Within the context of the role overview and responsibilities, the ideal applicant will be someone who:

Understands how their work aligns to organisational objectives- –demonstrates high level experience in engaging with and partnering with Indigenous communities to deliver collaborative projects that contribute to social, economic and cultural development of Indigenous people and organisational objectives.

Focuses on customers- demonstrates experience in strengthening strategic partnerships with Rainforest Aboriginal people, their organisations, Land Councils and other agencies.

Manages internal and external relationships. Interact regularly with Indigenous people to determine their needs and to develop plans for improving service delivery.

Supports others’ capability development – Initiates, leads and facilitates learning opportunities to assist people, groups and communities to strengthen skills and knowledge necessary to address relevant issues.

Models professional and ethical behaviour - resolves or assists in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas; develops methods to monitor and improve internal processes.

Applies specialist knowledge and skills – demonstrates technical skills and experience in engagement, .

The Principal Project Officer (A06) will work in the World Heritage Connections team and will lead and supervise a small Cairns-based team that supports collaborative working relationships between the Wet Tropics Management Authority and Rainforest Aboriginal people within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. This includes ensuring strategic and meaningful engagement of Rainforest Aboriginal people to strengthen partnerships and further the Authority’s goals and obligations. Ability to undertake travel regionally (including overnight stays) is highly desirable for this role.

ResponsibilitiesSpecific responsibilities of a Principal Project Officer (AO6) are outlined as follows:

Provide strategic advice and support on Rainforest Aboriginal engagement processes in relation to the involvement of Rainforest Aboriginal people in the Authority’s activities and management the World Heritage Area.

Manage and coordinate Rainforest Aboriginal engagement project deliverables including initial planning, delivery and evaluation of specific projects.

Manage task and project progress and timing to ensure the timely delivery of outcomes. Coordinate project information and contribute to reporting against milestones and

expenditure. Conduct general and project specific research and analysis. Contribute to presentation of oral and written reports defining plans, problems, and

resolutions to appropriate levels of management and external stakeholders. Manage the production and distribution of publications, resources and other materials that

support the Authority’s Rainforest Aboriginal engagement activities Develop communication material including ministerial and departmental letters and briefing

notes. Create documentation including scoping documents, plans, analysis documents and

spreadsheets. Develop, maintain and monitor relationships with clients, stakeholders and service

providers. Contribute to the management of project budget and resource allocation. Utilise IT and software tools to effectively perform associated tasks.

In addition, all employees are accountable for complying with health and safety policies and procedures, incident and hazard reporting, and safe work practices and actively participating in relevant training and review of activities such as risk assessments.

Mandatory requirementsThere are no mandatory qualifications, accreditations or professional standards or memberships required to be appointed to a Principal Project Officer (A06) role.

The Principal Project Officer (AO6) is required to have a current driver's licence and be prepared to obtain a manual driver's licence if they do not already have one. Officers are required to drive government vehicles including four-wheel drives as part of their day-to-day field work.
