Léa Mosconi
I make hypotèse, in this work, that doubt is the only posture
that can face the issues posed by the emergence of consider-
ations for ecology, and the collapse of modern values. Doubt-
ing on the invincibility of modernity, doubting on the dissociation
of nature and society, of human and nonhuman, of earth and sky.
I therefore erect a monument to this doubt. I designed a place
that enables the individuals to find themselves in vibration with
theyr environment, whether natural, human or urban. I chose
to work on a site close to both institutional and administra-
tive center of a big city and meadows of an evocation of nature.
The island seemed to be an interesting subject. Indeed, the island back
to utopia is a special place, central and isolated where the feelings are
amplified. The tips of the islands are particularly interesting since they are
subject more strongly to the river, the wind, the isolation. They are not0
places you go through but where you stay. I therefore chose to explore the
tip of the island Saint Louis, in Paris, at the location of the square Barye.
This monument of the doubt seeks to examine the question of sacred, its
meaning, its value and status in the environmental awareness context.
This peak belongs to the center of Paris bounding and look-
ing to the expansion of the city. The bridge of Austerlitz, over
seven hundred meters from the edge, reinforces isolation.
The challenge of this project is to work on feeling and perception in order
to achieve a place that puts man in an awareness of his environment, in
the broadest sense. To be more precise, a place which allows hybridiza-
tion of these environments : human, urban, natural, symbolic, social. It is
through this mechanism that this place evokes and celebrates the doubt.
The abstraction, rigor, insurance and monumentality of the stairs
and forecourt confront the unpredictability of natural elements.

We seek to develop feelings of tension and calm anxiety. Depend-
ing on the rising waters, the square becomes distorted, and de-
creases until it disappears, leaving only the stairs falling into the
water. This place is reassuring and suddenly becomes vulnerable.
The arrival at Shrine is a three sequences walk. We
cross the top square, the stairs, place of transition and
the bottom square for contemplation, silence phase.
Inside the staircase is the Shrine, the sacred place. The entrance reveals
three sequences, the crossing of the input, through the forest of poles, to get
in front of the staircase facing the wall of light, precisely drilled, reflecting.
If I sought to clarify this question of doubt over an architectural pro-
posal, it is also through a series of drawings and a video that I tried
to capture the doubt. When we invaded the complexity of future situ-
ations, vulnerability reminds us a past who thought itself invincible.
