EVM WARNINGS AND RESTRICTIONS

It is important to operate this EVM within the input voltage range of 15 V and the outputvoltage range of 10 V.

Exceeding the specified input range may cause unexpected operation and/or irreversibledamage to the EVM. If there are questions concerning the input range, please contact a TIfield representative prior to connecting the input power.

Applying loads outside of the specified output range may result in unintended operation and/orpossible permanent damage to the EVM. Please consult the EVM User’s Guide prior toconnecting any load to the EVM output. If there is uncertainty as to the load specification,please contact a TI field representative.

During normal operation, some circuit components may have case temperatures greater than52°C. The EVM is designed to operate properly with certain components above 52°C as longas the input and output ranges are maintained. These components include but are not limitedto linear regulators, switching transistors, pass transistors, and current sense resistors. Thesetypes of devices can be identified using the EVM schematic located in the EVM User’s Guide.When placing measurement probes near these devices during operation, please be awarethat these devices may be very warm to the touch.

Description

The EVM-1704 is an evaluation module for Burr-Brown’s sign-magnitude24-bit DAC, PCM1704.

The EVM-1704 is constructed using a CS8414 DAI receiver, DF1704oversampling digital filter, ISO150 analog/digital isolator, two PCM1704sper channel for a balanced connection, an OPA627 I/V amplifier, and anOPA2134 analog output amplifier with post LPF.

The digital input uses an S/PDIF digital audio interface, with a samplingrate up to fS = 96 kHz.

There are two types of analog output, balanced direct output withoutpost-LPF and single-ended, post-LPF-output.

Power supply requirements are 5 V for digital, ±5 V for the DAC, and ±12 Vto ±15 V for analog.

1.3 Switch and Jumper Settings

The EVM-1704 is designed as a D/A conveter unit that can be used withoutany external control. The board has the following user controls installed:

SWD1 – Pushbutton switch. Press to reset the board.

SWD2 – Digital filter rolloff selection switch SLOW: slow rolloff FAST: fast rolloff
