John 8:47 says, "He who belongs to God hears what God says. The

reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

1.GOD SPEAKS IN DIFFERENT WAYS

Hebrews 1:1 says, "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways."

•Angels (Gen 16) •Visions (Gen 15) •Dreams (Gen 28:10-19) •Symbolic actions (Jer 18:1-10 •A Gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12) •Miraculous signs (Ex. 8:20-25)

4 important factors come into play here as we look at the Old Testament

First, when God spoke, it was usually unique to that individual.

Second, when God spoke, the person was sure God was speaking.

Third, when God spoke the person knew precisely what God said.

Fourth, when God spoke, that was the encounter with God.

2. GOD SPEAKS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

“An encounter with the Holy Spirit is an encounter with God.”

John 14:26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

3. God Reveals

• “God reveals His purposes so you will know what He plans to do.”• “Planning is a good thing to do if it is

motivated and guided by God.”• “God want’s us to follow Him daily,

not just follow a plan.”
