A GLOBAL CAMPUS, A GLOBAL FAMILY

Family ValuesK-Staters consider themselves family, and that belief shines through contributions as diverse as our members. Researchers invent solutions to problems that could save a life halfway across the world, and students band together on a Saturday morning for community service. Thousands of Wildcat fans pack our stadiums shouting in unison, and our leadership guides us in ways befitting the obligations of a land-grant university.

In fact, these obligations could be considered our family values, and the many ways we achieve them are the Wildcat Way. We invite you to come along for the ride, because there’s always room for one more in the K-State family.

Nationally RecognizedWe take our reputation seriously. Kansas State University has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, or HLC, of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1916.

Why is accreditation important? Reputable, trusted accreditation validates the quality of an institution as a whole, offering evaluated measurements of everything, including academic offerings, governance, administration, mission, finances and resources.

K-State is a comprehensive, research, land-grant institution that was founded in 1863. Continuing education at Kansas State University originated through the Kansas Cooperative Extension Service, which was tasked with extending the university to the people. Out of our Extension roots, the Kansas Board of Regents established the K-State Division of Continuing Education in 1966, later renamed K-State Global Campus.

Different Format, Same DiplomaWhether you earn a degree online or on campus, you’ll receive the same diploma when you graduate, with no indication of how your courses were delivered. Signed by the university president and provost and stamped with the university seal, your diploma is more than just a piece of paper – it’s a symbol of your hard work and persistence.

Quality Courses and Experienced InstructorsOur online courses are taught by the same experienced instructors who teach our on-campus courses. That means your syllabus, assignments and projects will look very similar to those you would receive if you were taking a class on campus. With the help of a course quality coordinator on staff in our office, we’re continuously striving to improve our online courses to take advantage of new and better technologies and online teaching strategies that will improve your learning experience and increase your chances of success.

Timothy Cox’s StoryFor Timothy Cox, graduating with a 4.0 GPA is proof that determination and support from family and the university can bring academic success through even the most challenging situations.

Cox completed his academic advising master’s degree online through Kansas State University Global Campus — a program he pursued while working and living in a county hard hit by Hurricane Sandy in fall 2012.

After traveling out of state during the storm, Cox waited a week for a flight home, returning to floods, downed trees, damaged property and long lines for food and gasoline. Most of his town went without power for two weeks, making it difficult if not impossible to continue coursework under such extreme conditions.

“Honestly, K-State reaching out to students after Hurricane Sandy made me feel like I was officially part of the K-State family,” Cox said. “From emotional counseling to academic assistance, it was great to see that resources were available to all students. My professors were very understanding of the challenges we were facing and were willing to extend deadlines if needed.”

Cox also returned to his job in student services at Brookdale Community College in Old Bridge, New Jersey, supporting his own students through the storm’s aftermath while continuing to excel in his academic advising program. Helping students achieve their educational objectives while at Brookdale is what helped him find his passion for academic advising. Now in Germantown, Maryland, Cox continues to use his K-State Global Campus experience to create a ripple effect in helping others achieve their educational goals.

Cox originally decided to obtain his degree from K-State after a recommendation from his supervisor at Brookdale. “My supervisor told me that the program would be an excellent professional development opportunity as I pursue doctoral studies and future job opportunities. “

“It is always easy to give up when things get rough, but I came too far to lose sight of my goal. Even though I am hundreds of miles away from K-State, knowing that I am cared about makes a big difference.” Timothy Cox
