A WIDOW’S FORUM has beenlaunched by the Free State govern-ment’s executive council.Headed by Premier Ace Magashule

and Social Development MEC SisiNtombela, the forum coincided with thelaunch of the 16 Days of Activism of noViolence against Women and Childrenactivities and was held at the historicWaaihoek area in Bloemfontein lastweek.According to Ntombela, the forum

aims to support the widows of theSouth African National Defence Forcemembers who lost their lives in theCentral African Republic (CAR), RoseTatane, wife of Andries Tatane and thewidow of the police officer who lost hislife in Marikana, Rustenburg, duringthe miner’s strike in August last year.Ntombela said cases of abuse had

risen in the past few months across thecountry and the country was stillreeling in shock from the mutilation ofthe two young girls in Diepsloot, theAnene Booysen case as well as theshocking discovery of bones belongingto two little girls who disappeared threeyears ago.Jane Michelle* says she experienced

abuse in her family after her 85-year-oldmother was raped by a 20-year-old manwho gained entry into the house bypretending to be a police officer.“My four-year-old daughter experi-

enced this terror after she had beenraped by my boyfriend. I was and amunemployed and this led me to give into this man’s cruelty, because we couldnot survive without his provision. Iadmit I was stupid and naïve to let mychild’s dignity and humanity bedestroyed by this man because of aneed to survive.“I would like to urge women out

there not to let any man get betweenyou and your children, especially girls.I did that once and I sure will nevermake that mistake again,” she said.Another woman who survived abuse

is Maki Mafojane*, currently an inmateat the Kroonstad Prison, who said shewas involved in an abusive relation-ship.She said her husband would come

home late intoxicated and physicallyabuse her.“I was not allowed to talk nor look at

people, especially men, because I’d beaccused of dating them. My husbandwas very jealous and that jealousyturned him into a possessive man,” shesaid.Maki said one evening her late

husband came home drunk and shesoon realised he was there to harm her.“As he came in and walked

towards me I realised he was holding aknife. I ran away with my daughter sothat he did not come near my child. AsI turned he came rushing with the knifealready aimed to stab me. We fought forthe knife,” said a distraught Maki.According to Maki the knife ended up

in her hand, everything went blank andthe knife plunged into the husband’schest.“To the widows of the men who lost

their life serving their community inthe mines, police and around thecommunity, we as the governmentwould like to assure you that you arenot alone, we are with you. In Sesothowe say Motho ke Motho ka batho (Aperson is a person through otherpeople).“Let us hold hands with you and take

IT would appear there are nobounds to the ANC’s audacity whenit comes to riding rough shod overthe sensibilities of the ChristianCommunity in South Africa, saysTheunis Botha, the leader of theChristian Democratic Party (CDP).

The latest debacle was a questionincluded by the Department ofEducation in the matric exam

paper where the children wereasked to direct a scene where anine-month-old baby is raped. “Asif we have not been experiencingthese contemptible deeds on aregular basis in our townships.

How sick have we become tocontemplate unnecessarily exposingour children to such things. Themoral decay in the country hasbeen brought about by the permis-siveness we have allowed and the

child rape scandal is just one of thesymptoms. To expose children inthis crude way will in no waycontribute to moral rejuvenation,”he says.

Botha also responds to the latest

controversial remarks made by theFree State premier, Ace Magashule, who said to be angry with the ANCis to be angry with God.

“It would appear that Christiansand churches have succumbed tothe everyday blasphemy. We callon Christians to make it clear tothe ANC that such blasphemy willcost them votes,” Botha concludes.

THABO “THIZABLOKING” MOKOENA,Tsheseng, Moeding, Qwaqwa:

MY people, I greet you all in the name ofJesus Christ, Amen.

I have been pondering about how ouryouth spend their internet data bundles andairtime.

Guess what? I have found the answer. They are spending them on social networksand useless sites. There was a social networkpage called Ou Toilet where people werewriting demeaning and insulting commentsabout each other, but that is now old news.

There is a new disgusting page calledQwaqwa Rocks. Oh my word, people areinsulted on the page and marriages aredestroyed by the rumours. As a youngperson, I get so disappointed and often askmyself why people are not using socialnetworks like Facebook, Whatsapp andTwitter to rather connect with people fromdifferent places. Sadly they use thesedefamatory sites to bring down their peers.

I believe that should use their data bundlesfor more important things, like searching forjobs because most of our youth is unem-ployed. That is why they have time to plotthe downfall of others.

I am shocked that school learners are alsoinvolved in this foolery because it hasdifferent categories like Qwaqwa places andQwaqwa schools, just to mention a few.

On the site it is almost certain that thereare secret declarations of love. If you lovesomeone why don’t you go straight to him orher and tell them rather than writing on thatfilthy page?

Young people, have you heard the phrasetime is money? Stop fooling around. Lastly, Iam shockingly disappointed at the creator ofthat site. If I were given a chance to meethim/her I would simply ask them to explainwhat purpose of the site is.

Site a disgrace

ALFRED MOSIA, Bohlokong, Bethle-hem:

A SHORT while before the dawn of ademocratic South Africa, the ruling ANCparty unfolded a document Ready togovern.

Political leaders were elected by theelectorate to serve and not to be masters. These so-called leaders regard themselvesas monarchs who are above the law, whocan build themselves royal palaces withtaxpayers’ money. So the question is wasthe ANC ready to govern?

Government voted in power by thepeople is there to fulfil a mandate of whichit must give an account to its electorate. Itmust build houses, it must create jobopportunities, create health facilities, etc.

That was the mandate they gave us. Ournation has increased, informal settlementshave grown bigger, backyard tenants haveincreased.

People are contained from bursting outin anger by food parcels and lies that theywill be relocated very soon.

Houses were identified for demolition, sothat occupants thereof could have newhouses erected for them. It is sad to saythose houses are yet have not been com-pleted, the would be beneficiaries are stillin shacks. Here is a derogatory term toincrease your vocabulary. Mantsha-Tlala(to relieve hunger) is when people aretemporarily employed to do menial jobs.

Lastly, if you are going to vote the ANCinto power again, you should know youhave played a part in killing the nation.

Pause, take stock
