So here I am, understanding Performance Artas a person under a chair.

Introduction

The following is a description of the experience inside the box, which was not a box, but a

washing machine. The invitation of Doctor Faustroll was a marvellous opportunity to navigate a

bed for the first time by dry land. Also, after all these great artists I met and of course thinking

about my family and my roots, I found imaginary solutions in objects and how performance is

related to God.

CharactersThe piece kept the original idea of using characters and

a bit of story-telling with Paulinas personae.

Edelmira is a social worker, one character created in

Mexico and who makes reports on houses and has

some waves on the volume on her speech. She was

perfect to make the intro wearing a pair of slightly

different- glasses than the ones she normally uses.

Paulina is the main character, she is the storyteller of

her own life. Quick speaker, gesture and performance

maker; a friendly Mexican and Pauliphysician who came

to study in London.

Doctor Faustroll is the genius, the engineer who made

the calculations to navigate a bed and find with Paulina

the explanations for performance. He also killed Bose

de Nage imaginarily after getting mad with Paulinas

directions.

Pere Ubu is the representation of a terrible dictator, but

also the first pataphysician, who in Ubu Cuckolded

(1944) presents himself as such.

Ma Ubu is also a cartoon; she is the not nice wife who

in Jarrys plays is also a bit mean and selfish. In this

piece she just tells Pere Ubu he is a dirty old man in a

funny attempt of French accent.

Also there is a reference to Bose de Nage made by

Paulina, but he does not appear embodied. According

to this piece, is the baboon who only sais ha, ha

during his interaction with Paulina directing and who

dies and then comes back to agree with the Cerdi-Cerdi

song explanations.

Exploits and Opinions of a Pauliphysician. A Non Scientific Performance

Description

A collaborative performance, a comedy based in absurd and identity. Is a onewoman show, combined with live music to create some real, unreal and funnysituations around Paulinas life.

The purpose is to interrogate the nature of performance itself also bringing aboutsources and redefining them, that is why Pataphysics is brought to a contemporaryscene. Also the fact of having live music gives an aesthetic element to the piece.

A performance written by Paulina Lara Franco, using lines from Alfred Jarrys1pieces.

Thematic

An approach to Pataphysics connecting this science of the particular with identityand autobiography.

Purposes and pertinence

Performing a monologue on stage, bringing live music and the use of objects as partof the piece; bringing theatre of the absurd as an aesthetic approach back to

contemporary practices.

Entertain the audience by the movement, gesture and funny clothing used in absurdways from time to time.

This project is important for the maker because she explores a way of devising withtext, identity and biography using some absurd elements and a collaborativeenvironment.

We would like to find alternative venues to showcase the work giving audiences anenjoyable evening.

Paulina Lara

Paulina studied in Universidad La Salle Cancn, where she received her BA inCommunication. Founder actress and assistant director in Algaraba Teatro Cancn,with Gina Saldaa as director. Voice-over in Mexican radio shows and audio-visual

productions with FBN Producciones and Bauhaus Boutique Creativa.

At the moment she is producer and anchor-woman in Rockeando en Espaolat Radio Bruneland social correspondent in Revista Horizontal, both of them digitalplatforms of Brunel University and La Salle Cancn, respectively. She is currentlystudying MA in Contemporary Performance Making, interested in writing andproducing her theatrical work.

Her work includes the creation (written, produced and performed) of Hansel andGretel Beyond the Forest, Youth, cool ideas and Exploits and Opinions of aPauliphysician; where she plays with text and devises the piece with the artists

performing.

As a performer she has done work with Hannah Millest (Nothing but smoke), YokoIshiguro (Accommodation and RIP) and Lorie Buckingham in A Taste full space.She has played main roles in plays like Do you smell gas?, Celestine, TheVirtuous Burglar, among others.

Pata-musians

The musicians are interested in creating new rhythms playing with the performance,making the audience follow the choices, the pace of the piece and giving a cabaretand burlesque touch. Elements creating a soundscape according to this absurdjourney.
