Hence the name, Excel. Francine started in a small, shared space inside a fitness studio. They now have 2600 square feet of open space with beautiful natural light and three private treatment rooms. Excel has grown to house six full time therapists and three part time therapists, as well a specialized group of support staff, including a Licensed Athletic Trainer, Pilates instructor and Licensed Massage Therapist. They have also added a South location inside Wright Training, which offers full time PT services. Excel has become so successful, because for the past 10 years, Maria and Francine have worked together to create a strong and progressive physical therapy practice by balancing each other’s strengths and weaknesses, respecting one another’s opinions and striving to reach their combined professional goals, as well as supporting each other’s individual goals. But most of all they have consistently valued quality patient care. Both Maria and Francine are proud of the clinic they created and agree that one of their favorite parts of Excel is the people they work with and the positive environment they work in. At Excel, patients have full hour-long appointments working one-on-one with a Licensed Therapist. In addition, Excel offers a clean, modern clinic with innovative equipment and a positive healing environment. Excel’s staff and therapists do more than physical rehab to help their patients go through the rehab process. In collaboration with Medicine Wheel Wellness, patients also have access to nutritional and emotional health, group fitness and rehab classes as well as cash pay physical therapy sessions for those without insurance. Looking forward to the next 10 years, Maria and Francine will continue to provide quality patient care to the community and they urge everyone to seek care and be proactive with their health as a method of illness and injury prevention. Traditional Steroid Injections: Corticosteroids How it works: Traditional steroid injections work by decreasing inflammation in the joint where it is injected. It helps by reducing the activity of the body’s normal immune system response which may be “stuck” in the pain cycle and is typically coupled with an anesthetic for pain relief. It is considered an anti-inflammatory injection technique. When it is recommended: When traditional NSAIDs don’t relieve pain. Steroid injections can also help your doctor diagnosis a tear in the tissues vs. a tendinopathy or bursitis. Possible side effects: Weakness in the area and/or muscles around the injection, soreness at the injection site and, as with any injections, possible infection.

PRP Injections (Platelet Rich Plasma): How it works: Platelets play a key role in the healing of tissues. When platelets are injected at an injury site, they release proteins which help to stimulate the natural healing cascade of the body which results in cell regeneration and tissue remodeling. tears in the hip or shoulders, meniscus injuries, tendinopathies, acute and chronic muscle strains, fibrosis of tissues, ligament sprains, bone injuries and joint capsule laxity. Your doctor can best determine if your injury would respond to this type of treatment. Possible side effects: Bleeding or bruising, increased pain and inflammation at the injection site, allergic reaction, and possible infection.

Ozone Therapy/Prolozone Therapy: How it works: Ozone has been shown to help promote oxygen utilization in the area it is injected. It can be coupled with procaine (a pain reliever) to help decrease pain in the area, repolarize the cells and improved this oxygen utilization. This is known as prolozone therapy or prolotherapy. It is considered a regenerative injection technique. When it is recommended: Prolotherapy is a technique that involves the injection of an irritant, usually a dextrose solution, for the treatment of chronic painful musculoskeletal conditions. It has also been shown effective for the treatment of degenerative osteoarthritis, or chronic joint instability. Your doctor can best determine if your injury would respond to this type of treatment. Possible side effects: Bleeding or bruising in the area, increased pain, joint swelling, nerve injury, puncture of a lung, stiffness, tendon/ligament injury, and possible infection.
