RABREN GENERAL CONTRACTORS SET TO BUILD VETERINARY TEACHING HOSPITAL AT TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY The owners of Rabren General Contractors, Matt and Mike Rabren, attended a groundbreaking ceremony on March 20 to announce a partnership project between Rabren General Contractors, Inc. and Tuskegee University for the new Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine (TUSVM). Rabren General Contractors, Inc., based in Auburn, Ala., was hired by Tuskegee University as a design/build contractor for the project. Construction of the $41.5 million facility is slated to begin during the summer. The new teaching hospital will be approximately 120,000 square feet and house high level clinical services for small and large animal medicine as well as accommodate diagnostic services in the areas of pathology, microbiology, parasitology, virology, and immunology. DEFINING COURAGE: AN EVENT TO SUPPORT JAMES OWENS On Friday, April 19, “Defining Courage” will be held in support of James Owens, Auburn University’s first African American football player. The Boy Scout council presents the award annually to a resident of the Lee County area whose personal, professional and civic service typifies the principles found in the Boy Scout Oath and Law. RALPH DRAUGHON PRESENTS BAG PROGRAM ABOUT COACH HEISMAN TO OLLI AT AUBURN The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University (OLLI at Auburn) will host Ralph Draughon, Jr., who will present a lecture on the celebrated John Heisman, who coached Auburn’s football team for five winning seasons, 1895-1899. The Brown Bag lecture will be held Monday, April 15, at 11:45 a.m. in Ballroom B at the Clarion Inn & Suites (formerly the Lexington Hotel), 1577 South College Street, Auburn. 7TH ANNUAL JUNIOR LEAGUE OF LEE COUNTY ‘RUNNING ON EMPTY’ WALK/RUN SET FOR APRIL 13 Take a walk and help the children of Lee County at the Junior League of Lee County’s annual Walk/Run on Saturday, April 13, at 9:00 a.m. This year’s event will be held at Town Creek Park in Auburn and feature a 1.5 mile walk, a 5K walk and a 5K timed run. New this year is a kids obstacle course and other special activities for children. Register at http://juniorleagueofleecounty.com. Cost for the walk/run is $20; 10 and under participate free.
