Szczecin, the capital city of the voivodship, called the "Paris of the North" because of its star-shaped squares and wide alleys constructed in XIX century in imitation of the capital city of France.

In the past it fell under Polish, Danish, German, Swedish and Prussian administrations, and during the Napoleonic wars it was also a French fortress.As a city with a rich history it offers numerous monuments. The visiting of the city is facilitated by the City of Szczecin Tourist Route, which will lead us, among others, to the house where Tsarina Catherine the Great was born or to the Grumbkov Palace where Sophie of Wurttenberg was born (later Maria Feodorovna - the mother of tsars).Next to the palace, you may admire the baroque White Eagle fountain, and not far from there, there is the Gothic Archcathedral Basilica of St. Jacob with a highest observation tower in Szczecin. At the crossing o f taziebna and Staromtynska streets, you will find the house of Velthusen - a Dutch who traded in wine, had a tobacco factory and a cane sugar refinery in Szczecin. The city center may boast with preserved baroque city gates: Portowa and Krolewska. Going to the East from the Krolewska Gate you will find the Castle of Pomeranian Dukes constructed in a Renaissance Italian style. The Castle hosts art galleries, a cinema, concert halls, theatre stages, whereas, concerts of international stars take place on the yards o f the Castle. A short walk from the Castle, along the Oder River, will lead us to Waty Chrobrego [King Chrobry's Embankments]. Located there representational constructions and a spacious terrace with a view over the river were erected in 1901-21. Vis a vis the terrace, there are little cruise vessels and a hydrofoil ship, by which you may cruise to Swinoujscie. Annual Days of the Sea and Yacht Oldtimers Rally take place at the foot o f the Embankments and at the berth of the opposite tasztownia. The center of Szczecin attracts with the oldest operating cinema in the world- Pionier (Guinness World Records Certificate).The first film show took place on 26th September 1909. For full experience of Szczecin, you shall visit also the underground part of the city. The biggest civilian bunker in Poland is located at the Szczecin Central Railway Station. It was constructed during the Second World War. After the war, it was transformed into an atomic bunker.

The Museum of Technologyand Communication - Art Depot in Szczecin.The museum is located in a modernized tram depot. It exhibits trams, buses, cars, motorbikes, bicycles, electronic, telecommunication and household equipment. The showcase o f the museum refers to products of Szczecin automotive industry since 1919. Mr. Leszek Wiszewski's collection of Polish motorization with over 100 objects constitutes an exceptional acquisition.

Over a half o f the area of the city is covered by water and greenery. Szczecin seen from bird's eye view looks like a huge floating garden. It is surrounded from three sides by Wkrzanska, Goleniow and Beech Forests. It enjoys many forests and extensive parks being cut through by a network of rivers, channels and pools. This is the potential o f this city, which even at present makes Szczecin an ideal place for resting, and according to a bold vision of transformations already started under Floating Garden 2050 programme, the management o f those areas and the development of investments in the future may change Szczecin into a new Venice of the North.

The Lagoon is a popular place for recreation, water sports and fishery. Its waters might be reached by sailing from Germany to Stralsund, sailing into the Oder River waters or launching a boat in one o f the Lagoon ports. By sailing on the Oder River, past the Dqbskie Lake, one reaches Stepnica port located by the Odrzanska Bay. The town possesses a port with two marinas and Krampa Marina. The Municipality of Stepnica, which lies at the distance o f 50 km from Szczecin, offers more and more popular forms o f leisure such as bird watching and wildlife watching.

In the southern part of the Lagoon, the bank is lowered. At a small distance, the bank borders with the Wkrzanska Forest. Clockwise, the next port is Trzebiez, followed by Nowe Warpno located to the north. The Nowe Warpno Municipality, situated on the edge of the forest with a vast access to the waters of four lakes and the Szczecin Lagoon, is an ideal place for tourists yearning for relaxation in rural conditions. Water sport enthusiasts, sailors, hunters, artists, horse lovers or mushroom pickers - here everyone can fulfill their passion. The following tourist routes run across the town: red trail 'The Wkrzanska Forest” and the green International Bicycle Route round the Szczecin Lagoon.

THE SZCZECIN LAGOON

The Szczecin Lagoon is connected with the Baltic Sea by the Piana Strait (in the west), Swina (between the Usedom and Wolin islands) and Dziwna (in the east). It is subdivided into the eastern part - The Great Lagoon and the western part - The Small Lagoon. A rather small basin of small depth with characteristic and varied coastline. By the Lagoon, many commercial, fishing and yacht ports were opened in Stepnica, Wolin, Kamien Pomorski, Dziwnow, Trzebiez and Nowe Warpno. The lagoon houses a deepened fairway from Szczecin to Swinoujscie. The average depth of the Lagoon amounts to 3.8 m.

The Mi^dzyodrze area Land located between the two branches o f the Oder River. On its area "The Landscape Park of the Lower Oder Valley” was created. The park houses multiple hydro technical devices (locks, overflows), which used to regulated the water level. Some o f them have been included into the list of the Register o f Monuments, e.g. Widuchowa Wier, which by locks divides the river into two channels.

The Szczecin Lagoon Nature Park is an area of more than 4000 ha of meadows and grazing land rich in the folklore and ornithology aspects, where Scottish Highland cows and Polish horses live in the wild. Meeting those respect evoking animals in their natural environment triggers a prickle of excitement, lingering for long in one's memory.

The Oder River - flows between Poland and Germany at the distance of 161.7 km. You will find many places here where you can change your canoe for a bike on both banks of the river, among others in Siekierki/Wrietzen, or on the section of a legendary Valley of Love near Krajnik/Zaton.In Gozdowice, the banks of the Oder River are connected by a river ferry. Above Gryfino, in the village of Widuchowa, the Oder River divides into two currents - the East Oder River and the West Oder River going through central districts of Szczecin. We will reach the Baltic Sea through the pools and channels of Mi^dzyodrze, the Dqbie Lake and the Szczecin Lagoon, through the Piana River, the Swina River or the Dziwna River. The deltaic Dqbie Lake is located in whole within the borderlines of the city o f Szczecin and it turns out to be a bit petulant - high and short waves occur here.

KOSZALIN K&S 2HUHIThe picturesque territory of the city with high concentrations of green areas borders, from the East, with a forest of the Chetmska Mountain, a natural rest and relax area with many walking alleys, an educational nature trail, a high ropes course and the observation tower looking out to a gorgeous panorama of Koszalin and its vicinity, as far as the Baltic Sea. The "Lubiatowkie Lake" ornithological reserve "is located partially within the city area.

Koszalin attracts visitors with a very attractive cultural offer. The most important events include: "Youth and Film” Film Debut Festival (www.mif.org.pl), the International Organ Festival, "Generation” Rock Festival (www.generacja.koszalin.pl), the Hanza Jazz Festival (www.hanza.koszalin.pl),"Integration You and Me” European Film Festival (http://integracjatyija.pl), Kabareton (www.kabareton-koszalin.pl).

A tourist has a chance to get acquainted with architectonic heritage of the past, as for instance, the Jamno culture open air ethnographic museum, a Gothic house dating back to XV century- "Hangman's House”, a Gothic cathedral o f XIV century of St. Mary of Immaculate Conception, and St. Gertrude' Chapel. The above mentioned monuments together with architectonic attractions o f the city form the Old City Tourist Route. Additionally, a number of museums like the Museum in Koszalin, the Wtodzimierz Wysocki Museum, the Museum of Water and the Book Art Museum are noteworthy.

A Narrow-Gauge Railway dating from XIX century constitutes a great attraction for both children and adults. Seasonal carriage o f passengers is conducted on the section Koszalin-Manowo (12 km). Within the scope of the carriage, one may enjoy organized bonfires, walks along an educational nature trail and competitions. "Koszatek" water tram providing transport to the seaside through the Jamno Lake and the railbus ensuring a rail connection between Koszalin and Mielno Koszalinskie additionally constitute an interesting offer.

One may encounter numerous antique palaces, courts with parks and churches in the poviat of Koszalin. The most significant ones include palace and park complexes in Strzek^cin dating from the turning o f XIX and XX centuries, the palace in Parsowo dating from XVIII century as well as a neo- renaissance palace in Nosowo dating from XIX century. Renovated palaces, as for instance Podewils Knight Castle in Krqg, Manor Houses in Osieki and Plesna or the Amber Palace in Strzek^cin fulfill hotel and gastronomic functions.

"Kamienne Kr^gi” [Stony circles] archeological reserve in Grzybnicki Forest constitutes an

undoubted attraction being at the same time a monument at the European scale, 20 km to the south from Koszalin. The reserve presents stony circles of Goths of I-II centuries A.D. as well as kurgans related to the cult o f the dead. Stony circles constitute the remainings of the most important institution of the public life in antiquity, namely: the assembly of ancestral tribal communities. In the opinion of radiesthesists, the area inside the circle demonstrates special features Other noteworthy facilities include mills and water plants, such as a modern pump storage power plant in Zydowo, with a vantage point over the Radew River valley.

Stargard Szczecinski is one of the oldest cities in West Pomerania.The beginnings of its establishment go back to VIII and IX centuries. In former times, it used to be called the city of churches and towers as their heights distinguished the city, which was referred to as: „Stargard - the highest".

The rank and the number of eminent architectural works place Stargard on the leading position among cities of West Pomerania. To this day, the city has been an active member of the New Hansa. The fortification of Stargard constituting one of the most interesting complexes o f Gothic defense structures in Poland is a matter o f pride of the city. The ring of retrenchment spread for 2260 m. The walls, in approximately a half o f their length, have survived with four towers and three gates: two land gates and one water Mill Gate, which is a unique such facility in Poland. In 2010, the church of St. Mary dating back to the turning of XIII and XIV centuries and the medieval defense walls were granted the status o f historic monuments. The city got incorporated into the European Gothic Brick Route. In 2013, a defense structure, called Basteja was renovated and further developed. Nowadays, it hosts a museum. Additionally, it is worth to visit a place located beyond well known, fixed trails, that is, the Penance Cross, the biggest one in Poland, a testimony to the crime committed ages before. Stargard is also associated with green belts, along the Ina River. To this day, a soil embankment has been preserved around defense walls and it fulfills the role of green belts. 15th meridian goes through the city. The vicinity of the city covers the Pyrzyce -Stargard Plain with plenty of lakes, including the fifth biggest lake in Poland - the Miedwie Lake,7 km from the city.

KAMIEN POMORSKI

Kamien Pomorski was the capital of bishopric since 1175 and it fulfilled that function until 1972.

Until now, the cathedral o f Kamien Pomorski constitutes an important place of religious and cultural lives in Pomerania. The church has become famous for its admirable baroque organ dating back to 1672, equipped with three thousand pipes of perfect sound. The Cathedral hosts the International Organ and Chamber Music Festival- organized continuously since 1965. Only in Kamien Pomorski there is the Stone Museum presenting collections o f interesting minerals, fossils, and exhibits coming from the space.The Museum is located in the XIV century Wolin Tower (1308) the only one out of eight towers that remained. A spectator terrace from which one may see the whole city and its surroundings is an additional attraction (the ancient shape of the city is well visible from the heights). Preserved historical heritage of Kamien Pomorski attracts vast numbers of tourists. The vicinity o f water bodies (the Kamien Pomorski Lagoon, the Dziwna River, the Cicha Bay, the Karpinka Bay, the Wrzosowskie Lake) offers an additional appeal for fans of sailing, rowing or fishing. You may cruise to Dziwnow from the city or take a sea cruise. At the picturesque Kamien Pomorski Lagoon, the Kamien Pomorski Resort is located. THE ISLAND OF WOLINThe Island of Wolin is the largest Polish island. A considerable part of the island is covered by the Wolin National Park protecting coastal cliffs, precious flora, rare birds and animals. The city of Wolin is situated in the heart o f the island (historical Jomsborg), where an open air ethnographic museum - a Slavic and Viking Center is located. The museum is a fascinating attempt for reconstruction o f the development of Wolin o f IX-XI centuries, performed on the basis of excavations and archeological research. The Slavic and Viking Center in an unconventional and attractive manner presents culture and traditions of the region with various aspects o f life from 1000 years ago. Mi^dzyzdroje, a popular summer capital o f Poland due to the Star Festival (festiwalgwiazd.com) that is worthy of the name of "Polish Cannes”. The municipality of Rewal is located amongst hundred-year old pine and spruce forests. A healthy, sea microclimate together with 18 km of sandy beaches - due to these assets the area for years has belonged to most often visited tourist regions at the Polish coast.

In the Sea Fishing Museum in Niechorze you may admire interesting seafaring exhibits as well as former utilitarian articles from Baltic fishermen's households. In Pustkowo, you may admire the Baltic Cross of Hope which is a replica o f the Cross on Giewont. KOtOBRZEGKotobrzeg, with the population of 47 thousand inhabitants, is a port town situated at the mouth of the Parsfta River. The town was granted municipal rights in 1255 and due to its location it is one of the oldest towns in Poland.

At present, Kotobrzeg is the biggest health resort and the Polish SPA Capital. Five - and four-star hotels provide the touch of luxury at every season, while SPA salons are ideal for relaxation and relief seekers. Being the town of the biggest number of sunny days on the Polish coast, Kotobrzeg deserves to be visited. MIELNO fe «The town located on a sandbar between the Baltic Sea and the Jamno Lake. The clean guarded and radio equipped beach, surrounded by cafes, restaurants and fish and chip shops, is the most favorite place o f tourists. Along the beach stretches a promenade in Mielno and Sarbinowo, a place within the Mielno Commune. The beach can be reached by safe exits adjusted for the disabled.The place is nicely characterized by a monument o f a deer and a monument of a walrus. Mielno possesses the oldest Marine Club 'Tramp' on the Baltic middle coast. The sailing marina by the 140-meter pier possesses a water equipment rental outlet. This is where the sightseeing boat 'Mila' starts is voyage on the lake. The more and more modern Mielno still possesses well- maintained buildings from the beginning of the XX century. Numerous cycling routes have been established at the commune area, including the

most interesting and the longest one - Bike the Baltic. There is also a Lighthouse in the place of Gqski. The tourist attraction that deserves attention is a beautiful lime alley from Mielno to Mielenko and a Turkish hazel alley by the road to Sarbinowo. THE ROUTE OF LIGHTHOUSES

For dozens of years the sailors heading for West-Pomeranian ports were shown the way by seven lighthouses. Nowadays these lighthouses are used not only for navigation purposes. The historic structures act as big attractions for tourists, and also as viewing galleries with panorama of the surroundings.

The SWINOUJSCIE Lighthouse:The beacon [tower] height 68 m, the light range 46,4 kmIt stands at the base of the east breakwater, at the mouth of the Swina river. It is the highest lighthouse at the Baltic seaside and one of the highest lighthouses in the world. Its unique mass, erected in 1857, has survived in an unchanged form only thanks to insubordination of the German lighthouse keeper who, during the retreat o f the German troops from Swinoujscie, did not carry out the order to have it demolished.

It is located at the base of the breakwater shielding the entrance to the port. A view over the port, the sea and the spa park can be seen from the lighthouse. It replaced the old lighthouse

The NIECHORZE LighthouseThe beacon [tower] height 45 m, the light range 37 kmWest o f Niechorze, on high cliffy seaside covered with thick woods, a lighthouse is located, with characteristic shape of tower arranged on octagonal plan with adjacent two-storey residential houses. Delivered for operation in 1866, renovated in 1999­2000, it gained a new shine and splendour.

In 1878 the light went on on its top which has been shining continuosly until today.

The DARtOWO (Dartowko) LighthouseThe beacon [tower] height 22 m, the light range 27.8 km

After adding in 1927 one storey on the square-shaped tower adjacent to the pilot station building, constructed of red brick with facing, the lighthouse was constructed and it has survived until our times in

unchanged appearance. Being located at the base of the east breakwater, shielding the entrance to the port in Dartowek, it is exposed to action of strong sea waves, during storms occurring quite often in this area.

The JAROSLAWIEC LighthouseThe beacon [tower] height 33.3 m, the light range 42.6 km A lighthouse was commissioned between Dartowo and teba in 1838, having a shape of a four-storey round tower made of red brick. It was shining uninterruptedly for more than one hundred years, until the Second World War, during which it was heavily destroyed. Only within a year after the war it started its operation anew.

All the lighthouse buildings apart from the KIKUT lighthouse are made available for visiting by tourists every day from 10 to 18.

The West Pomeranian Sailing Route is a comprehensive supra-regional tourist product, covering a network of harbors and sailing marinas within the area of Szczecin, Szczecin Lagoon and the West Pomeranian Baltic coast.

The West Pomeranian Sailing Route encapsulates around 20 new locations or modernized sailing marinas and ports. The shores of Szczecin Lagoon, the vicinity o f the Wolin National Park or the Pars^ta River outlet to the Baltic Sea cause that the Route's ports and marinas are situated in places of unique natural values. The route also leads through unique monuments of historical and cultural value. The border location of the Province and the cross­border nature of Szczecin Lagoon render the route a euro-regional area of water tourism. A special potential relies on combining the possibilities of numerous sailing tours on inland waterways (Channel: Oder - Havel , Oder, Dqbie Lake, Szczecin Lagoon, the Kamien Pomorski Lagoon, the Piana, Swina and Dziwna Straits) with sailing on the high seas - along the Baltic coast, creating a Europe - unique space of sailing freedom, which renders the West Pomeranian Sailing Route the only route of this type in Europe.

Within the area of the sailing route there operate multiple trade enterprises specializing, among others, in design, construction and repair of vessels, the production and distribution of kayaks and sailing equipment, the sale of boats and motor boats, the supply o f a specialist equipment o f marinas and camping sites, devices of water navigation, the wholesale of windsurfing and kite surfing equipment, chartering vessels, as well as schools of sailing for children and teenagers.

POMERANIAN WAY OF ST. JAMES

Among the numerous routes that might be travelled across in West Pomerania Province, there are some of mystical nature.

A present-day tourist will encounter unique evidence of the region's history, gems of sacred architecture, enchanting landscapes, as well as people cherishing the tradition and culture of the region creating common cultural heritage of Europe. Those include: the Way of St. James, the Cistercian Route, the Commanderies of Templars and the Brick Gothic Trail.

In the West Pomerania Province, one of the two routes leads along the Oder River, with the St. James the Apostle Cathedral basilica located in the very center of Szczecin, by which crafts and regional products fair is held every July. The route leads south (through Cedynia and Siekierki or Kotbacz and Mysliborz) to Frankfurt on the Oder River or towards north (through Goleniow, Wolin and Swinoujscie).

The other is called the Pomeranian Route (Via Baltica), which starts in the Lithuanian town of Kretinga, leading through Kaliningrad, Gdansk, Stawno, Dartowo, Bukowo Morskie, Koszalin, Kotobrzeg (its branch also leads through Biatogard and Karlino), Trzebiatow, Kamien Pomorski and Swinoujscie just to reach Rostock where it merges with the Ways of St James o f Scandinavia.

Among many places which deserve to be visited on the West Pomeranian Ways of St. James, there are real gems of sacred architecture, e.g. "Finnis terrae' Church in Iwi^cino, Cathedral basilica in Kotobrzeg, the Church in Jarszewo with a beautiful roof polychrome, the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Karlino, and other being at the same time excellent examples of the brick gothic. Some of those objects are also present on other cultural trails of the region - Cistercian, Brick Gothic and Otto of Bamberg routes.

THE EUROPEAN ROUTE OF BRICK GOTHICEncompasses 34 towns with brick Gothic architecture in seven countries around the Baltic Sea. It hosts Gothic gates, towers, churches, monasteries, town halls in places historically associated with the Hanseatic League. In West Pomerania, the route runs through Stawno, Szczecin and Stargard Szczecinski.

In Stawno, a rather small town situated 25 kilometers from the Baltic Sea; there is an impressive Church of St Mary and two town gates perfectly embodying the brick Gothic. The most valuable Szczecin monuments comprise the Cathedral Basilica of St James, St Peter and St Paul's church, the Old Town Hall and the Church o f St John the Evangelist. In the vicinity o f the province capital lies the town of Stargard Szczecinski with its original, built over the river and unique in Europe - Mill Gate, while the Collegiate Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with its fantastic stellar vault, is considered to be the most beautiful church of brick-Gothic architecture in Poland.

THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR TRAIL

combines places and persons interested in this knightly order on the route from Jeru­salem through Chwarszczany, Lietzen and Rurka to Paris, London and Tomar. The ac­tiv ity within the framework of the trail relies on gathering and exchange of informa­

tion, contacts, publications and completion o f jo in t projects and other non-conventio- nal objectives. At the area o f the West Pomerania Province, the trail connects the mo­nastic commanderies in Chwarszczany, Rurka near Chojna, Mysliborz and Czaplinek. It also runs through places connected with the Knights Templar (Chojna, Banie, Dar-

gomysl, among others) and places possessing interesting medieval monuments, such as Moryn, Lubiechow Gorny and Godkow, with medieval granite churches having my­sterious chessboard pattern or Drahim castle related to the Order of St John o f Jerusa­lem. The most important monuments on this part o f the trail are former monastic cha­

pels in Rurka and Chwarszczany which hold extremely valuable medieval polychro­me. Each year, during the second half o f August, medieval knightly festivities are held

in Chwarszczany.

The Pomeranian Embankment Fortification RouteDuring the period of Hitler's preparation for the war in 1934, an intensive construction of fortification stretching from the Baltic Sea near Dartowo to the so called Mi^dzyrzecz Fortification Region was commenced. In the region of Nadarzyce, Watcz and Strzalin, bunkers and combat bunkers were constructed. The equipment included medium-calibre quick-firing cannons, anti-tank cannons, heavy machine guns and mortar grenade launchers. Difficult and bloody battles o f breaking the Pomeranian Embankments were waged at the beginning o f 1945. Today, the remains of the destroyed bunkers and shelters in the forests of the Watcz Lake District and well as museum items bear witness to those days.To commemorate those events, a Rally along the Pomeranian Embankment Fortification is organized annually at the Watcz Lake District during the first decade of June.

Municipal Fortification RouteThe defense history o f Kotobrzeg dates back to the XIV c. with the construction of a fortified town and lasts till the end o f XIX c. during the destruction of the Kotobrzeg Fortress. The medieval defensive walls were demolished following the construction of modern fortification at the end o f the XVII c. The still present remains o f the medieval fortification include the Lontowa [Fuse] Tower (now called Prochowa [Powder] Tower) and the ruins of the Wi^zienna [Prison] Tower. The majority o f modern fortification left after

the fortress destruction, was also demolished.The remaining individual buildings from various periods of its modernization enable the review of development of the fortification art between XVII and XIX c. The fortress relics embody the influence o f various fortification schools: Netherlandish (the oldest buildings), Swedish,French and Prussian. The length of the proposed route is 12 km, starting at the Town Hall and finishing at the Museum of the Polish Army.

Beautiful landscapes, picturesque fields and meadows, light blue sea, clean lakes, unique fauna and flora, numerous tourist attractions, as well as numerous agrotourism farms -is the type of leisure offered by West Pomerania villages which made the country tourism and agrotourism trendy.

NATURENatural environment values in the West-Pomeranian Province permit the lovers of nature to gather a collection of photographs of rare and protected flora and fauna.

At the mouth of the Odra river the National Park of Wolin is situated, encompassing the north-western part of the Wolin island, the inshore waters of the Baltic Sea, the Swina river delta and also part of the Szczecin Lagoon. There can be found more than 1300 species o f plants in the park. The cliffy hillsides are covered with sea buckthorn [hippophae rhamnoides] growing thereon, the moraine hills are covered by beech woods and pine forests, and the Baltic Sea bed is taken by Chlorophyta, Phaeophyta and Rhodophyta. Among plenty of birds we shall encounter, among other species, white-tailed (sea) eagle or red-breasted flycatcher [Ficedula Parva], and on waters of the Pomeranian Bay one can find grey seal and harbour porpoise. There is also the reserve o f European bisons [Bos Bonasus], and the Teaching and Museum Centre.

A bird sanctuary on the Island of Karsibor - Karsiborska K^pa constitutes an enclave for wild birds.There are over 140 species of birds. A canoe trail o f 44 Islands o f Swinoujscie goes along the shores of the island.

In the remaining part o f the region several Landscape Parks have been established. In the area connecting the Forest o f Gorzow and the Mysliborz Lake District there is situated the Barlinek - Gorzow Landscape Park. It is the habitat o f the marsh flora and fauna, there occur moraine hills with calcareous and sandstone rocks, the Central-European broadleaved forest, and also the reserve with Salmonidae [Salmons, Trouts and charrs].In the Odra river valley two landscape areas have been established. The first one is the Cedynia Landscape Park, situated in the Odra river valley and west of the valley- the pine tree woods and mixed woods of Sandy Forest and o f the Mieszkowice Woods. Taking advantage of numerous viewing spots (the highest one is Zwierzyniec- 167 m above sea level) one can admire the wonderful panorama o f moraine hills cut through with valleys of rivers and streams. The Complex of Landscape Parks of the Lower Odra River comprises the municipalities o f Widuchowa, Gryfino, Kotbaskowo, and partly the city of Szczecin. In its area there are peat bogs and marshes cut through with a network of canals and old river beds, w ith flora and fauna not encountered any more in valleys of other large rivers.

Not far from Gryfino, there is Krzywy Las [Crooked Forest]. It is a natural feature o f historic importance distinguished by its unique form of pines growing there. The cluster o f 100 peculiarly deformed trees covers the area o f 0.30 ha planted for no clear purpose. The trees were planted probably around 1934. Irrespective of the reason for their planting, the trees constitute nowadays one of the biggest environmental attractions of the Western Pomerania.

In the south-eastern end of Szczecin the Szczecin Landscape Park - Bukowa Forest is located. These are the Bukowe Hills, covered with extensive woods, making the range of the highest, in this part of Pomerania, moraine hills cut through with deep valleys. The deepest ones o f them are taken by peat bogs and lakes - the largest ones are the Glinna Lake and the Binowskie Lake. The curiosity is the picturesque Szmaragdowe Lake that was formed in place of the mine of Cretaceous Limestones, flooded in 1925 by undergorund waters. In the woods of the Bukowa Forest the 18 species o f orchids and 328 species o f mushrooms are growing. As regards fauna, we can encounter here, apart from other animals, fox, badger, ermine, weasel as well as roe deer, deer and wild boar. Szczecin is surrounded from the northern west by the Wkrzanska Forest. There are many walking and cycling trails running through the forest. You can chance on many archeological excavation sites in the forest, and first o f all - on the Swidwie Lake Nature Reserve with Waterfowl. It is one o f the most important in Europe Birds Observation Stand, from which you can watch i.a. cranes, orioles, mud birds, white-tailed sea eagles, red kites and ruffs. This Reserve has been recorded in the International RAMSAR Convention as one of the major wetlands on the global scale.

In the Lake District o f Insko the Insko Landscape Park has been created, protecting the end moraine ridges covered with woods and reaching the height o f 180 m above sea level. The following species of birds are nesting here: white-tailed sea eagle, black stork, lesser spotted eagle, red and black kites, and the number of the nesting cranes is the highest in Poland.

At the southern end o f the Bukowa forest the first private forest nurseries were established. About 1870 they were taken over by state-owned forest division [forest inspectorate]. Then the forest inspector Carl Ludwig Gene contributed to planting of new exotic individuals o f trees, bushes and shrubs, out o f which only few ones have survived until now. Thus the foundation of the Dendrological Garden in Glinna. Since 1970 the garden has been taken care o f by the Gryfino Forest Inspectorate.

The Dendrological Garden in Przelewice wasoriginally the English Landscape Park near the palace. From that period the following species 0of trees have survived: the individuals of beeches, limes, ashes, and among the foreign species: plane tree, weymouth pines, white cedar [Thuja Occidentalis], maidenhair tree [Ginkgo Biloba].The total change in the park structure took place in the period from 1933 to 38, when the Przelewice Park was owned by Conrad von Borsig, a member of the German Debdrological Society. It was at his order and with his participation that the new arrangement of the garden, preserved until now, was created.

The Hortulus thematic gardens in Dobrzycawere established in 1992. The idea of the gardens is to present the layout of plants in various compositions as well as their application in individual gardens. The gardens are divided according to topics and they are a regional attraction throughout the year. The most recent part out of 28 types refers to the Antonio Gaudi style and the Troll Mountain which is attractive especially to young visitors. Hortulus is the place for ecological education. There are educational paths. It hosts numerous outdoor events and outdoor scenes. The area of the gardens offers the "Barwinek” Cafe Bar, a playground for children, garden-center and a market where you can buy lots of souvenirs, the Hortulus coin and since 2011 also tourist badge No 734.

GOLF COURSESThe Western Pomerania has got superb natural conditions and rather diversified land, excellent for building perfect golf courses of high difficulty level. Location of our province, good transportation and communication system and mild climate create favourable conditions for playing golf almost throughout the year.

In the area of the West-Pomeranian Province there are five large golf courses in operation, for beginners and for the advanced golf players; each of them is highly recommendable, owing to its exceptional location and attractive offer.

The „Binowo Park Golf Club" is located in the area of the Szczecin Landscape Park. There are only 20 km separating it from the centre o f Szczecin. The golf course is located is in an undulating area with plenty of small ponds, which enhances its attraction and difficulty level. The complex incorporates the championship 18-pit golf course, and the training 9-pit golf course, driving range, m inigolf and playground for children. The „ MODRY LAS Golf Club" is located in the vicinity o f Choszczno, at about 75 km south-east o f Szczecin, on the enchanting Radun lake. In the area of 130 ha the 18-pit go lf course (par 72) is located. Apart from enjoying the golf game one can go in for water sports here and take advantage of the horse riding centre.

RECREATION IN CASTPalace in MaciejewoPalace in Maciejewo was built at the end of 19th century and belonged to von Flemming family. The cruelty o f Flemmings was legendary; they supposedly tortured and killed local peasants in the old castle. From 17th century the old castle is desolate. In 19th century, high Flemmings' income allows them to start the construction o f a new seat. In 1899, a splendid family residence is completed - today's Maciejewo Palace. It is located in a wonderful surrounding at Lechickie Lake. It is 50 km from Stettin and 12 km from international airport in Goleniow. In the building there are 48 comfortably furnished rooms, a restaurant, conference rooms, indoor swimming pool and year-round recreational bungalows located in 15-hectare park. Near the palace the hunting grounds and golf courses are located, there is also an opportunity of horse riding.

Castle in Krqg15th century knight castle is included to the most interesting and the biggest historical buildings in Poland. With the death of the last member of Wedel family - Andrzej Tuczyski in 1717, the castle changed hands, becoming more and more neglected. During Second World War the castle, constituting a part o f German forti cations o f Pomeranian Wall, was blown up, and then burnt down. In the years 1966 -1967 the castle was rebuilt in renaissance - baroque forms from the beginning of 18th century. Society of Polish Architects SARP has been opened here with a conference center, hotel and a restaurant. Over 100 lodgings are at disposal o f visitors. The residence is surrounded by a spacious park with old forest stand.

Hunting Palace in StonowiceThe palace is situated at the outskirts o f the Drawsko Lake District in Stonowice village between tobez and Swidwin. The beginnings of its history date back to 1736. In the immediate vicinity there is the Stonowice Lake with a privately- owned beach. Guests have at their disposal 70 hotel places in rooms o f high quality standard. The Siemczyno PalaceThe Siemczyno Palace was constructed in the years 1722-26 by Henning Berndt von der Goltz in a classical style together with a beautiful period park and a palace manor. The interior was furnished in a baroque convention. In 1799 the palace was developed on the initiative of Henry August vonArnim. During its almost 300 year's old history, it has severally changed its owners, and following WWII it became owned by the state. Since 1990 it has been a private property and since 1999 it has been owned by the present owners. Currently, it is included in a complex of the palace and the manor, where, for the purpose of training, tourism and leisure, 40 comfortably equipped rooms and a number of conference and leisure halls as well as other attractions have been organized. Siemczyno, historically the border village, witnessed the entry o f the Swedish army to the Republic o f Poland on 21 July 1655 (the Beginnings of the Swedish Invasion of Poland).

LAKE DISTRICTS IN WESTERN POMERANIAWest Pomeranian region consists not only of sea and sandy beaches, but also lakelands and numerous dispersed lakes. Wide and small, hidden in forests and between hills or located next to the seaside. Some are ideal for yachting or windsur ng, others for fishing and diving. According to the local inhabitants, some lakes have their own legends. Almost each lake has a camping, a holiday resort or a simple agritourism farm, waiting for those who want to relax and forget about everyday problems.

Unique richness of aquatic areas, intact nature, rest and calmness - all that is offered by the Pomeranian River Scenery. This idyllic area stretches in the Western Pomerania from the north-east part o f Germany to the province of West Pomerania in the north-west part of Poland. All who desire to actively spend their vacation in the bosom of nature on and in water are recommended to benefit from combined land and water tourist tours, leading through areas resembling pictures found in a tourist album. THE MYSLIBORZ LAKE DISTRICT

The main lakes are Myliborskie, Lubie, Czonowskie, Chop, Golenicko-Dobropolskie, and Barlineckie lade. Convenient canoeing routes include the Ponia river (especially between Miedwie lake to Szczecin) and the Myla river. Most towns in the region dates back to medieval age and has interesting history. The central part of the lakeland is characterized by picturesque moraine hills and large forest areas. There are two natural landscape parks - Cedyski Landscape Park in the West and Barliniecko-Gorzowski Landscape Park in the South-East.

BarlinekThe city picturesquely located on the edge of an extensive Barlinek Forest, in the vicinity of numerous lakes and forests. In 1868, Emanuel Lasker was born in Barlinek - a chess world champion, mathematician and philosopher, king o f the chess world for 27 years. The Chess Festival is organized in his honor every year in July. Additionally, Barlinek is associated with the Queen o f the Barlinek Forest. There are numerous cultural and sports events organized in relation to this figure, as, among others, the June Days of Barlinek, "Barlinek Midsummer Event” during which the Queen of the Barlinek Forest is elected and the Farewell to the Summer with the elections of the Queen of the Larder. Barlinek will appeal to everybody with its Nordic Walking Championship of Poland. The European capital o f Nordic Walking attracts the best competitors o f walking. The city offers also many other active forms o f spending free time (recreation and water sports, hippika, fishing, nature and landscape photography, visiting reserves and monuments of nature).

CANOE TRAILS OF THE M YSLIBORZ LAKE DISTRICTThe Rurzyca River - flows out from the lake in Trzcinsko Zdroj. In March, it faces a relatively high level o f water, however, already in May the level o f water may be low. Remains o f water mills force canoeists to drag their canoes over those obstacles, among others, in Kamienny Jaz, Strzelczyn, Rurka, and several times in Chojna. The river bed hides several thresholds built of wooden planks as well as unforeseeable number o f bushes and trees. There are several interesting localities at the river bank. Trzcinsko Zdroj is an almost thoroughly preserved circle o f city walls with an ancient layout of streets. You should also visit Rurka with a Templar chapel and Chojna with St. Mary's Church. Due to a very high level of arduousness o f the river one shall allocate some 5 days for a 45-kilometer rally.

The Mysla River - its source is located in the vicinity of Barlinek. A clear, even virgin, lowland river, happens to astonish the canoeist with a change in its character and at moments it resembles a mountain river. It flows though the following lakes: the Koscielne Lake, the B^dzin (Bandyn) Lake, the tub ie Lake, the Mysliborz Lake, the Wierzbnica Lakie. The river to a considerable degree, has maintained its original course, the river bed has numerous meanders; it forms many bends, pools and riverside ponds. This winding and rapid river navigates mainly through forests, sapping high river banks. It is best to start your canoe rally from the Mysliborz Lake. There are six water-power plants operating on the river. You may find traces of the Templars and Knights Hospitaller in Mysliborz and Dargomysl. The most precious monument refers to the chapel in Chwarszczany.

The Ptonia River - its source is located near Barlinek, on the area of the "Ptonia River Valley” Culture and Landscape Park. It flows through the Pton Lake, the Miedwie Lake and the Zelewko Lake. Additionally, it flows through the Puszcza Bukowq [the Beech Forest] and the Goleniow Plain. It flows into the Dqbie Lake in Szczecin-Dqbie. 65 kilometers o f the river from Niepotcko is suitable for canoeing. You shall be careful in the upper course of the river due to remains of mills. Canoeing down the Ptonia River you shall stop in Kotbacz and visit historical constructions of the Cistercians. Especially the "city” section of the river located thoroughly within the administrative borderlines Szczecin is worth recommendation. You shall plan 6 days to cover the whole distance.

The Tywa River - (44.6 km) flows out from meadows located in the vicinity of Trzcinsko Zdroj and flows through north and west part o f the lake district. The Tywa River has the biggest difference of levels among all rivers o f the Westpomeranian Region. Due to that reason its waters were used to propel water mills. In the upper course, it flows though a series of twelve, mainly postglacial channel lakes. The river is arduous due to numerous obstacles. The most picturesque is the section of the last several a dozen or so kilometers from Lubanowo. The convenient location of the Tywa River in the vicinity of communication routes makes it possible to divide the canoe rally into smaller sections. To canoe through the section from the Strzeszowskie Lake you shall plan at least 4 days.

THE WAtCZLAKE DISTRICT

The Watcz Lake District stretches west between the Drawska Plain and the Gwda Valley. It houses charming towns, hidden among lakes and forests, such as Watcz, Tuczno, Cztopa or the mysterious Itawiec, among others.

The district landscape is dominated by pine woods and beech forests. Clean rivers flowing in between forests constitute wonderful kayaking trails, abundant w ith fauna elements, with kingfisher, grey wagtails, herons and otters. The unique oasis of peace and silence is a virtual paradise for anglers. Sailing enthusiasts choose Bytyn or Zdbiczno lakes where they avail themselves of the at-the-place leisure, camping sites and water equipment rentals. All this makes the leisure in the District a wonderful alternative to the sea and mountains, devoid o f the crowd o f tourists, which renders a cozy and family vacation climate.

Watcz - a town established in the XIV c. on an isthmus between lakes. The history o f Watcz means continuous ups and downs. The town used to belong to the Teutonic Knights, it was dependent on the Brandenburg Family, and incorporated into the Prussian rule. In the XVI c. the Jesuits were brought to the town, which went down into its history for several years. The XVII century marked the gradual collapse o f the town, destroyed repeatedly during the Swedish invasion. In the 20s a m ilitary garrison was established. The town surroundings were the crucial point o f the planned defense. Two strongly fortified Groups were formed. In the aftermath of the military action, Watcz was again significantly destroyed. Many buildings still possess visible traces o f the shellfire. The town's tourist assets are first and foremost the beautiful water basins. The municipal lakes are adjusted for both anglers and sunbathers. The objects deserving attention are: Bukowina Watecka [Watcz Beech Forest], and a suspension bridge spreading over the Radun lake, a pressure tower, an eastern Orthodox Church, an educational path and the Olympic Training Center. The Zamkowe lake promenade leads to the Museum of the Watcz Region, further one may see solar clocks, eclectic town hall and a beautifully reconstructed market square. Militaria lovers will be enthralled with the unique objects o f the Fortification Groups Cegielnia and Marianowo, as well as the military cemetery.

Mirostawiec. Historically rich, the town of today cannot prove its history with the present monuments. The first defensive castle was burnt down in 1719. Rebuilt as a residence in a Dutch baroque style, it burned down again in 1890. The only remains left are the walls grown with flora, and the moat. The appearance of the Jewish Commune at its territory had a significant impact on the town development. Today the sole trace of its presence is the old cemetery with period Jewish tombstones. The municipality is located among 21 lakes, the majority of which is made available to anglers (17), including the Wielki Bytyn Lake, which together with the shoreline, form a Nature Reserve. Here one may encounter cormorants, lesser spotted eagles, cranes, herons, as well as pond turtles and the biggest attraction of the area - bisons. The nature gem is the 'Rosiczki Mirostawieckie' reserve. Once in town, it is worth visiting the Museum of Battles o f the Pomeranian Embankment, a granary and the Gallery of Sundries - a place shrouded in mystery, surprising at the very moment of its entrance. An additional attraction is the possibility of kayaking trips along the Korytnica River Trail.

Near Watcz, close to Rutwica village, there is a curiosity-arising, emotions-evoking and controversy - triggering place - called the Magical Hill. The inconspicuously looking hill, where objects act against the laws of physics. This is a place where spilled water runs upwards, and a car, with an engine turned off, goes fast - event up the hill. There are various hypotheses trying to explain the phenomenon and a legend of this mysterious place.

CANOE TRAILS IN THE W ALCZ LAKE DISTRICT

Tuczno - an old town, picturesquely located on hills, with its borders reaching two lakes. Despite the numerous destructions, caused by war action, one may feel the atmosphere of the former town thanks to the restored Wedel-Tuczynscy Family castle together with a beautiful park and a church, which miraculously survived the wartime conflagration. What becomes visible is the medieval street layout and the former town market square. The town surrounded with vast forests, situated next to the Drawno National Park, will attract walking and cycling expedition lovers as well as photo-hunting enthusiasts. The vicinity of clean lakes enables bathing and angling. The town will provide militaria lovers with strong emotions while touring underground corridors. Next to the castle there are the remains of one of the shelters located in the former castle moat, while in the nearby located Strzaliny, there is one of the biggest complex of shelters called Grupa Warowna Gora Wisielcza [the Fortified Group Hangman's Hill]

„Watecka P$tla Kajakowa"[Watcz Kayaking Loop]Since 2001 - cleared and professionally marked kayaking trail in the area o f Nature 2000. Its main asset is the 45-km route across seven picturesque lakes connected by Zydowka, Pitawka and Dobrzyca Rivers. Surrounded with pine and beech forests, meadows with unique flora; and inhabited by moufflons, beavers, wild boars, deer, and even bisons, w ith cormorants and white tailed eagles overhead. In the vicinity o f this Paradise - huge fortifications of the Pomeranian Embankment are located. Good night accommodation and catering base, water equipment and kayaking tourism guides.

The Paul John II Rurzyca TrailThe river length amounts to 25 km. It has its source in the Krqpsko Mate Lake and flows into the Gwda River, passing five lakes. Rurzyca is cut into steep 15 m high hillsides. The kayaking trip starts in Trzebieszki near a well-designed restaurant and a vast parking lot. During 2 hours, when kayaking a bit upstream, one may go back to Rurzyca sources, crossing 2 lakes near "Diabli Skok' forest reserve. The flora of Rurzyca Valley comprises as many as 471 species of plants, around 100 of which are protected, rare and endangered. Returning to Trzebieszki, the real kayaking begins down the stream. The trail is easy. By dividing the route into two days, one may admire the beauty of nature and in free time, one may go fishing in one o f the 6 lakes. Night accommodation: *camping site at the former hostel - Wrzosy.

Cieszynki TrailThe source is located near Miel^cin village. In its central reaches, it flows through four picturesque postglacial channel lakes. The trail is short (6 km from Cztopy to the Drawienski National Park), easy, varied and charming, though arduous due to fallen trees. It takes one day. The subsequent days may be spent on kayaking along the Ptociczna and Drawa Rivers.

The Gwda River TrailThe river valley located among the hills o f a terminal moraine, outwash plains and lakeland hills creates an area of a protected landscape. The river is navigable all along its length (145 km), i.e. from Dr^zno to Pita. The central part, running through the Watcz Lake District, i.e. from L^dczyk to Pita, is picturesque and rich in the sightseeing values. The existing obstacles were built by a man, with water power stations, cardboard plant in Tarnowka, among others. Beside the beauty of the landscape, the river allows its tourists to get acquainted with the monuments of culture located in Jastrowie. A special attraction for the militaria lovers is the front position of the German defense line, which runs along the Gwda River. The whole route is covered within 8-9 days, while the Watcz Lake District in 3 days. The cyclic canoe events on the Gwda River include the National Winter Kayaking - III decade in March and the Gwda National Kayaking- I half o f July. Night accommodation: Hostel o f Polish Scouting Association in Dr^zno, Hostel o f Polish Scouting Association in Podgaje, camping grounds in Lubnica and L^dyczek, resort in Grudna.

Korytnica TrailThe left-bank tributary of the Drawa River, 43 km long, including c. 38 km o f a kayaking trail. The river depth amounts to 2 m, the w idth on the overflow area ranges from 8 to 30 meters. The sources are located in the Mirostawiec area. In its lower reaches, the Korytnica River flows through the Drawska Forest; these are areas of interesting nature: the rivers are inhabited by common goldeneyes, and otters. The kayaking trail starts in Stara Korytnica. Especially worth recommending is the 20-km distance between Nowa Studnica in the Tuczno Municipality and Jozwin. At the border of the Drawienski National Park, the river flows through the Studnickie and Korytnica lakes, where a campsite is located at the outlet o f the river to the lake.

THE DRAWSKO LAKE DISTRICT

The Drawsko Lake District is a virtual green land. The scenic, forested moraine hills hosting innumerable lakes interconnected by streams of fast flowing rivers.

The Drawsko lakes are a paradise for sailors and anglers, rivers - abound with fish - are attractive for kayaking trips. In the very center of the district lies the Drawno Landscape Park with numerous reserves. The lake district is ideally prepared for hosting tourists. Countless campsites, leisure centers, boarding houses and agrotourism farms, trails designated for walking and cycling expeditions, a horse riding route, kayak marinas and water equipment rentals - all encourages to come.

Drawsko Pomorskie - the oldest town of the district, situated by the Drawa River. Worth visiting due to beautiful old buildings and monuments, with the XV century Gothic Church with baroque

altar, Neo Roman Church of St Paul the Apostle from 1928, a fragment o f defensive walls and periodtenement houses from the turn of XIX and XX century.

Czaplinek - a town situated among Drawsko and Czaplino lakes, the tourist center of the middle part o f the district. Since 1407 till the middle of XVII c., together with the Drahim castle, the town was the farthest north located stronghold o f Poland. Once in town, it is worth seeing the Church from the turn of the XIV/XV c. with interior hiding a beautiful baroque, baldachin altar and a classical pulpit, a Neo-Roman church with interesting polychrome and a wooden belfry w ith a bell from 1730, as well as the XIX c. old town complex o f a unique climate.

Ruins of the Drahim Castle in Stare Drawsko- the remnants o f the fortified castle, erected in the XIV c. by the Knights o f the Order of St John of Jerusalem. The castle is located in a narrow pass between Drawsko and Zerdno lakes at a place of a destroyed early medieval Slavic fortified settlement. The castle yard currently houses a few buildings im itating the former buildings. The castle was granted the museum status. It exhibits weapon, armor, and instruments o f torture. Staging o f knight's duel is also held.

Stawogrod - a contemporary reconstruction of the medieval stronghold. Knight's battles as well as an exhibition o f the former craft are held. One may book night's accommodation in historical cottages. It is also recommended to play a field game - the 'Treasure hunters'. The settlement is located in the northern part of the town at the fork of 163 and 171 roads.

Szczecinek, the biggest town o f the Drawsko Lake District, located between Trzesiecko and Wielimie Lakes. Following the fall o f the West Pomeranian Dutchy in 1637, it fell under the rule of Brandenburg, then Prussia. Within the interwar period, a notable resort. The most precious monuments are, among others, the Pomeranian Dukes'Castle form XIV c, a Gothic tower - currently the Regional Museum (since 1914), an eclectic town hall o f 1852, a neo Gothic church and reinforced shelters at the western and northern outskirts - a fragment of fortifications of the Pomeranian Embankments. Today, Szczecinek is well-known for one o f the longest in Europe water ski lifts. Enjoying

water skiing or wakeboarding - a summer alternative to the winter snowboard is a perfect way of active leisure, The 300-metres straight, slalom and ski jum p allow for holding national and international water skiing championship, while obstacles (kickers and sliders) pose a challenge to wakeboarders. In Szczecinek, an integrated system of bicycle rental has been established with the possibility of returning the bike at a different place. What is also popular are period boats functioning as water taxis, which constitute a perfect supplement of water tram running according to a schedule. On land, for those going on a walk in a park, interesting vehicles such as rickshaw are waiting. A ride on a rickshaw brings many pleasant memories: w ith a small fee one may admire numerous beauty spots of the historic municipal park or the Szczecinek boardwalk. Szczecinek is also the Polish capital o f angling (www. naryby.szczecinek.pl) where expeditions are organized being always accompanied by a guard with enormous knowledge of angling.

CANOEING TRAILS OF THE DRAWSKO LAKE DISTRICT

The Cardinal Karol Wojtyla Drawa Canoeing Trail:Tributaries: Cztopica, Kokna, Korytnica, Mierz^cka Struga, Ptociczna, Pokr^tna, Stopica, Wqsowa. Towns: Czaplinek - Ztocieniec - Drawno - Drawsko Pomorskie.One o f the most charming and well-known kayaking trails in Poland. It starts at the Drawsko Lake (or the Zerdno Lake) and runs 194 km towards the Notec River. The Drawa River enchants with its changeability and runs through various landscapes. Once it flows lazily through fields and some other time it rushes like a mountain stream through vast woods o f the Drawsko forest, at some other places, it flows through lakes, passes by towns and water power stations, mills, military training area and a national park. One may find there everything and anything that bewitches in kayaking: elements of battle w ith fallen trees and clean lakes encouraging bathing; kingfishers flying over the kayak and churned up waves o f the Drawsko Lake. At the area o f Czaplinek Municipality, the trail runs from Czaplinek and Stare Drawsko, through the Bielawa Island, Rzepowo, mill in Gt^boczek to the Krosino Lake, where it leaves the territory o f the Czaplinek land. It is recommended to devote one or two days for crossing the trail, one may sleep at Rzepowo and finish in Ztocieniec. The distance is easy, devoid of more difficult obstacles and possible to be crossed even by families with children.

The Dobrzyca River - the source can be found in Machliny (Czaplinek Region). The river is rarely visited by canoeists, therefore one may easily encounter beavers, roe deer and other wild animals. In the upper reaches of the river there appear beaver lodges, and at low water level - there are numerous shallows. On the way, there are 8 kayak hostels. The trail is developed and marked; still the water is not regulated and quite difficult. The kayaking lasts 3-4 days and ends in the Pitawa River upon 60 km.

P^tla Szczecinecka [the Szczecinek Loop] - an untypical kayak trail, which starts and finishes at Trzesiecko Lake in Szczecinek. A shorter and easier trail version starts and finishes in a village called Gwda Wielka by the first bridge on the Gwda River. The kayaking trip runs through the rivers o f Niezdobna, Gwda and Dotga connecting Trzesiecko, Wielimie, Dotgie, Mtynskie, D^bno, tqkie, Studnica, Wierzchowo and Smol^sko lakes. At its multiple fragments, the trail requires huge expedition and effort, which it compensates with beautiful landscapes o f the 'Szczecinek Lakes' Protected Landscape Area. One needs 3-5 days to cover the loop.

The Gwda River - The right tributary o f the Notec River with the distance of 145 km. The Gwda River sources are located between Biaty Bor and Bobolice, within the area o f Porost village.In its upper course, it runs through crystal water lake, then it flows in a deep valley, meandering through beautiful old forest called Puszcza nad Gwdq [Forest by the Gwda River]. The landscape of the middle and lower courses has in places been changed by the human activity. A number of water power stations were established. The trail does not pose bigger problems, therefore it might be recommended to canoe beginners. It would be best to start the trail in Dr^zno at the area of a hostel by the Studnica Lake. It can be reached easily; on the lake shore there are piers facilitating launching, and one may set up a camp at the camping place. Another convenient place for starting the kayaking is the Orawka settlement or a natural beach in Stare Wierzchowo village.The kayaking lasts 7-10 days, depending on the advancement level o f the participants.

The Pitawa River - The biggest tributary of the Gwda River with the length of 80 km. It has its source in the Komorze Lake located in the Borne Sulinowo Municipality. One may start kayaking in Sikory. In the upper course, it runs through numerous but charming lakes, then it flows to a big lake in Pita. This trail is easier than the Drawa one, but equally picturesque and a bit less crowded. Another attraction is the stretching along the shore fortification belt of the Pomeranian Embankment. It is often recommended as the one where it is worth starting a kayaking adventure with family and small children. The Pitawa River runs through the Drawsko Lake District (37.3 km) and the Watcz Lake District.

THE HORSE TRACK OF DRAWSKO LAKE DISTRICT

The horse track of the Drawskie Lakeland begins in the tobuza- Swietoborzec district and ends in Biaty Bor. It is 189,4 kilometres long and marked with an orange circle of 60 mm. It leads from the West to the East through a diversi ed post glacial area of the Drawskie Lakeland with many front moraine hills, rivers' valleys, streams and lakes. It also runs across the Northern part o f the Drawski Landscape Park. It leads by extensive and picturesque fields, meadows, wastelands and large forests. It is connected with other horse riding track. There are 25 lakes in the area and the track itself crosses 7 rivers- Stara Rega, Wogra, Bliska Struga, Debnica, Pitawa, Ptytnica, Gwda i Dotga.

THE PARS^TA AND REGA BASINThe Parsfta Basin extends from Kotobrzeg on the Baltic coast to Szczecinek surrounded with lakes. It is a picturesque area ideal for tourists who wish to rest in the nature from city din.

The basin is also attractive for hiking, cycling and horse ridding. Tourist trails help visiting historical churches, beautiful manor houses and palaces frequently surrounded by parks. Attractions on those routes include oaks and beech trees, some o f them several hundred years old. According to the legend, Bolestaw Krzywousty, a Polish king, and St. Otton from Bamberg rested in their shadows. On the routes situated are large erratic rocks, including the largest one on the Polish Lowland in Tychowo.

Karlino - a Municipality bursting with energy located at a small distance from the Baltic Coast, to the south o f Koszalin where the Radwia and Pars^ta Rivers fork. The December events o f 1980 went down into its history. In the Krzywoptoty village near Karlino the oil eruption occurred, which caught fire as a result of short circuits of a power grid. The element was brought under control in January 1981. At that place the first oil mine was formed. Today, the Municpality hosts a kayak marina with places designated for caravanning, a camping ground, a playground, a guarded bathing resort, a skatepark, a mini go lf course, the Museum o f Karlino Land, and a scenic view tower of a church. The Municipality is traversed by numerous significant routes: the route along the former narrow-gauge rail, open churches, Pomeranian families, the salt route, and the routes of St. James and Otto o f Bamberg.

The Rega River Basin stretches from the Baltic Sea, covering the Gryfice, tobez, and Swidwin Districts and a part of the Drawsko, Goleniow, Kotobrzeg and Stargard Districts.

RymanSignificant part of the Municipality area is covered with woods being a rich source of the fruit o f forest and a precious hunting area. The area houses the valley of the Motstowa River and the hill that is highest in the region - Kobyla Gora. Near the town - Bogustaw oak tree can be found by the road leading to the Popiel Lake (Studnica). The Pendulate Oak is believed to be 600 years old.The Ryman o f today is associated with a beautiful classical palace.

Biaty BorThe town is located over the river Biaa, between the lakes obez and Bielsko. Biay Bor is an important international horse riding centre. Among the attractions are horse riding camps organized by the Stallions o f National Treasury in Biay Bor and horse riding centres in Miobd and Rzenica. Biay Bor is exceptional due to the coexistence of two cultures, Polish and Ukrainian. We recommend tourists to visit the beautiful Graeco-Catholic Orthodox church under the name of the Nativity of The Holy Mother of God, the concept o f which was elaborated by professor Jerzy Nowosielski.

Swidwin is a town located in the center of the Province. In its vicinity, the Kamienna Gate is located, which imparts unique color to the town. The biggest attraction is the modern Water Park 'Relax' which houses an artificial river, an over 100 meter slide outside the building, a recreation swimming pool, waterfalls w ith water massage and underwater massage points, as well as a sports swimming pool adjusted for national and international kayaking championships. The town is also known for the aviation garrison. The eastern part o f the town is the seat of NATO forces.

tobez used to be famous for wonderful examples of horses bred at Stado Ogierow [Herd of Stallions], which was located in the town district called Swi^toborzec. Stado came into existence in 1876 and apart from the breeding activity, hunting and running, riding championships, and horse and cart driving were organized. Near the town, Przyborze village is situated at the eastern bank of the Rega Valley. High and grass edge of the valley creates ideal conditions for learning, teaching and practicing hang-gliding.

The Canoeing Parseta TrailMountain-like, clean and cold water of Parseta attract kayakers from all over Europe enchanted with its beauty. Tree clad, high and steep banks of the river in its upper section make every kayaking trip unforgettable experience. The combination of interesting landscape and mountain-like nature is an attraction in itself for more experienced enthusiasts of the sport. Water of Parseta is an excellent environment of the salmon. The upper section is the land of trout and grayling. Official opening of the salmon season is on 1 January, whereas the Trout Season starts in the middle o f July. Every year, in the early August, starts the International Kayaking on Radwia and Parseta between Biatogorzyno and Kotobrzeg.

Radew - the longest tributary of the Parseta River. Of changeable course, it runs almost exclusively through forests. The upper course from the side o f the Kwiecko Lake is very arduous. The Radew sources can be found near Zydiowo village, south o f Drzewian. It flows through the Kwiecko Lake, from which it outflows as the Radew River. It begins its course in a narrow valley among forests, runs through 9 lakes, with the artificial Hajka and Rosnowskie lakes, among others. The River valley at the mouth area is much wider; old bends are visible. The Radew River ends its course in Karlino.

The Canoeing Rega TrailRega is the perfect o er for all those, who would like to rest on a sea beach after the rally. The rally route is quite easy for beginners and for those who do not like to get too tired. Despite its recreational character, Rega is very diversi ed. Almost the whole rally route runs through forests and occasionally through clear lakes. In some places the river is so swift that it is hardly necessary to paddle, so our muscles can rest. The rally can be ended at whatever place selected, but we suggest canoeing to Mrzeyno, which is a famous seaside resort with a clean beach and a relaxing microclimate. The Rega route takes 7 to 9 days to travel.

Motstowa - is a 48.9 km left tributary o f the Rega River. It has its source in the meadows lying south from Rusinowo village around 70 m above the sea level. It flows through Wysoczyzna tobeska, Popielewska Forest. At Rzesznikowo it enters the Gryfice Plain. It flows into the Rega River below Bielikowo village 7 m above the sea level. The kayaking route is 45 km long and starts by the road running from Resko to Swidwin, near Rusinow. Technically easy, sometimes arduous due to the large number o f fallen trees in its channel. Navigable during the spring season, in summer - after heavy rainfalls. At low water level, one may embark on a kayaking trip at the bridge of the road no. 6 (Gdansk - Szczecin).

A BICYCLE ROUTEThe „Green Odra river" bicycle routeThe bicycle route of 154.5 km length, running along the Odra riverside in the Szumitowo - Szczecin section through one of the most treasured and the most enchanting natural sites on the Poland's national scale. The „Green Odra river” bicycle route is a paradise for cyclists, nature lovers, enthusiasts for history and sightseeing, as well as a magical place for those being in love. The route exhibits interesting places for observing wild birds having their habitats in the area of the Lower Odra river and the Mouth of the Warta river. Landscape parks, nature reserves and natural features of historic importance [natural monuments], numerous buildings and structures o f the cultural legacy, parks of historical value that once belonged to court estates, with valuable tree stands, many viewing spots with panorama of the surroundings, and also the famous Valley of Love in Zaton are acting as a magnet for pearsons searching for silence, quietness and contact with nature.

The medicinal and healing properties - the microclimate of Swinoujscie and Kotobrzeg make us feel better and more healthy. Sunbaths and sea-baths, inhalations with sea-spray and a rich rehabilitation treatment base, as well as professional service staff shall add energy to further tours and walks. Numerous attractions, cultural events and festivities organized by seaside municipalities are waiting for tourists.

Cycling routes in the Land of the Parseta River TributaryThe bicycle route along the former narrow-gauge rail was created by developing the unused area of a narrow-gauge rail, where 57 km o f asphalt bicycle trails were established at the area of: Goscino, Karlion, Ryman and Siemysl Municipalities. The route traverses areas of interesting nature and attractive for tourists.
