LETTER FROM PRESIDENT

This year is moving quickly so get out and enjoy the neighborhood before the weather turns colder!

If you haven’t heard, we have several new board members and a lot of exciting changes that are about to take place. Our annual HOA meeting took place in May and was a record turnout!

Neighbors came forth with lots of good ideas and many volunteered for committee positions. A big thank you to everyone for stepping up to volunteer in our time of need! As a result of this meeting, you will soon see some fun things to do in the neighborhood on our new Calendar of Events! The Entertainment Committee is also planning the Fall Festival and this date will be available soon. They are also planning some Food Truck Thursdays, so look for signs in the park for these fun events. A new interactive website is in the works and possibly a Facebook page where you can post items and find out facts. We are hoping the web site will have a secure log in capability so residents can view meeting minutes, find out information and view upcoming events. We have formed a Finance Committee to oversee the HOA accounts and CD’s. As President, I promise to keep all Huntington Park residents informed and up to date on all activities, not only in regard to the board, but also in the neighborhood.

Feel free to call or email me at any time, I will be happy to hear your thoughts. Last, I would like to thank everyone on the current homeowner association board for volunteering and moving forward with decisions that are always in the best interest of the neighborhood.

PURPOSE OF HPHA COVENANTS

Huntington Park Homeowners Association (HPHA) Covenants addresses changes to the outside of a home and property it is located upon. Covenants cover - any changes or additions to home exterior (paint color, required roofing material, landscaping and maintenance, fence installation, play sets, decks and patios and proper trash can storage) to mention just a few. Covenants are necessary so our neighborhood maintains the quality look and feel that caused us to live in Huntington Park. Continuing to enforce our Covenants allows resale values of our homes to be maintained at the highest level possible.

Covenants for HPHA require that all trash and garbage containers be kept inside the garage or behind a proper fence or effective landscaping in the side yard, so as to be out of site from the street. Containers and bags are not to be left outside in the drive except for trash pickup day.

Contact HPHA Covenants and Obtain Approval Before Making Changes or Improvements to Exterior Home or Property To expedite projects or prevent your improvements from being temporarily halted due to lack of Covenant approval or a Covenant violation, please contact the Director of Covenants through the website prior to proceeding with any exterior changes. Depending on the project, it usually takes only a few days for most approvals to be issued.

HOMEOWNER DIRECTORIES On occasion, the HPHA Board fields a request from a homeowner regarding a HP Homeowners Directory, so they can know their neighbors. There have been requests from homeowners and other organizations for a directory to use as a business tool.

The Board decided many years ago that a directory of owners would not be published in the future. Several valid reasons follow: Security of the home and family is very important and many homeowners have told the board they do not want any information published about them. Many

individuals have eliminated landline phones and do not expect unwanted calls to their mobile phone. Homes go up for sale often and a directory would be out of date in a few weeks or months.

Be Advised: No personal information will ever be given to anyone with regard to dues collection information and no names will be given to any homeowner if a concern regarding another property is reported to the Board or the Director of Covenants.

Homeowners who wish to find out about their neighbors should make a point to visit personally with homeowners in their area. The HPHA Board has suggested this friendly activity between neighbors for many years during homeowner meetings and in past newsletters. A personal visit with neighbors goes a long way toward building a more friendly and secure neighborhood.

TIDBITS! OPPD charges by the streetlight pole, even if the light is out. If a streetlight is out, flashing or dim, take note and call OPPD at 1-800- 554-6773. Give an address or good directions to the pole location and the problem you observed. OPPD makes repairs in the daytime only so they need effective information to find the pole and make the repairs. Now that Huntington Park is in the city, the Mayor of Omaha wants to know about any of your concerns, comments, questions or complaints. So please contact the Mayor’s Hotline at [email protected] or call 402-444-5555.

Every year or every other year the HPHA Board has an official Audit completed regarding all aspects of finances and the operations by the board. The recent Audit found no problems involving investments or Board of Directors operations or functions. The HPHA Board does not conduct any HP business on the Neighborhood App, does not post on the Neighborhood App and does not respond to any post on the Neighborhood App. If you wish to know the truth about activities in HP and regarding the status of the HPHA Board of Directors, go to the HPHA website and make contact with the Directors noted as Available. Then click the name and write an email.

With two months off of school and gorgeous warm weather, the possibilities for fun in Omaha are endless. There’s no better way to spend a day than investigating the town with your family. Fortunately, the Omaha area is ripe with fun, kid-friendly attractions worth exploring! We rounded up some of our favorite kid-friendly summer activities in the area. From refreshing water parks to wildlife safaris, these are some of our favorite kid-approved ways to spend your summer days.

Embark on a Wildlife Safari at the Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park Experience Nebraska’s wild side at Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari. This unique park is located just 30 minutes outside of Omaha and houses more than 350 animals and 53 species from all over the world.

Spend a Day at the Zoo Our local zoo, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, is consistently ranked as one of the best in America. And you’ll get to see why when you step inside and have the chance to explore their innovative exhibits. There are endless opportunities for fun at the zoo, for both kids and adults!

Explore the Trains at the Durham Museum The Durham Museum is housed in Omaha’s former Union Station, but now serves as a popular event venue and historical treasure! The stunning architecture has been preserved and harkens back to days gone by. Plus, the museum has ties with the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, the National Archives and the Field Museum in Chicago, so you can dig even further into history than you ever thought possible!

Visit a Local Festival Some of Omaha’s best festivals happen during the summer and many of them are kid-friendly! Your children will especially love Shakespeare on the Green, where they can dress up and enjoy tasty food to their heart’s content. Then follow it up with SeptemberFest, a festival full of live music, exhilarating rides

and a spectacular parade, to send summer off with a bang.

Head to a Local Spray Ground If you’re looking for a free, summertime activity that the kids will love, take them to a local spray ground! Local parks with fun water features include Benson Park, Fontenelle Park, Kountze Park, Seymour Smith Park, the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge Plaza and more, but you can also find splash pads and spray grounds at the Omaha Children’s Museum, the Joslyn Art Museum, the Shadow Lake Towne Center and the First National Bank Tower.

Head out to Mahoney State Park Kids can do it all in this fabulous state park! Hiking, trail riding, swimming in the wave pool, water slides, rock climbing, fishing and more! Located just a few miles south of Omaha, spend the day or spend the weekend! Camping outdoors, in one of the cabins or hanging out in the lodge makes it easy to enjoy

outside activities with the family!

In any event, whatever you and the kids do this summer, enjoy Omaha and watch for our very own special events taking place in Huntington Park!

between 156th & 162nd until at least mid-September of this year. The work on the 156th Street portion is expected to continue for 18 to 24 months from its inception in May 2019 or between the fall of 2020 and May of 2021.

TRAFFIC SAFETYWith street construction closing Burdette St., more drivers are using Corby and Miami and 160th Streets to get to their home. All drivers need to follow the speed limit and watch for children and other potential traffic problems. Remind all the drivers in your family to be alert, cautious and to drive defensively.

Some of this traffic congestion will continue after construction is finished. When completed, there will be center Islands built on 156 St. restricting turns into and out of Burdette St. and center Islands built on Blondo St. restricting turns into and out of Patrick Avenue.

Both of the intersections, 156th St. at Burdette & Blondo St. at Patrick Ave., are within the City’s guidelines for median breaks adjacent to a major intersection such as 156th and Blondo so both locations will have medians constructed and the traffic movements will be limited to right in and right out only for Burdette and for Patrick Avenue. 160 St. and Blondo will remain turns in and out both ways onto Blondo St.
