Exhibition Weekly Newsletter - Week 4

Dear Parents, Mentors & Teachers,

InformationPlease book the date! PYP to MYP Transitions Information Meeting will beWednesday 20 May from 8:45 - 9:45 in the Conference Room -- just off of the Atrium. Mrs. Stanners, Mr. Watson, the school coordinators and MYP advisors will briefly present the MYP program and answer any questionsyou have about this transition for the students.

This Week & Next WeekNow we are half way through the Exhibition! The Using Stage has beenscheduled for two weeks. This is a long stretch of reading, writing, learningand summarizing. Students will need to continue researching, answeringquestions, and summarizing data into next week. Soon they will beginthinking about and planning how they will present their information in thebest way. It could be in graphs and charts, text, ICT presentations, photos,models, etc. In order to have a successful presentation, students need a

volume of information to present. The key to a successful end product willbe the work they put into the researching.

Supporting Your Child at HomeThe focus this coming week will be helping students summarize what new information they have learned to answer their inquiry questions. As wehave been reinforcing from the beginning, this project is about expandingknowledge, searching for new information and learning. We want thestudents to recognize the difference between explaining what they already

know and presenting newly learned, relevant information that answers thequestions.

At home this week, you might ask your children questions such as:

“What was the most surprising information you learned this week?”“What do you think the other kids in the class would be shocked toknow?”“Did you find any information that was the opposite of what youthought a couple of weeks ago?”

“What do you know now, that you didn’t know about ( issue) in March?”“How do you plan to answer this question?”

 job of supporting our groups, helping them withresources and chauffeuring them to field trips. Thestudents and I really appreciate the care you are givingus! Our only message to mentors this week is pleasecontinue the home stretch is approaching!
