Expectations of EVERY UB
studentIt is part of your job as a tutor to
help hold the students accountable for their commitment to UB – you
should know what that means.
6 objectives of the UB grantO Academic Performance--Grade Point Average (GPA)
O 85% of participants served during the project year will have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better on a four-point scale at the end of the school year.
O Academic Performance on Standardized Test: O 77% of UB seniors served during the project year, will have achieved at the proficient
level on state assessments in reading/language arts and math. O Secondary School Retention and Graduation
O 96% of project participants served during the project year will continue in school for the next academic year, at the next grade level, or will have graduated from secondary school with a regular secondary school diploma.
O Secondary School Graduation (rigorous secondary school program of study) O 75% of all current and prior year UB participants, who at the time of entrance into the
project had and expected high school graduation date in the school year, will complete a rigorous secondary school program of study and graduate in that school year with a regular secondary school diploma.
O Postsecondary Enrollment O 74% of all current and prior UB participants, who at the time of entrance into the
project had an expected high school graduation date in the school year, will enroll in a program of postsecondary education by the fall term immediately following high school graduation or will have received notification, by the fall term immediately following high school, from an institution of higher education, of acceptance but deferred enrollment until the next academic semester (e.g. spring semester)
O Postsecondary Completion O 57% of participants who enrolled in a program of postsecondary education, by the fall
term immediately following high school graduation or by the next academic term (e.g., spring term) as a result of acceptance by deferred enrollment, will attain either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree within six years following graduation from high school.
Minimum 2.5 Grade point average
Test proficient in Math & Reading/LA on the 10th grade WKCE testPass to the next grade level or graduate with a regular diploma
Complete a rigorous HS curriculum (4 years of core, 2 years WL)
Senior cohort will enroll in college (2 or 4 year) the fall immediately after graduation, or file a deferment for a spring start date (Reserves).
Complete an Associates of Bachelor’s within 6 years of HS graduation
Ongoing expectationsO All students are
REQUIRED to:O Attend weekly tutoring
sessionsO Attend monthly 20
minute advising sessionsO Attend all scheduled
Saturday eventsO Complete monthly
Cyberbound postsO Maintain a certain
minimum GPAO 2.5 for 9th and 10th gradeO 2.75 for 11th and 12th
gradeO Communicate absences
in advance and for an approved reason
Excused absencesO School activities if an
official calendar has been submitted in advance.
O Family/Religious commitments with a minimum of 24 hours notice
O Illness
O WORK IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR MISSING UB EVENTS or TUTORING
Ongoing ExpectationsO All students are
REQUIRED, every year, to:O Take a practice ACT O Submit scores for any
standardized tests given as school
O All students are expected to attend:O The 6 week summer
sessionO The 3-4 college visits
per semesterO The optional events
offered each semester
Expectations for cohorts
O Sophomores – must take both the PLAN test and the WKCE test at their school
O Juniors – must take the ACT by June (end) of the junior year
O Seniors – must begin college applications by September 30, complete applications by January 1, complete the FAFSA by March 1, submit copies of ALL acceptance and rejection notices to the UB office.
Expectations of students during tutoring sessionsO All students should have a planner THEY
ARE USINGO It can be electronic (phone), but paper is
betterO We have planners available if a students
says they need oneO All students MUST complete a Study
Guide each weekO All students MUST participate in the small
group activityO All students are expected to show respect
for themselves, their peers, the staff, and the facilities
Expectations of tutors during tutoring sessionsO Check with each student to determine their
plan for night, assignments, and current grades
O Maintain an environment conducive to workO Continually check with students throughout
the night on their progress and need for helpO Assist students with homework completion or
refer to another tutor more capableO Check planners and Study Guides for
completionO Make comments on Student Guides
CYBERBOUNDO Beginning in November of 2012, UB
students began the Cyberbound Online classroom for monthly discussion threads.
O Students have monthly minimum expectations
O All staff have been given access to the class in order to:O Check student activityO Read student posts

Confidentiality Agreement
O You will be provided access to personal information about your small group studentsO Take this privilege seriously, and do
not share the information with anyone who doesn’t already have access
O This agreement carries over to when you are no longer working for the program

O EO #54 requires that all state employees, including those employed by the UW System, must report knowledge of child abuse or neglect that was observed or learned of in the course of employment.

O Bottom line: If the child or other children are in continued danger – REPORT IT.
What to do & not to doO DO seek the assistance of your
supervisorO DO NOT self investigate
O Take the information learned, or freely offered by the student and talk with a supervisor or Campus Police
O DO NOT offer advice to the student O DO NOT make promises to the studentO DO NOT talk with other staff members
about the situation
How to reportO Speak with your supervisor
O They will help you decide if this is situation for reporting, and go with you to report if you would like.
O If reporting is necessary Campus Police must be contacted
O You will be asked a series of questions about the situation and they will take over the investigation (if they feel a need).
What to expect afterward
O You CAN NOT lose your job or be disadvantaged for reporting an incident
O You will not be provided follow up information about the situation
O Your name will not be included in any report or be mentioned during the investigation
