50th FACTS The West Vancouver Community Arts Council was established in 1968 when members of the West Vancouver Band Association, the West Vancouver Little Theatre Guild, the West Vancouver Sketch Club (now the North Shore Artists Guild) & the West Vancouver Visual Arts Group came together to from a registered not-for profit society that would advocate for local Arts & Culture groups & increase their profiles in the community.
From 1977—90 the WVCAC leased Klee Wyck from the District of West Vancouver, producing visual art classes & workshops, while providing affordable space for Member groups to hold meetings, rehearsals & workshops. We produced a number of notable events such as the 1977 Wood Sculpture of the Americas Symposium.
In 1991, the District made the Silk Purse available to the WVCAC as a base of operations. Continuing to provide space & resources to local Arts & Culture groups; we began to produce high quality programming including art exhibitions, concerts, storytelling, work-shops, theatre & more. All while enriching the community through awards, scholarships, co-producing festivals & creating exciting opportunities for the public to meaningfully engage with the Arts.
