Building envelope - PrinciplesThe structure of the building envelope is divided into 3 levels:

Window joint with SIGA-Fentrim

Window joint 3-level model The principles of a tight building envelope, i. e. clear separation of the 3 levels, must be transferred to windows, French doors and front doors.

Function level 1 (airtightness)The complete window joint must be executed airtight on the inside. This level prevents moisture from entering the seam area with the indoor air (function area 2 ) and condensing there. In addition uncontrolled heat loss is prevented.

Function area 2 (thermal/sound insulation)In this window joint area the loads must be carried. At the same time thermal and sound insulation must be ensured. This area must remain dry, i. e. separated from moist warm indoor air and rain/wind.

Function level 3 (driving rain / wind tightness)On the outside the window joint must be made (driving) rain and windtight. This level prevents (driving) rain from entering the seam area (function area 2 ). Draught is avoided. In addition, moisture in the seam area is reliably discharged to the outside via appropriate diffusible materials.

Diffusion gradient:In respect of steam diffusion levels 1 and 3 must be executed according to the principle «less permeable on the inside than on the outside» .

Important:Leaks in the area of the window joint cause high energy losses, unpleasant draught and may result in severe building damage due to mould. Therefore the window joint must be airtight, (driving) rain-proof and windtight all around the window.

It is important to look out for first-class quality when selecting the products! Low-grade adhesive products often contain solvents and resins. As a result they can lose their adhesive power after a short time and cause emissions which are harmful to health.

SIGA-Fentrim is free from toxins and non-polluting. The high-performance adhesive tape is extremely adhesive for decades. SIGA-Fentrim is easy to apply and guarantees a permanently airtight, (driving) rain-proof and windtight window joint.

Tips and tricks

• Clean all substrates to ensure high adhesive strength

• Press the tape firmly on with a roller to ensure even more protection

• First fold the front end of the non-punched backing strip back so that it is ready at hand and can be easily removed later

• Then install the window

• Fill joint seam with insulation material without cavities

• Always start bonding at the bottom! Offers even more security against water penetration

• Apply Fentrim free from stress and tension

• Projecting by joint width + approx. 5 cm on both sides

Warranty for SIGA-Fentrim

However, SIGA excludes any liability for processing or use that does not comply with the instructions, or:

• unusual influences on the product, in particular of chemical or mechanical nature

• if permanent mechanical strain (e.g. due to tensile and compression forces) has an impact on the seal

• in case of airtight sealing in sauna and swimming pool applications

• in case of bonds against standing, non-pressing water according to DIN 18195/SIA 271

• when the prerequisites for reliable bonding are not fulfilled: The substrate must be dry, uninterrupted, even, capable to bear loads, free of dust and must not repel adhesives. Clean substrate before bonding and perform adhesion test on site. If necessary, strengthen with high-performance primer SIGA-Dockskin. Caution: The bonds must not be under standing water.

Prerequisite for safe plastering Before starting the plastering work make a plastering test on site. Follow the recommendations of the plaster manufacturer.
