Air New Zealand has this week added capacity between Christ-church and several New Zealand regional ports in a bid to stimulate demand to the region. The carrier says it is more than dou-bling its capacity between New Plym-outh and Christchurch from this week, via 14 additional Bombardier Q300 services a week. The move equates to an increase of more than 67,000 seats on the route annually. In addition, NZ is increasing its capacity between Tauranga and Christchurch by a third, moving

from 18 to 24 direct Q300 services per week; and eight additional Q300 services will now operate a week between Hamilton and Christchurch, the equivalent of an 18% capacity increase.NZ says the introduction of new ATR-600 aircraft to its regional fleet has allowed the carrier to re-deploy existing capacity onto high demand domestic routes.“We’re constantly reviewing and adapting our domestic network in order to meet regional passenger de-mand and we’re pleased to be facili-tating the ongoing rebuild within the Canterbury region in this instance,” says NZ’s group general manager New Zealand and PI Cam Wallace.

New Airways DealAirways New Zealand has signed an agreement with GroupEAD Europe S.L. to set up a new aeronautical information company to be called GroupEAD Asia Pacific. The joint venture business will de-liver ‘next generation aeronautical in-formation management services and procedure design services to the Asia Pacific region’. The new business will be based in Wellington, and is expected to bring in initial revenues of around $4 billion through long-term contracts. The 23 staff cur-rently based at Airways head office will work for the new joint venture. Airways chief executive Ed Sims says the company is ‘delighted’ to team with GroupEAD, in keeping with the company’s long tradition of provid-ing services to ‘many parts of the world’. “As countries work through the transformation towards System Wide Information Management, we intend GroupEAD Asia Pacific to be ready and able to assist whenever required,” he says.
