Steers to £1265 Heifers to £1175

With lower numbers forward the recent rain looks to have not only reduce the pressure on farmers to sell but also helped to

keep the recent strong trade going. Store steers topped at a very decent £1265 for a pen of six smart British Blue’s (23m)

from E Doughty & Sons of Bodmin with a bunch of five of a similar age and off the same farm close at £1260 apiece.

Further quality British Blue bred steers (22m) from John Searle of Crediton drew £1205 with plenty of other Blue’s making

from £1130 to £1160 for various sellers. Charolais steers (21m) peeked at £1225 for Tom Elliott of Ashburton with other

Charolais (28m) to £1130 for David & Stella Drew of Lapford whilst Limousin bullocks (23m) saw £1190 for E Doughty

& Sons again and £1175 (28m) for a couple from David & Stella Drew once more. Best South Devon bred steers (25m)

came from Charlie Serpell of Sparkwell and made £1120 with a bunch of younger (14m) South Devon’s from JP Matthews

& Son of Torpoint fetching £1070 a life. Aberdeen Angus steers (23m) sold well and to £1110 for Russell & Alyson Retter

of Cotleigh with the better of a run of smart Blonde bred steers (22m) from Jeff Brewer of St Merryn easing to £1050. A

trio of well bred and covered British Blue heifers (22m) from John Searle topped that section at £1175 a piece with other

Blue bred females (25m) to £1110 for GN LV & JN Dunn of Okehampton. Aberdeen Angus heifers (26m) ran to £1140 for

Richard Brayley of Jacobstowe with later born (18m) Angus reaching £990 for Peter Hendy of Plymouth. A pair of cracking

Limousin heifers (22m) reached £1135 for GN LV & JN Dunn again, with others (28m) to £1085 for David & Stella Drew

and £1065 (21m) for Charlie Serpell. Richard Brayley sold a single Charolais heifer (26m) for £940 and a bunch of six neat

Blonde’s (22m) took home £875 a head for Jeff Brewer.

A smaller entry of 95 stirks and suckled calves met another strong trade. A show made of mainly dairy bred types topped at

£635 for Keith & Shirle Wotton up from Dittisham for shapely Simmental cross steers (5m), a run from CJ & CJ Pople of

Aylesbeare topped at £605 for Blue steers (9m) whilst Graham Heard across from Broadclyst close behind showing Angus

steers levelling out at £600 (10m). Thirtle Mills Farm Partnership of Callington presented Limousin cross steers (12m) which

achieved £575, with Blues off the same good farm and of similar age achieving £570, whilst further Blues from RG Rowe

of London Apprentice achieved £560. Heifers topped at £640 for Caroline Crabb of Ashburton showing Limousin crosses

whilst Thirtle Mills Farm Partnership achieved £490 for Blue heifers, whilst a run from RJ & A Dennis of Looe saw Blue

heifers (7m) realise £465 with others to £420 (6m). A small show of bulls saw the best from CJ & CJ Pople achieve £560

    being Blues (6m).
