SAUGUS—Laura Lee Daniel took the lead early in the WWPB competition over Me- morial Weekend and never looked back. The ladies began bowling Saturday morning with Laura Lee hovering near the top spot from game one. Grabbing the qualifying lead (and an additional $100 for be- ing high qualifier) after Saturday’s eight games, Laura Lee went into Sunday’s round robin match play with confi- dence. Sunday proved to be ex- citing with Andrea Snyder and Missy Bellinder making a run at the top spot - each coming within 10 pins of the lead on several occasions. But with each game, Laura Lee stood strong securing her third WWPB title in the final match play game. Laura Lee wanted to be sure to thank her sons - Larry, III (who will be off to college soon) and Bryan (who graduated from the California School for Deaf in Riverside last year); her hus- band, Larry, Jr.; Gip Lentine for drilling her equipment; Bob Reid of Ebonite for the bowling balls Daniel Takes Title #3 at Santa Clarita WWPB she used over the course of the weekend; Tom Cristi and Craig Goodman of Santa Clarita Lanes; Nicole and Dave for their hospi- tality; and the WWPB. “I had a great shot all weekend...and was able to stay with the same two balls, my Black Widow and my Total NV”, Laura Lee stated as we talked about her victory. Incidentally, Laura Lee bowled a 5-gamer Fri- day night at Santa Clarita Lanes with drastically different results. “I prefer bowling on the low end of the house”, she joked. Friday night proved, as al- ways, to be a blast for every- one! Tom Cristi and his staff put on a truly wonderful Pro- Am where every player went home with an awesome gift. This year’s theme was sports! We would like to thank Tom Cristi and Craig Goodman for their continued support of the WWPB. We’ll return to the lanes in August - be sure to check our webiste, www.wwpb.com for details. by Lori Yamasaki SAN BERNARDINO — We want to thank Arrowhead Lanes for hosting our Inland Empire NABI Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. We always feel at home there. We especially want to thank everyone who came out to bowl with us. We know you had many choices to bowl this past week- end, and we’re truly excited by the great response we had! Our newest champion is Hovsep Simonian. Hovesp has a quiet demeanor about him, but that is not the same with his “Zone”. Hovsep qualified for the semifinals in the first squad on Saturday. He came back Sunday to be high qualifier for our fi- nals, then went on to win. Hovesp gives all the credit for his win to the Lord, for he, being a praying man, was offering up his prayers to do his very best all during the tournament. Al- though Hovesp loves to bowl, his first love is the Lord, reading the Bible, and serving with Richy (his Ministry Leader) at the Armeinan Angelical Church. There, he works with the youth to set them on the right path to their future. Hovsep wants to thank ev- eryone in our club for all their warmth and encouragement. Hovesp bowls in a league at AMF Bahama Lanes in Pasa- dena. He won with his Zone, drilled by Ed Williamson at Bowling Square in Arcadia. We want to congratulate Brad Lecount on winning the Ebonite Ball Raffle, and special congratu- lations to Kelly Jones. Kelly burnt up the lanes in our last squad on Sunday by bowling an awesome “300” game. He won the Monarch Ring from USBC. Way to go, Kelly! FULLERTON — The TravelingTurtle is not active right now becausethe Vegas Travel League does not bowlin the summer. However, I will be us-ing it for the few columns I write thissummer to tell members interestingtidbits.

Since only Jay Haggerty and thiswriter attended the OCUSBC Sundayat AMF Carter Lanes, I will observesome news of interest to our absentleague bowlers.

President Bill Huntington and As-sociation Manager Cheryl Huntington, who attended our annual league awardsluncheon last April, were re-elected byacclamation.

Joy McGregor, Director and pub-licity chairman, will report other elec-tion results for Directors and Delegatesto annual USBC State and Nationalconventions, so I won’t repeat them. But I do want to compliment BerthaLamb, Awards Chairman, for her superjob in providing a yummy continentalbreakfast of fresh fruit, a variety ofyummy bakery goodies and beverageserved in Carter Lanes spacious confer-ence room.

Mike Schaffner reported $12,500BVL donation, which the Vegas leagueproudly notes that it has contributed100 per cent league donation every yearsince it’s formation.

Some interesting tourneys areslated for OC 500 and 600 Clubs inJune and July and both clubs eagerlyaccept new members. Check at theOCUSBC office for more info.

Entry applications are now avail-able for the October 38th annual Se-nior Cal State event at Rodeo Lanes inClovis and AMF Sierra Lanes in Fresno. Also, the 34th Annual Mixed FunDoubles, which requires at least onemember in the Cal State tourney, willbowl each Saturday after the last teamsquad at Rodeo Lanes. These entryforms are available at the OCUSBCoffice and most bowling centers.

Finally, a reminder that the 2007-2008 Vegas league meeting is sched-uled for Monday, 10:00 a.m. July 16at Cal Bowl. This season marks the50th consecutive year and keeps get-ting better and better. We can attributethat to the 64 members, most of whomcan boast having bowled in the leaguefor more than 30 years. At the presenttime, there’s no openings for teams orindividuals, but that can change beforethe proposed August starting date. Those interested in joining the league,as a member or sub, may call me at562-423-1567 or just come to the meet-ing in July.
