty of murder.This came after Mphomela and

Morabe had murdered anotherman, known only as Mahau (24),on 6 December 2012.They were sentenced last

Tuesday.Apparently the suspects and the

deceased were herding their cattlealong the Caledon River in

Ficksburg when they had anargument about their cattle. Theargument led to a fight in whichthey used sticks.The deceased managed to win

the fight against the suspects, butthe battle did not end there.The suspects would not surren-

der and attacked Mahau at nightwhile he was sleeping.They assaulted him using iron

rods and he died on the scene.They then threw his body into theCaledon River and crossed over toLesotho.

Capt. Phumelelo Dhlamini, thepolice spokesperson in Ficksburg,said: “The Ficksburg Policereceived a tip-off three days afterthe incident had occurred.“The investigation led the

Ficksburg detectives to Maputswein Lesotho.“The suspects were traced in

partnership with the LesothoMounted Police Unit and werefound in different areas.“They were arrested and

detained at the Ficksburg PoliceStation,” he said.

thieves are targetingToyota sedans orvans in which hebelieves there is ablack market with apreference for thesevehicles and also agreat demand.“The cars are

stolen while parkedin the street, attaverns or fromyards.“Property-related crimes are a

priority within the two clustersand theft of motor vehicles isone of them. The recentincrease is a great concernwithin the community of theEastern Free State and for thepolice,” he says.“A few arrests have been

made in some cases, but theproblem still continues.“Even though individuals

could be involved in theseactivities, the possibility oforganised crime or a syndicatecannot be ruled out.“The suburbs targeted in

Bethlehem are Jordania, LochAthlone, the central businessdistrict (CBD) and Panoramawhilst in Qwaqwa the areas are

Phuthaditjhaba and Bluegum-bosch.“The cars are stolen either

parked in the yard or in thestreet.“A 16-year-old was arrested

after two cars had been stolenin Bluegumboschtwo weeks ago andhad been recoveredat Maqhekung inPhuthaditjhaba. Thecar was parkedoutside a tavern.“It was stolen

twenty minutesafter the owner hadallegedly locked it.“In another

incident a kombiwas stolen from ayard.“It is believed

that the cars aresold or that theirparts are being sold

and used to repair othervehicles,” says Mophiring.Mophiring implores vehicle

owners to be vigilant and totake the necessary precautionsto secure their cars such asalarm and tracking devices tominimise theft.“An additional security

measure like dogs can be usefulto alert the owner if intrudersare approaching or if they comeinto a yard.“Cases of motor theft are

THE Democratic Nursing Organi-sation of South Africa (Denosa)has donated 280 talking bookstitled Growing your health – Thewellness tree to the ThaboMofutsanyana Education Depart-ment.The donation was handed over

by Victoria Hendricks, theprovincial secretary of Denosa, toBusi Tshabalala, the districtdirector, on Thursday at theTiisetsang Secondary School inBohlokong, Bethlehem.Hendricks says the books are

aimed at teaching learners theimportance of a healthy lifestyle.

She says they decided to give thebook to the primary schoolsbecause they want to promote ahealthy lifestyle at an early age.“We are aware that the non-

communicable diseases are takingtheir toll on our people due tobad eating habits and lack ofexercise just to mention a few,”she says.She says they want to instill

good healthy lifestyle measures ata very young age.“Teachers have contact with

the children and they will be theones who will assist in carryingout the messages as well as helpus to combat these diseases,” shesays.

Hendricks says this was anational project that started inthe North-West province and addsthat they are honoured to be partof it.“We’ve decided to give the

books to this district as well asthe Lejweleputsoa-district.”She says after the distribution

of the books they will follow upand check if the books are used.Tshabalala welcomes the

donation, saying that this willsurely help them as the depart-ment.She says she is happy because

these books encourage thelearners to read.“These are some of the most

amazing books I have ever seen.Many people have never heard ofa talking book and that is whyour learners will love it.“We all would like to see

learners reading but it is likethey are not encouraged all thetime.“This book will make it ease

MEMBERS of the National EducationHealth and Allied Workers Union (Ne-hawu) painted Phuthaditjhaba red whenthey marched from the PhuthaditjhabaHall to the Mofumahadi Manapo MopeliRegional Hospital to hand over a memo-randum against maladministration,outsourcing of services and privatisationat the hospital.Mokapi Mokhachane, provincial acting

secretary, said their main issue was themanagement of the hospital which frustra-ted their members.“Recently there has been an alarming

number of nurses resigning from thishospital because of management. In aperiod of 12 months, 25 nurses haveresigned. On top of this they are nothiring new nurses.“We are also against the outsourcing of

interpersonal transfers to the ButheleziAmbulance Services and others. Otherservices which are outsourced, includecleaning, catering and security. We don’twant companies in our hospital like thepremier said,” said Mokhachane.Mokhachane explained that their

demands included the immediate dismissalof the nursing service manager, in-sourc-

ing of security and the catering at thehospital.He also pointed out that they were not

marching against the ANC.“The actions and decisions by managers

will not change our confidence in theANC. The party brought change to thelives of the people and the workers ofSouth Africa. But we’ll not tolerate whatthe officials are doing to the workers,”Mokhachane concluded.Thabo Shuping, a security officer

working for a company hired by thehospital, said he supported the marchbecause the private companies did nottreat them well.“I would love to see us working for the

Department of Health, because theseprivate companies are not treating us well.Like now, we have worked for two monthswithout a salary. I have worked for threedifferent companies at this hospital.“When the contracts end, we become

stressed because we don’t know if our jobsare safe. We have been promised that thedepartment will hire us, but that neverhappens,” said Shuping.The memorandum was received by

Mzonakele Fikizolo, the deputy directorgeneral of resource management at thedepartment.

THE Mohapi Security Company held agraduation ceremony on Thursday forthe security students at the Ha-Sethun-ya Village in Qwaqwa.The ceremony was held for students

who had completed level one in securi-ty and there were 13 students in total.Motlatsi Tsoaela, the owner of the

academy, said the ceremony was theresult of five hard weeks of training.“These students are receiving their

accredited certificate today.“We are the only academy in the

Eastern Free State accredited by theSafety and Security Sector Educationand Training Authority (Sasseta).“The level-one qualification replaced

gr. E, but the content matches that ofthe then gr. C.“Security is one the professions that

many of our people feed their familieswith.“People who dropped out from school

gets a second chance with security as acareer.“Those who do not have money to

attend tertiary institutions can make aliving after completing these levels,”said Tsoaela.“I have learnt a lot about safety in

security work, and I am glad I havemanaged to pass level one,” saidDibete Mofokeng, one of the gra-duates.“I am looking forward to continue

with the other levels.“Yes, it wasn’t my dream to become

a security officer when I grew up,but circumstances brought me here.”Mofokeng encouraged people to equip

themselves with accredited certificatesin order to make a living.

THE Dihlabeng Local Municipality joined inwith the rest of South Africa in celebratingHuman Rights Day. Their celebrations tookplace on Saturday at the new BohlokongHall.The hall was packed to capacity with

youth from all over Dihlabeng. The celebra-tion started with the youth being taughtabout the sad story of the SharpevilleMassacre on 21 March 1960 were the policeopened fire and killed a total of 69 peopleand wounded 180 others.Those old enough to vote were also

encouraged to do so in this year’s nationalelectionsVusi Dlamini, the Dihlabeng youth

development officer, says they celebratedHuman Rights Day in Clarens last year.“I was happy to see the youth coming in

numbers and that has encouraged us tocome up with the programmes that will keepthem united at all times,” Dlamini says.The youth were afterwards entertained

with music. Local artists performed for theyouth.Dlamini says the celebration was also held

to raise funds in order to pay some of thelocal artists as well as the catering company.

BUTI MOTSOENENG is thenewly elected president of theSouth African Schools FootballAssociation (Sasfa) for the ThaboMofutsanyana District.

He was elected at the recentSasfa Thabo Mofutsanayanaannual general meeting (AGM)which was held at the GreylingBuilding in Bethlehem.

Motsoeneng was unchallengedon the day and takes over fromBongani Chabalala who hasserved Sasfa for three years.

Motsoeneng says people trustand have faith in him. That iswhy he was unchallenged on theday.

“The results showed peoplebelieve in me and I will notdisappoint them. I, however,would like them to support meas well so that we can achieveour long- and short-term goals.”

Motsoeneng, a teacher byprofession, has promised to takeschool football to the next level.He says that he would like to seeteams from Thabo Mofutsanyanawinning provincial finals.

Provincial finals of many

football tournaments have been anightmare for Eastern Free Stateteams. Schools such as Mats-wathaka Primary, MotshepuwaPrimary and Moteka Secondary,just to mentioned a few, havefailed to win provincial finals toadvance to the national finals.

However, not all teams havefaced defeat. Ntsu Secondary andBodikela Primary know what itfeels like to be Free Statechampions.

Both schools have advanced tonational finals. Motsoeneng isdetermined to produce moreteams that will compete atnational level.

“I want to take the schoolsports to where it was in thetimes of United School SportsAssociation of South Africa(Ussasa). Our region used to bea football powerhouse. Many ofour teams have failed to win atprovincial finals and that is a bigconcern that has to be treated asa matter of urgency,” he says.

He acknowledges that he has abig mountain to climb. Mot-soeneng admits that the standardof school football has deteriorat-ed over time purely because

schools no longer play againsteach other on a weekly basis.

“In the past schools would playagainst each other regularly, butnow schools only competeagainst each other during tourna-ments.

“I look forward to start theschools league. I am going toencourage the teachers to attendthe football coaching workshopswhich have been planned forthem. These skills will encourageteachers and assist them todevelop young football stars,” hesays.

Motsoeneng says he would liketo thank all people who havevoted for him.

“I want football to be run bypeople who love it, not the oneswith their own interests,” Mot-soeneng says.

Other people who were votedinto office are Mohale Mopo(deputy president), Cheta Mofok-eng (second deputy president),Matsoso Moshoeshoe (secretary),Paul Mpada (deputy secretary),Nthepane Khashane (treasurer),Thabang Masolane (developmentofficer) and Masabata Monaune(girls representative).

FREE STATE STARS have been handed afine of R250 000 by the Premier SoccerLeague (PSL) following the postponement oftheir scheduled home-game against OrlandoPirates.

Ea Lla Koto were meant to host Bucs atthe Charles Mopeli Stadium, but the gamewas postponed due to the failure of thefloodlights.

“The disciplinary committee of the PSLhas delivered its findings and sanctionsarising from the abandonment of the AbsaPremiership fixture between Free State Starsand Orlando Pirates on 12 February.

“Free State Stars were found guilty ofcausing the abandonment of the match and afine of R250 000, payable within 14 days ofthe delivery of judgment, was imposed.

“Free State Stars is ordered to pay all costsof whatsoever nature arising out of theresumed fixture (to be rescheduled by thePSL), including the costs of Orlando Pirates.Free State Stars are also to pay the costs ofthe hearing,” read a statement of the league.
