INTRODUCTION

There is nothing as compelling as an idea whose time has come. The ANIOMA NATIONALITY has come to be as a result of the dialectics of socio-economic and political forces at play from the old Western region, Bendel state and the current Delta state. The consciousness of the people for cultural and political relevance became more pronounced in 1991 following the creation of Delta State.

The Nine local government areas that made up the “present ANIOMA”is pregnant with hidden treasures that can liken the investment opportunities to a visit in the untapped resources of the “GARDEN OF EDEN”.

As the agitation for ANIOMA creation continues to gather a remarkable momentum, the corporate world where I belong (oil and gas) see ANIOMA as a land flowing with milk and honey. Geographically , Anioma is bounded on the east by Anambra State, to the South east by Imo State and River state, to the South West by Bayelsa State, to the North west by Edo State and the North by Kogi State. Anioma encompasses a landmass of about 6, 300km3.

The human, mineral and material resources in the present Delta North Senatorial Zone called ANIOMA is enormous.

HUMAN RESOURCES:The man power profile of

Delta State Public service 1999 – 2004 conducted by the Delta State Manpower committee and published by the Delta State government confirms that ANIOMA alone contributes 43.19% of the entire Delta State workforce (Civil Servants), while Delta south has 22.4%, Delta central has 35%.

AGRICULTURAL AND NATURAL RESOURCES:ANIOMA, the present Delta North is well endowed with

agricultural and natural resources. Tomatoes was known to be well harvested in Idumogo in Aniocha North, which is often carted away at give away prices to commercial middle men across the Niger. The Oko community in Oshimili south is best known as the food basket of our time but because of lack of access road to bring out the farm produce such as yam, okro, casava, fresh fish, maize and plantain, profit making commercial traders and middle men from across the Niger capitalized on the perishable nature of the produce and purchase them at a give away price. Yam, cassava, plantain and maize harvested all through the year is associated with the Ika people, while abundant fish production at wanton measures were the mainstay of the Ndokwa and riverin people of Oshimili North and south. Its a common proverb in Delta North, that ANIOMA people do not suffer from hunger but usually die of overfeeding. In a world that is now a global village with common market,

These abundant excess of agricultural harvest should be processed, packaged and exported to earn foreign currency, stabilize our economy, create employment and ensure peace and security. Harnessing these resources would enable the nation escape from the ‘POVERTY TRAP’ in a new world order.

Other products like palm trees that produces the palm oil, local beverages of palm wine (OZU) if well harnessed will place ANIOMA on high economic pedestal. With solid minerals deposit, such as industrial clay, silica, kaoline, lignite, limestone etc are used for the production of bricks, ceramics, bottles, sanitary wares, chalk, glass and chemical insultor , ANIOMA should be the ‘Hub’ of great business opportunities. The cry of ANIOMA today is ‘EXPLORE ME, I AM READY’.

MINERAL RESOURCES:Today, oil and gas rule the affairs of

men at the national and international stage. ANIOMA is blessed with this ‘Black Gold’ at the belly of the earth untapped, neglected or partially exploited in an uncoordinated manner skewed by political caprices. Who decides when oil is found in commercial quantity is a political sermon to win converts that sees politics as the authoritative allocation of values, who gets what, when and how. With over 27 oil fields still at its embryonic stage all these years, its clear that political power and elites interest of hegemony inexorably determine ‘commercial’ quantity of an oil field.

These are the enormous resources if invested into will make ANIOMA one of the richest part of the world compared to the state of California in the United State of America.

W – Weakness: Identifying that we must wake up in unity of purpose and invest in these abundant untapped resources.
