It has been a long winter and a busy one for the MSRT. We are continuing to work with the ASRT to improve member services, as a part of this process the ASRT completed a review of our By-Laws and has suggested several revisions. The updates are available in the member only section of our website. Your vote is needed to accept these changes, so please take the time to review them and be sure to return your ballot for the 2014-2015 MSRT Board of Directors. Over the past several months representatives of the MSRT and Massachusetts Radiologic Technology community have been working with the staff of the Radiation Control Program on proposed revisions to the Radiologic Technologist Licensing Regulations; CMR105.125. The current regulations were examined and careful consideration was given to each and every aspect by a dedicated group of individuals. As you know, licensing of Radiologic Technologists in Massachusetts began in the late 1980’s and the last revision to these regulations was in 1996. There have been so many technological advances in our profession since that time that updates are needed to reflect current practice standards and to insure that patients who receive medical care here in Massachusetts can be confident that only qualified individuals are providing radiologic imaging and therapeutic services with the lowest possible radiation exposure. In the coming weeks, we project that the proposed revisions will be presented to the Public Health Council and upon approval by the council, the updated regulations will be published for public review and comment. The MSRT will notify all members when the regulations are posted for public review and we encourage you to share this information with your colleagues. Members attending the Annual Conference on April 3rd will hear more about this process in a presentation given by Beverly Anderson, MPH, RS Interim Director & Karen Farris, BS, RT(R(M)(QM) of the Radiation Control Program.
